Elephant Books February 2021 Review

We received this note at the top of our box with some tips for reading with your child.

Elephant Books also included these bookplate stickers so your child can personalize their new books before adding them to your home library.

Something's Fishy by Jean Gourounas - Retail Value $16.95

This book has such a straightforward design and very simple illustrations, but it is still so visually appealing! It doesn't hurt that the pages are also a nice, thick, almost grained paper that feels unlike any other book we own. The storyline is just as simple, but it has a lot of humor to it. A penguin is fishing and all of the other arctic creatures are very curious about what she is doing and whether the fish are biting. There are a few cute twists and turns that make it slightly unpredictable and add just the right amount of silliness. While it was a super simple story, they did include some large vocabulary words which were fun to introduce my kiddos to, like "flummoxed"! This book appealed to all of my kids and may have been one of their favorites that we've received lately.

Mootilda's Bad Mood by Corey Rosen Schwartz - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $14.89)

This book was really silly and included so much fun wordplay that my kids and I really enjoyed. We love a good pun and there were plenty of them throughout this book about Mootilda and her "bad moooooood". Poor Mootilda wakes up on the wrong side of the barn and from there, her day just seems to get worse. There is plenty of "cow-miserating" and several funny "cow-tastrophes" that all gave us a good giggle. This book was incredibly engaging with its bright, detailed illustrations and the rhyming text made situations she encountered funny and whimsical. This is one of those books that parents will enjoy reading as much as kids (as long as you have a cheesy sense of humor like us!).

Verdict: This was our first time receiving Elephant Books and we were incredibly happy with our shipment. As a lover of elephants, I was already sold by the name, but that adorable packaging and the cute bookplates really made for a great presentation! As for the books, I truly believe they were special and my children enjoyed them a lot. They actually really loved the more simple book, but I was a huge fan of all the silly wordplay in our Mootilda book. As for the value, our books have a total retail value of $34.94 and this box costs $25.99 ($20.99 + $5.00 shipping), and even with sale prices, we are coming out ahead at $31.84, so the value is there, too. The kids and I are excited to see what next month brings!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
