Bespoke Post “Drift” Review

I am a terrible sleeper, it takes me forever to fall asleep plus I wake up throughout the night, and somehow having three kids has made it even worse because their sleepless nights never seem to coincide with mine. This box had some interesting items and a few that I was already familiar with but knew I would enjoy, so I decided to go for it.

Lumi Sleep+ Bulb by BLUblox – Retail Value $29.95

This red light was the most intriguing item in the box. Yes, I know that a red light bulb may have a certain connotation, but after reading about this product and relishing in the idea of how it might help me relax and unwind before bedtime, I knew I had to try it. There is a lot of science behind it, but the gist is that this light contains no flicker, EMF, or blue or green light which could be harmful to your health and may disrupt your sleep and circadian rhythms.

I really can’t attest to all of that, but what I can say is that this light is SO calming and it really does help me get to sleep faster! I have typically had it on in my bedside lamp for a half-hour or hour before bed (some people turn theirs on at sunset and don’t use other lights until morning!), but even that little bit is soothing and relaxing to me. I actually tried it in my sons’ room last night and both of them seemed to fall asleep quicker than usual. I definitely need to repeat that experiment, but I really do think there is something to it!

I don’t know about changing my downstairs lighting at night, it just seems a bit too dim to move around in, but I might consider testing it out one night! While the light is dim, it is still bright enough to read by.

Weighted Sleep Mask by Gravity – Retail Value $40.00 (found here for $33.49)

I actually have this exact mask already, but I knew that my husband wanted his own, so this felt like a safe bet in this box! This weighted mask has an adjustable velcro strap and it is filled with glass beads that are meant to hit different pressure points around your eyes to promote relaxation. The pressure does take a bit of getting used to, but I get a lot of sinus headaches and this feels great when I need to lay down and it blocks out the light very well. I don’t know why I haven’t tried this before, but I’m going to place the inner portion (which is removable so you can wash the cover easily) inside the freezer and try it for more of a cooling, depuffing effect! The outside material is soft micro plush fleece on one side and their imitation cashmere on the other for two different textures that you can reverse if you wanted to.

Magnesium Oil by Salt Lab, 100 ml – Retail Value $19.99

I already incorporate magnesium oil into my nightly routine (when I remember to), so I was eager to try a new brand. I love the simple aesthetic of this bottle and I was pleased that this did not sting when rubbed into my skin. I’m not sure how many people know this, but I learned a while ago (when I was looking more into things that could help me sleep!) that most people are deficient in magnesium, and the best way to get it is actually through a topical application since your skin is your largest organ, instead of through oral vitamins. This particular brand uses high-grade 100% natural magnesium chloride from the Dead Sea that is safe for almost anyone and can help soothe tired muscles, improve sleep, and even nourish your skin. It’s difficult to tell whether this works after such a short time, but I’m still happy to try a new brand!

Dream by the Good Patch, 4 Pack – Retail Value $12.00

This last item is the one that I was the most skeptical about, but at the same time, the most hopeful that it would work. It sounds kind of gimmicky, and after trying it twice, I don’t think it worked that well for me. This pack comes with four patches that contain natural ingredients like melatonin, hops, and valerian root which are supposed to help you get 8-12 hours of restful sleep (at least that’s how long the patch should stick to your skin). You stick this on the inside of your wrist before you go to bed and remove it when you wake. This patch is skin safe and latex-free, as well as paraben, sulfate, and synthetic fragrance-free.

The first night I tried it, I had the most horrible night of sleep, but it wasn’t necessarily the fault of this patch, but at the same time, it didn’t help ease whatever sleep issues I was experiencing. The second night I tried it, I didn’t notice a huge difference in my sleep, and the patch actually somehow slipped off of my wrist and ended up on my stomach, so maybe that wasn’t the best way to judge whether it worked either. The takeaway from both experiences was that the patch gets kind of sweaty and gunky with use and it slides around. It just doesn’t seem like a strong enough adhesive to be able to be worn on your wrist while sleeping and instead it should probably go on your foot under a sock or somewhere that it won’t get rubbed off easily.

Verdict: So did the Drift box from Bespoke Post deliver a blissful night of sleep? Not quite, but it definitely gave me the tools I need to get a good bedtime routine going so that I can work towards that restful night’s sleep. I was most impressed by the Lumi Sleep bulb and am happy to incorporate it into my nightly routine. As for the magnesium oil and the sleep mask, I knew those would both be great items that I would get use out of. The only real disappointment was the Dream patches, but that was a long shot anyway. I do have 2 more patches to try, so who knows, maybe the next one will stick and work some magic for me! As for the retail value of this box, the total comes to $101.94 which is pretty great for a $48.95 ($45 + $3.95 shipping) box!

  1. Red light is great because as already stated, all the led light bulbs emit blue light which disrupts our circadian rhythm and really is the only light we should be using after dusk. The red light is also great because it doesn’t disrupt our night vision. Which is to say, if you turn off the red light, you wont have to wait for your eyes to adjust to the dark.

  2. I would have scooped up this box! Wasn’t even option for me. Bummer.
I already use an app called twilight. It gets rid of the blue light on your phone. Having a lamp would be amazing!
Bespoke has a box called Hue, which only shows up if you use the search tab. It’s a Phillips hue bulb and hub. Talk about life changing! The basic hue bulb has every shade from pure blue white light to a red light. They make a colour bulb that has the whole rainbow.
If you have migraines the hue light is a life saver. The other setting, read, dimmed, nightlight, concentrate etc make life better for me.

  3. Brandi, as someone who’d had similar struggles with sleep, this was a very informative review. Thank you! I am most intrigued by the red lightbulb; while I knew about using night settings to reduce blue light emission from electronics, I didn’t know that regular bulbs can also emit blue light. Swapping out the bulb in my bedside lamp seems like a very simple solution.

I keep seeing weighted sleep masks and thinking I should try one. I bought a weighted blanket last Spring, and it’s been a life saver. I bought it hoping it would help with anxiety, and while I didn’t experience any dramatic improvement in that department, what did happen was the quality of my sleep drastically improved. I fall asleep quicker, I stay asleep better, and during the day I’m so much more well-rested. No more mid-afternoon crashes! I don’t know the science behind it; I personally theorize it’s because the weight keeps me pinned down and from moving around too much (I’ve always been a restless sleeper). Anyway, I’m a convert, and I highly recommend weighted blankets to anyone who struggles with sleep issues.

It’s too bad this box is currently sold out, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for it in the shop.

    • I am a sleep mask wearer but wasn’t a fan of the weighted ones at all – they move weird when you sleep on your side. I occasionally use it for savashana after yoga but that’s about it.

  4. This box wasn’t even an option for me to choose for February I’m not sure why.

  5. Thanks for the review – I was on the fence about getting this one and I think I would have liked it from your review. I needed a new sleep mask and this one sounds great.. Unfortunately, it’s sold out.

    • Oh no! I’m sorry, BG! 🙁 I think you can sign up to be notified if it comes back in stock. The boxes do rotate back in pretty often, so hopefully it will be available for you soon!

      • I did, thanks! I read your review and went on to buy – it was already in my cart along with the one with the stir fry pan (have you tried that one?) and they were both gone!!
