This is on my list, so I’ll try it out. I got matched with City of Saints “Citizen.” It looks like it might be good – the bag says notes of cocktail nuts, graham, and malted milk, so yummy!

However, it looks like their normal promo is 50% off the first bag just from google or going to the webpage, so this isn’t actually an exclusive deal – just the usual one.

So I got my first bag today, and first impressions are not great. The coffee was smooshed up into a paper thin plastic mailer that was shredded, so the bag came out beat up and potentially water damaged from the rain. Then the coffee bag tore when I was opening it. The coffee didn’t have that fresh/potent yummy coffee smell, despite the label giving a Feb 16 roast date. It makes me wonder if they meant 2/16/2020 because the scent is so light!

I brewed it up anyway and it’s underwhelming. There are hints of some good stuff – a slight creaminess and nuttiness at times, but it primarily just tastes like bitter water. I used a tad more coffee than I normally would in my French Press, yet it seems very, very weak.

I’ll probably need to take advantage of their guarantee on the first bag, as this wasn’t at all what I was expecting for leveling up my coffee quality.

And to finish out my saga, the Brazil Cerrado is amazing and a great cup of coffee. It’s a good thing they have great CS and the first bag guarantee or I would have cancelled fast. Since this batch actually is better than the store coffee I get, I’ll keep with it for another bag at least.

Jennifer

Their customer service is pretty good. First bag guarantee covers a new bag, and the CS person asked more questions on my preferences to match me with a more personalized selection. So my next bag will be Brazil Cerrado by Gimme! coffee.

I tried it brewed at twice strength, and it is now passable, though not very great. It seems very weak and too bitter. I need to write them since they have a first bag “guarantee.”

Since I got this, though, Facebook has been giving me ads for similar subscription coffees. Storyville coffee looks nice, as does Amora. And, if course, I can grab some really nice coffees through my Imperfect Foods sub, so I probably don’t even need something like this. I was just drawn to the promise of a grind specifically made for a French Press.

I’ve found that with a lot of their deals lately. The same deal can be found without their link, and sometimes a better deal can be found with a simple google search.

Also, is it just me or was Galentine’s offers really slim this year? Not that I really need more stuff but I look forward to the deals and this year was disappointing.
