The Detox Box is a green beauty subscription box from The Detox Market that costs $55/month. You'll usually receive 2-3 products from a featured brand each month that follow their strict ingredient standards and help you discover non-toxic ways to continue your beauty routine. What I love about this subscription is that I can try popular and undiscovered brands alike at a really good value!

FYI - COVID-19 Update: You can read about how The Detox Market is addressing shipping delays and other adaptations during this time right here.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Detox Box December 2020 Review

The info cards provided give us some details on both items included this month, as well as some background on the Sahajan brand and creator: Lisa Mattam. Lisa created Sahajan to merge science, beauty, and Ayurvedic principles. I already know and love this brand because they make my number 1, very favorite, most loved EVER hair oil. Seriously, that stuff is incredible and so fragrant that people ask me what perfume I am wearing.

Sahajan Radiance Face Serum, 30 mL - Full Size! Retail Value $70.00

My first item is an amber glass bottle of serum. The first thing I noticed is that this serum is a light brown color and super creamy. It also has a great scent that feels warm, earthy, and a little nutty. In scanning the ingredient list, I am seeing ingredients that I love! Namely, cica (hello, lover), aloe, and hyaluronic acid. There is a bit of coconut oil in here which can be comedogenic, so if it has been a troublesome ingredient for you in the past, take note. My skin is super dry and my clogged pores are usually caused by my mask-wearing (and heavy breathing, apparently), so I just applied this everywhere other than my jawline, just to be safe! I loved how this serum felt on my face. It was one of those serums that feels like its own mini-moisturizing cream, but was still light and worked well with the follow-up moisturizer.

Sahajan Nourish Face Cream, 50 mL - Full Size! Retail Value $60.00

I actually reviewed this fairly recently from my September 2020 Laurel & Reed Box:

This cream is on the heavier side, but with cold weather on its way, this is a good thing for my dry face! Inside is a light brown cream with triphala (a power antioxidant!), gotu kala (AKA centella AKA cica!), and coconut oil. I am going to pause here for a second because depending on your skin, that coconut oil is either a good or bad thing. If you are oilier, this ingredient does sometimes clog pores, so proceed with caution. There are some serious benefits for coconut oil though, like its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties. I have dry skin with larger pores (lucky me) and coconut oil doesn't seem to bother me much, so I loved this cream, especially right before bed. I also loved the comforting, warm, and resinous scent of this cream.

My feelings on this cream are still essentially the same, save for the fact that I have noticed my skin isn't a big fan of some of the alcohols in here (Cetearyl Alcohol and Cetyl Alcohol). These are fatty alcohols that shouldn't be drying and though both have a minor irritancy rating, most people shouldn't be bothered by them. I noticed that when I use products with them I get redness and flakes around my nostrils and in my eyebrows. I am guessing this also might be linked to how dry, cold, and windy it is during this time of year as this wasn't a problem for me at all before it got cold. I will say that I didn't notice anything negative with this cream, even used it this week when it got down to below freezing a few times. I am glad because I love the scent and how luxurious it feels! Since I already have a jar of this open, I am going to stash this one for later.

Verdict: This month's Detox Box featured a brand I really love. I would love to see more and more of it in boxes! The whole experience with these products was great. Both felt creamy and hydrating, smelled amazing, and featured one of my favorite ingredients: cica. The value this month was nice too! For $55 I received $130 worth of Sahajan goodness. I will take that deal any day.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Great review! Your ingredient call-outs have caused me to purchase my own cosmetic/skincare ingredient dictionary and it has been an interesting read. Never thought I would actually read a dictionary for fun, but here we are 😂
