Atlas Crate December 2020 "Greece" Review

This month we are traveling to Greece and this airmail envelope is full of information for us. On the bottom of the envelope, there is a list of what is included in our crate and a fun "Atlas Quest" to complete using our newfound knowledge after exploring this month's country.

In our first box, which was based on the world, we received an Adventure Book that contained cards for each of the continents and we are able to add to it each month as we receive cards for each of the new countries. They also provide a sticker for us to add to it as well which is a fun way to track our travels! Everything in this box is incredibly organized and nicely packaged making it easy to locate it all.

The cards for our adventure book are bright, vibrant, and full of information. This month they highlighted the Olympics and the Acropolis. My favorite fact that has me wanting to move to Greece is that they have an average of 250 cloudless days per year. Imagine all of that bright sunshine!

They always include some "do" pages and this month we have a recipe for Tzatziki sauce which I know my husband will appreciate due to his love of Greek food, and there is a great guide for creating our own black-figure pottery.
Activity #1: Trojan Horse

The first activity in this box was to make our own Trojan horse. This was a fun story to share with my kids and my son was excited about the idea of having a horse to store treasures inside!

They provided all of the pieces that we needed including some foam stickers and several wooden sturdy wooden shapes.
1 of 9 | The first step was to add these wooden pieces to one side of the body.
The last step was to add the wheels to our horse using the small wooden dowels, four circles, and four little rubber bands.

Here is our finished horse. To open the trap door you push its tail in and it releases the door. It's a small space, but still really fun for a kid to hide some tiny treasures inside of! Plus, with the wheels, this horse rolls around which is also pretty fun!
We decided to add some color to his horse and really personalize it!
Activity #2: Santorini Collage

The next activity was to make a Santorini collage. Lately, we have been dividing up the projects between my two oldest kids so while my son worked on his horse, my daughter was excited to start on this project.

Again, they provided everything we needed including a little bottle of glue along with a paper bowl, a paintbrush, a black marker, and our main collage pieces.
They provided these little squares of tissue paper and I appreciated how they were separated and labeled with each part of our collage making it easy to find what we needed.

Then we had to let everything dry. When it was dry we trimmed the edges of our circle and then we stacked the land piece on top of the sky circle and added the blue piece to the bottom securing it all with a brad fastener.

Then she got to work adding these white foam shapes to create the buildings on the land section of her collage. She used the markers to draw windows.

It turned out really cool! You use the blue tab at the back to spin it so that the sky can change from day to night as if the sun is rising or setting over the city. Very creative and cute!
Verdict: We had so much fun getting creative with our Greek projects from month's Atlas Crate box. I love that there are two activities making it easy to split between my older two children and everything is so well organized making it easy for me to oversee both projects at once. I like that they get to have a hands-on experience while also learning about a new culture. This box provides just enough information about Greece to be engaging and I appreciate that they included some extra activities, such as our Tzatziki recipe, that will allow us to continue the learning if we choose to!
