Relax & Radiate Crate Winter 2020 Review

Each box arrives with a Girlfriend mini-magazine produced exclusively for Relax & Radiate Crate subscribers. The Winter Crate magazine features recipes, podcasts, product features, and other cute articles.

Body Brush

I have been using dry brushes like this for many years now. I love dry brushing for the added health benefits and the great exfoliation it can give your skin! This brush is the perfect size to get smaller areas or hard to reach places. I used this on my feet and back to get that perfect scrub. The bristles are light and smooth but still course enough that it gets all of the dry skin off without harming your skin. I use mine every night before bed just because it is easier for me, but I know most people like to dry brush in the morning to wake them up before getting into the shower. Finish the process off with some coconut oil or moisturizer and your skin will be glowing in no time!

Cutting Board

I have been starting to update some of my kitchen gadgets now that so many of them are out of date. One thing that I never seem to purchase for myself are cutting boards, but I recently got rid of the really old ones that dated back to when I was still dating my husband. So I have been needing a new one that is a bit smaller in size. This board is great to use for smaller chopping like carrots or onions. You could use it to display an appetizer or even a smaller meat and cheese tray as well. The design is intricate, making it great to put on display in your kitchen. This is already becoming a kitchen item that I have been reaching for almost every night when prepping dinner.

Vanilla Amber Candle

I am really loving that the design on the cutting board is also on this candle holder and the tumbler that came this month. For me, that really shows attention to detail and the care that goes into the curation of each product. I am candle obsessed and usually have one burning most of the day and into the evening when we are home (which is all the time since I'm a stay at home Mommy). Since I burn candles so much, I go through them a lot so I really can never have too many on hand. This vanilla amber is the perfect winter scent in my opinion. It is sweet like something baking in the oven yet warm and earthy. The candle burns nicely and fills my entire downstairs quickly.

Wine Tumbler

I am a big wine drinker, even in the summer, so a tumbler is always exciting to see in a box. This tumbler is plastic so nothing super fancy. Casual isn't a bad thing though when you have two wild kiddos running around! This is going to be great to use when I am outside on my deck or patio when the weather turns. I will be able to enjoy a glass of wine outside without worrying about breaking it. My kids are also really into doing a 'cheers' with drinks so this is one that I won't get nervous 'cheers-ing' them with! Plus, it has that lovely design on it that has been consistent with other products this month.

The Dearly Beloved by Cara Wall - Retail Value $17.00

Boy, do I miss getting lost in a good book. I have always been a big reader, ever since I was a kid, but since becoming a Mom five years ago I sadly have let that love slip away. Maybe this will be the book that gets me back into a groove of reading?! I have only just started reading this book, but so far I am enjoying it. We are just being introduced to the characters, but I have read that this story will take us through two couples and their journey through love and life. I really do enjoy a good love story so I'm excited to get further into this one! Let me know in the comments if you've read this book and what you thought!

From Amazon:

Charles and Lily, James and Nan. They meet in Greenwich Village in 1963 when Charles and James are jointly hired to steward the historic Third Presbyterian Church through turbulent times. Their personal differences however, threaten to tear them apart.

Charles is destined to succeed his father as an esteemed professor of history at Harvard, until an unorthodox lecture about faith leads him to ministry. How then, can he fall in love with Lily—fiercely intellectual, elegantly stern—after she tells him with certainty that she will never believe in God? And yet, how can he not?

James, the youngest son in a hardscrabble Chicago family, spent much of his youth angry at his alcoholic father and avoiding his anxious mother. Nan grew up in Mississippi, the devout and beloved daughter of a minister and a debutante. James’s escape from his desperate circumstances leads him to Nan and, despite his skepticism of hope in all its forms, her gentle, constant faith changes the course of his life.

In The Dearly Beloved, Cara wall reminds us of “the power of the novel in its simplest, richest form: bearing intimate witness to human beings grappling with their faith and falling in love,” (Entertainment Weekly, A-) as we follow these two couples through decades of love and friendship, jealousy and understanding, forgiveness and commitment. Against the backdrop of turbulent changes facing the city and the church’s congregation, Wall offers a poignant meditation on faith and reason, marriage and children, and the ways we find meaning in our lives. The Dearly Beloved is a gorgeous, wise, and provocative novel that is destined to become a classic.

Slipper Socks

It is super cold where I live and we are still staying home which means shoes are a thing of the past for me these days. I am constantly looking for cozy socks or slippers that are also cute. These socks check all of the boxes for me! They are seriously so soft and warm. They make my feet so cozy and they look really great with leggings! I'm also going to try wearing them with my snow boots outside the next big snowfall we get to see if they work well with shoes to keep me warm.

Paint-By-Number Kit

I do a lot of painting crafts these days with my kids. I can always feel their calm and focus when we start painting and I love seeing their little minds create. This painting kit is so unique because it isn't a standard canvas but instead is a hanging fabric. I could see this making a wonderful gift or something to hang in a bedroom. I recently started on this kit and my son was very interested in the project so we are going to work on this together! I am so excited to make our way through the instructions and get this tapestry completed!

