The Box By Fashionsta January 2021 Review

The Box By Fashionsta comes with a simple info card that provides a short description of each included product, along with its individual retail value. This month focuses on seven powerful REsolutions: Renew, Restore, Remove, Reflect, Reawaken, Refresh, Replenish.

Ayam Beauty Care Makeup Wipes, 25 wipes - Retail Value $12.00

I want to start by saying that my skin is extremely sensitive and dry (if you follow my reviews I'm sure it's like ok we get it you have dry skin), but with all of that said these wipes gave my skin a very bad reaction. I let my daughter do my makeup for fun and she really did a full look on me. I had just opened this box that day and decided to use these wipes to get the makeup off. Almost instantly my face was burning and super red. I could feel my skin getting really tight and the burning just got worse. I washed my face quickly and added extra of my nightly serums and moisturizers, but my face was still so red it hurt. A few days later and my skin is really flaky from it. I think my skin must have had a buildup or just a general irritation to these wipes because the site does say that these are safe for dry and sensitive skin. They are made with dead sea minerals and caviar to remove makeup without causing irritation and to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The wipes were thick with lots of moisture to them so they did a great job at removing the day of makeup. I am sure these would be great for someone that doesn't have sensitive skin, but for me, these just did not mesh well with my skin type.

The Dirty Lamb Ultra Night Serum, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $52.00

Give me all the serums! I honestly love trying new serums because my skin usually reacts really well to them, and when I saw that this was specifically a night serum I was all in! This is working wonders for me already, plus it smells amazing. I have been using about 3 drops every night and wake to my skin feeling hydrated. It leaves that little extra glow to my skin that I love as well. This is made with a high antioxidant blend of fatty acid oils and vitamin E to liven up your skin through the night. The scent is light and fresh with lavender, ylang-ylang, and orange.

Mineral Fusion Nail Polish, 0.33 fl oz. - Retail Value $8.99 (currently sold out)

I have not been taking the time to get a manicure or really take care of my nails at home, but I really need to get into the habit of painting my nails more often. Having a fresh color on my nails makes me feel so good and put together. This polish was really nice and easy to work with. It wasn't too thick so I was actually able to do two coats on each hand rather quickly. Plus they seemed to dry fast and super smooth which I appreciate since I was doing this quickly during my daughter's nap. The color is a bit more of a light pink than I like but it helped to brighten my mood every time I looked at my hands. The shimmer is subtle while still catching your eye in the right light. This is a great shade that I know I will keep and use for a while!

Cailyn Makeup Wow Duo Eyeliner - Listed Value $19.00

Eyeliner is my everything. I never go a day without eyeliner, even at the pool, and I honestly don't think my kids have even seen me without it on. So getting a duo eyeliner made me beyond excited! The one end is a pencil liner that has a really nice sharp tip that goes on so soft and smooth. It is that perfect thin black line without smudging. The other end is a liquid with that perfect sharp tip that will give you a smooth yet dramatic line. I did a cat-eye eyeliner every day for goodness maybe 10 years, it was my signature and I loved it but I stopped using liquid liner after my son was born. When I got this liner I knew I had to give a cat-eye look a try and boy I forgot how much I loved the look and shape it gives to my eyes! You can see that my lines are a bit shaky as I got used to using this new eyeliner and tried a cat-eye for the first time in about five years, but I thought this eyeliner was amazing. It is waterproof and hypoallergenic so it didn't smudge or irritate my eyes at all. This is a product that I will use every single day!

La Bloom Beauty Lash & Brow Serum - Retail Value $25.00

This serum smells incredible! It is made with Argan Oil, Castor Oil, and Lavender Essential Oils to restore, strengthen, and condition lashes and brows. Eyelashes and brows are sometimes ignored but they go through a lot with makeup and tweezing. This serum is meant to be used at night to help keep those forgotten spots looking great. I really appreciate that this is made with sensitive eyes in mind, and I found that this didn't irritate my eyes at all. They do mention that consistency is key with this product so if you want to see results you need to apply every night before bed. It does mention that you can apply during the day without any makeup on to give your brows or lashes a glow. While I love this product, my best friend just had a baby and is experiencing some pretty bad postpartum hair loss that has resulted in her eyelashes falling out as well. I offered to pass this product along to her and she said she is already seeing results, that fewer lashes are falling out and they are starting to look fuller again. I was really happy to have received this product to pass quickly onto her!

