The Box By Fashionsta December 2020 Review

The Box By Fashionsta comes with a simple info card that provides a short description of each included product, along with its individual retail value.

Glow Juice Refining Enzyme Mask by Earth Harbor, 2 fl oz. - Retail Value $40.00

This mask was so fun to use! It goes on as a gel and makes your skin feel super cool and then it tightens as it dries. All you have to do is apply this mask to dry skin, leave on for three minutes, and then rinse with warm water. It is safe to use 2 to 3 times a week as well. This mask is made with red seaweed, fruit enzymes, white willow bark, and aloe leaf juice to help soothe, refine, and gently exfoliate your skin. The site notes that the mask is great for targeting redness, acne, pores, excess oil, and dullness. I have used this twice so far and have really enjoyed it. I will say that I tend to feel a little drier the day after I use this mask, but that can be expected with my skin since we are in the middle of winter and my skin is naturally very dry. I have noticed a few blemishes come out a bit more the next morning, most likely because I had build-up and the mask is working deep down to exfoliate. My skin's texture is looking smooth and fresh since I started using the mask so I can safely say that this is a product I will continue to use.

Sal Himalayan Body Polish by Becalia Botanicals, 6 oz. - Retail Value $33.00

Is there anything better than a long, hot shower, where you get to use a body polish? It makes me feel so luxurious and fresh! According to the website, this body polish was "inspired by our founder’s family home town and the tropical paradise, Coyuca de Benitez, Gro. Mx." (Coyuca de Benítez in the state of Guerrero, south-western Mexico) It has this amazingly fresh scent that absolutely reminds me of breathing in the fresh beach air. The polish is gentle while still providing a great exfoliation. It is made with sweet almond oil, coconut oil, and shea butter to help soothe and polish your skin. My skin is naturally very dry so any extra moisture that I can give it is a bonus for me. I have used this twice already and was blown away by how amazing it felt. The polish isn't harsh when rubbing it into my skin, yet I came out of the shower feeling so clean and silky. My skin has felt better even days after using this as well. I am especially loving the results I have seen so far by using this on my feet, a big dry skin problem area for me. What a wonderful product to receive in the middle of winter to help with my skin!

Neumoisture Intensive Masque by Neuma, 6.8 oz. - Retail Value $36.00

I have long, thick, curly hair which means my hair is naturally pretty dry and prone to knots. I don't even want to tell you how long it can take me to brush my hair out after washing. I rarely use masques like this on myself at home, but I was really excited to give this a try! This masque is made specifically for dry and chemically damaged hair (hi, it's me!). Some of the ingredients include yarrow extract, jojoba, grape seed extract, and essential oils for the scent of lavender, tangerine, and vanilla. The site suggests using this weekly after shampooing, leting it sit for 2 to 3 minutes before rinsing off completely. It works to restore your hair's moisture, detangles and provides humidity protection. I've only used this once so far but I was really happy with the results! My hair looked and felt healthier and brushing it out was way easier than normal. I noticed less frizz as well. Since I have so much hair I can tell that this bottle won't last too long, but if I continue to see such great results I just might have to buy more!

Everybody Loves Sunday Brunch Palette by IBY Beauty - Retail Value $20.00

This palette features such bold colors that really take me out of my comfort zone! I honestly love receiving palettes, I know a lot of people have palette overload lately, but I just really enjoy receiving new ones. Plus, if one doesn't work for me, I know I can pass them along to my mom or a friend that will appreciate it. This palette features colors that I have never used before and a few that sparkle. Each palette shade is also made with rose hip oil to help create a smooth application. These colors all went on really well with little fallout. I noticed that I didn't have to do a ton of applications to get my desired color, each shade really seems to go on as-is which could be thanks to the rose hip oil. While I can't see myself rocking all of these shades just yet, they will be fun to play around with in the summer when I have a bit of a tan.

Color-Cray Lipsticks in Matte by Young Blood Cosmetics - Retail Value $19.00

I am so in love with this color! I used to wear a bold lip color like this most days when I was in my early 20s. Now I really stick to more neutral browns and pinks, but there are those special occasions (or random Tuesdays) that I just want to be bold. The lipstick goes on smoothly and feels hydrating but it gives you a matte finish which I absolutely love! When it says that this will last for hours, they are correct, this color stayed put most of the day with the need to reapply happening maybe twice. It is enriched with emollients, vitamin E, and real diamond powder. It felt so fun to use a bold lip like this especially in the middle of winter when things aren't so bright. This lipstick is going to be a special occasion staple for me!

Matte-Je-Stick Oil Absorbing Paper by Sway - Retail Value $12.00

I say this a lot, but I have naturally very dry skin. I use a lot of moisturizers and facial oils to achieve a more glowy look so a product like this, that's made to absorb oil, isn't really a necessity for me. The site says that these naturally-derived blotting papers are great to use after applying a cream foundation or blush to absorb any extra oil which can help your makeup stay put. They also help to create a smooth matte finish. The papers also come in a roll in this compact case so you can keep it handy in your desk or purse without the delicate papers getting crushed. The compact rolls out like a foil container so you can take as much or as little off of the paper as you need. I do tend to get foundation creases under my eyes that I typically just blend with my finger, but I have been using these papers there to help blend and remove excess oil. It seems to be working well!

Verdict: The Box By Fashionsta was so luxurious this month! The winter always makes me feel so dry, and this month's products really focused on exfoliating, smoothing, and hydrating. The mask is so quick and easy to use, and it has done a great job at clearing build-up from my skin. The body polish was my favorite item this month! I honestly love allowing myself the time to take a luxurious shower, coming out with silky smooth skin. The polish has worked wonders on exfoliating without making my skin feel raw, it really works well to slough off dead skin and rehydrate me. The hair masque is working wonders on the tangles in my hair which helps to make the mornings when I have to brush my hair out a lot easier. The only item this month that I wasn't in love with was the blotting paper, but that really is a personal preference based on my skin type. This box has a retail value of $160 which is incredible for a $24.99 box. This month felt like the perfect box to receive in the cold winter months and the lipstick and palette brought an added pop of happy color that I need right now. Everything felt so luxurious and perfectly curated to bring a little TLC to my life!

Great review! I got a couple of IBY palettes recently and I really like the formula, especially the shimmers and glittery shades. I like the colors in this one and might grab it if I see it cheap somewhere. I love that lipstick! It looks so good on you!

I really like this sub. I don’t actually receive it because I don’t use eyeshadow (and there seems to be a palette most months,) but it seems different and more unique than ipsy or Boxycharm. Less mainstream labels and more indie, perhaps?

Yes, indie and CF are big focuses. We’ve gotten products from women owned, POC owned and ethically source from all over the world (i.e. body butter from Africa, clay cleanser from India etc). Several products from this box have become my holy grails. They also do a really good job of not sending us the same thing (like black eyeliner and mascara) every month, which I really appreciate.

Great review! I really appreciate the swatches. This was a very good box for me. My item favorite was surprisingly the body polish. I was shocked at how soft and moisturized it left my skin. It’s a bit harsh if you rub it in to hard but the results are awesome.