Kitchen Towel Set

Here we see the beautiful design again that is consistent throughout this month's box! I can never have too many towels so I'm always excited to receive a set. These both are really large, great for cleaning spills or using to dry pots and pans. Since these are so beautiful, I might even use them in my downstairs powder room. They aren't super thick, but they absorb water and other messes really well. Plus, the colors are really bold and add a little touch of brightness wherever I use them.

Poncho

I am obsessed with this poncho! The color is so vibrant and the fabric is soft and smooth. It is a medium weight so I could see myself wearing it now in the winter for a cozy look, in the spring over a dress, or in the summer to the pool. I have it on with the solid burnt orange side, but you can flip the poncho to a lighter orange with the beautiful vine design that we've seen throughout this box. What a fun, effortless yet chic piece to receive that I know will take me through so many seasons!

Throw Blanket

Like the poncho, I am loving this bold color! This blanket is so soft and fuzzy, it just feels like comfort when you run your hand over it. My daughter is really into blankets lately and loves picking a new one before she goes to bed so I decided to gift this to her. Once I gave it to her she hugged it and said, "cozy!" You know it is soft when a 2-year-old approves it as her bedtime blanket! This is such a great item to receive in a winter box.

Verdict: This was my first time receiving a crate from Relax & Radiate and we are off to a great start! The majority of the products are made by Relax & Radiate specifically for this Winter crate. This really shows me the attention to detail in each product like the vine design on so many of the products, and the thoughtful curation that goes into building each box. However, since these products are created just for this box, I was not able to find their retail value online. I received 10 items this month which means each item has an average cost of $4.50, a really great value for everything. All of the products were very high quality, from the poncho to the blanket, I could see most of these products being valued at way more than that average price. My favorite items this month would have to be the poncho and the candle, but I'm pretty obsessed with the blanket and socks as well! The painting kit is a fun project that I will get to work on with my son, and I am hoping to get lost in this month's featured book. For me, this book screamed cozy comfort, everything makes me want to get cozy in my house. Since this box is quarterly, I could see it being a wonderful gift to yourself or a friend. As a busy Mom, I loved that this box focused so much on quality products that can be used in my everyday life! I can't wait to see what the Spring Crate will bring!

I liked the gift box – I felt tickled to receive each item. Just curious each time the money is taken out of your account as of 3/22/21 does the gift box arrive?

I’m in my 40s, so I guess I’m in the target age group, but this stuff just seems boring to me. No, I don’t want glittery eye shadow (I didn’t want that when I was 20 either), but when I think of a box for the over-35 crowd, I think of higher-quality items that maybe we couldn’t afford when we were just starting out, or housewares that you don’t have room for in a tiny apartment. I guess I just don’t see the need for a box whose only theme is “women over 40” when there are plenty of boxes that aren’t age-specific. Personally, I wouldn’t have been interested in Nordic design or higher-end clean beauty in my 20s, but I am now, and the sub box world is here for me with endless choices!

Tolin, I’m super delayed in jumping in here, but you might be interested in the Norlii subscription! We review that one, too! https://boxes.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/box/norilli

Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback!

I can see some people liking this box because of the quantity but for me the the same design throughout with their name/branding means they manufactured these items just for this box. This is just cheap junk made in China. Easy pass.

I wasn’t sure how you were going to make that poncho work, but Taryn that whole outfit looks really good on you!

This is a definite improvement over their first box. I note some branding but most items don’t scream “AARP” like every product did in the first box, making it impossible to gift without having to answer questions (I’m not in the retirement age group, but liked the idea of the relax & radiate theme, but what does it say to regift something with AARP stamped on it?)

Where is the review for the first box? I don’t see it on this site.

I received the 1st box and it was terrible. There was multiple plastic Dollar store items and quality just wasn’t there. It was the first box and a learning curve so stuck with it and box number two was so much better. I agree, everything was stamped with AARP and girlfriend so you cannot regift it. The 3rd box has just recently come and it’s unfortunately back to a lot of branding and cheaper little kid items. They promise the summer box will be better. The online community is difficult. You get bullied if not saying everything is wonderful.

Oh, I completely missed that it was an AARP box! Now I feel old, lol.

But honestly, there aren’t a lot of options for those of us at that age! I don’t want a bunch of sparkly makeup and stuff I wouldn’t use. I have subscribed to so many boxes in the past but ended up giving everything to my daughters. So, even if things are ‘branded’ and I can use them, I would still subscribe. I would like a box with items just for me 🙂

shakingmyhead

It looks like it is, I missed that earlier too, lol.

Nice box! I am pretty overloaded with products from various boxes over the last couple of years, but this looks like a nice one. I may have to consider subscribing 🙂
