Lillypost October 2020 Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Leaves."

Trick or Treat on My Street by J.L. Coppage - Retail Value $6.99

This book was cute and features fun little tabs all around so you could quickly get to the pages, each of which had children dressed up in fun costumes. The book has rhyming text as the children trick-or-treat around their neighborhood and meet up with other children in costumes. I thought this was a cute book and it definitely appealed to my kids with the colorful images and variety of costumes. It was a good length for a board book and I liked the tabs that added some tactile exploration for younger kiddos.

Together We Can by Caryl Hart - Retail Value $12.99 (found here for $10.99)

This book had some great messages throughout and features a lot of diverse characters with bright and colorful images. The message of friendship and kindness were told through rhyming text that was sweet and relatable for kids. While I really liked this book, there was this repetitive phrase throughout the book whose wording was just a bit odd to me. It reads "all over the world and from since time began, we show every day that...together we can." Together we can what? It just didn't flow well for me for some reason and felt like an unfinished thought. This is just me being nitpicky, though and it didn't take away from the overall message!

Turtle and Tortoise are NOT Friends by Mike Reiss - Retail Value $15.99

Turtle and Tortoise are both in the same habitat since they were born and while at first, they think they might be friends, they soon realize that they are not the same and determine that turtles and tortoises should not be friends. Even though they are in the same pen, they keep their distance and rarely interact. Time passes and one day they realize that they aren't actually so different and they become friends for the rest of their time together. This book was funny and a bit quirky as time passes in pretty large increments and the author incorporated some educational facts about these animals in an interesting way. This was another cute book and I especially loved the adorable illustrations of the turtles. My children enjoyed it simply because of the subject matter and we had some fun with the exaggeration in this story!

Verdict: This month's Lillypost box gave us a great range of books. The Halloween book was cute and I liked that it had more to the story than some board books. I thought that Together We Can was a great little book to teach about differences and friendship with a lot of appealing illustrations and our last book was just cute and unique. Another great batch of books to add to our library! The total retail value of our books came to $35.97 ($33.07 with sale prices) which is fair for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the November box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 a month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Trick or Treat on My Street: $4.84
  • Together We Can: $8.99

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