Evio Lip-spo Gloss - Retail Value $14.00

I am becoming very familiar now with the Evio brand and really do adore all of the lip glosses and pencils I have from them. This gloss is great because it goes on so smooth but it isn't sticky or too shiny. The color lasts and even fades into a really beautiful deep pink. It is also super hydrating, made with shea butter, elderberry extract, and cocoa seed butter to protect and hydrate dry damaged lips.

Pixi Beauty Mixed Metals Palette - Retail Value $24.00

This palette is filled with all of the colors that I love to use in the summer when I have a bit more of a glow to my skin. Each shade is so deep and beautiful and has me wishing for sunshine and warmer weather. Each shadow is really deep and rich in pigment which makes it easy to go lighter or build a darker shade with each color. Since I can build a darker look, I have been really enjoying playing with these metals even now. I did have a good bit of fallout on some of the lighter shades, but I didn't notice it with each shadow. Overall this palette is a winner and will take me from the darker shades of winter to the glow of summer.

Verdict: The Box By Fashionsta was all about discovery for me. I realized how badly I missed painting my nails and how much I love the way my eyes look with a cat-eye liner. The eyeliner allowed me to play around with my makeup looks while I tested some new metallics on my new palette. I also realized how sometimes all you need is a light gloss with that perfect mix of pink and red tones to make you feel really good for the day, plus it added some amazing hydration to my dry winter lips. I also discovered how makeup wipes really just might never work with my skin type. I also found that a night serum is just what my skin needed through the night to maintain a healthy glow. This box has a retail value of $154.99 which is incredible for a $24.99 box. January can always be sort of a funky month, but I thought that this month's box was the perfect mix of products to add a little spice to my every day. That is what is so great about beauty boxes, you honestly just never know what you might get, what you might love, or what you might need to pass onto a friend. As I always say, it is about discovery!

Snow

The winter time makes skin way more susceptible to irritation as well. I’ve had a heck of a time trying to get my skin to calm down with sub degree temperatures ❄️

I definitely feel your face pain, Taryn.

Winter dry skin = no fun!

Taryn, I’m wondering if you had a reaction to the added fragrance in those wipes? Looking at the ingredients list, that’s the only thing jumping out to me as potentially irritating.

That brow/lash serum looks really nice. My formerly full brows have started thinning over the past year (probably stress) and I’ve had both castor oil and almond oil recommended to me as a remedy. I’m really curious to try it now!

It has to be the fragrance for sure because I have tried other wipes that I don’t ever really love, but I’ve never had such a horrible reaction. My friend said the brow/lash serum are already helping her lashes so I think the castor and almond oil must work!

Sorry you had a reaction to the wipes and about your friend’s hair loss!

We got the Cailyn jumbo liquid eyeliner in one of the first Fashionsta boxes and it quickly became a favorite for me. I have crazy sensitive eyes and it never irritates them. It is also super budge proof and pretty easy to apply.

Thank you! I mean, that liner is seriously amazing! I am still loving it above everything else I have.

My box was missing the eyeliner, but I don’t really care enough about black eyeliner to write them about it. The polish I got was in a “gravel” gray shade which wasn’t as fun as the Brilliant shade would have been, but should be good for stamping.

I didn’t realize the Dirty Lamb serum had lavender in it, though! It was the main reason I bought the box – but I’m allergic to lavender. Even the brow/lash serum was way too irritating on my eyes because of the lavender in it, so I can only use it lightly on my brows. That’s my fault for not checking ingredients first. 🙁 I haven’t opened the serum, so I guess I can swap it.

That is such a bummer about both products having lavender. I know that can be a cause for irritation for a lot of people, especially with sensitive eyes. Hopefully next month will be a bit better for you!
