Well, bummer, I was hoping for the same black box Mary got. My black box is a portion of 2019’s premium black box. I got the eye gel (no – is this a year old?), the slim wallet (ok), the rollerball (good), a keychain tool (good), a rollerball fragrance (good), and a bright red pair of mens socks (eh). I would have liked to have received the 2020 box, especially the $10 off coupon. Compared to the 2019 premium, I’m missing the decision coin, which sounded cool, and the vitamin gummies, which were probably expired. I guess what do you want for free, but I didn’t expect last year’s stuff.

What you got was the free box I got when I joined in September of this year or so – so the eye gel shouldn’t be a year old, necessarily… I would uh, hope they’re new stock, and weirdly the vitamin gummies shouldn’t either… though I’ll have to check expiration dates. I haven’t used either yet.

You should have a coupon in there too on a little plastic-ish credit card-sized thing somewhere. I can’t imagine they newly made boxes and didn’t just send you pre-made ones from September (or, I guess worse, last year)… but, if it’s missing stuff, then… maybe they did? Interesting. The coupon was to encourage ‘holiday shopping’. Leaving that out would actually kinda cause them to lose money on the table, wouldn’t it?

Also to add – a $10 off $75 purchase card!

Just got the Black Box (regular). It came with Honest John Orange Clove Bitters, Saratoga Incense cones from Ash&Fir, a travel domino set, 2 Topo Leather Coasters from Northwind Supply, and a RXBar protein bar. Beats that year when there were a pair of shoelaces!

Well, that makes me wish I had ordered now!

Thanks for posting. If this is my black box I’ll be happy. I got my brother a bar tool set for his new house, so the bitters and coasters (they’re so cool!) will make a great small add. I’ll actually use all of the other items (less so, the domino set), so this is a win … for free.

I actually got both boxes, the basic and the premium, because I placed two orders that day and it automatically added both. Even though I used discount codes that dropped the one below the premium threshold, they still sent me the basic and premium boxes.

The premium box had all of the above items as well as Bombas ankle socks in blue and gray digital camo, men’s size large (I’m a women’s 6.5 and they fit good, albeit a bit roomy) and 25% off coupon for Bombas store. It also had a bottle of Skin Repair Spray by ACTIVE (‘A specialized healing spray for cleaning cuts, scrapes, sunburns, chafing, rashes, bug bites and more’ that says on the bottle it’s made with some ingredient that the body naturally generates to boost healing or something) and a Cowan Carabiner by Everyman.

I’m very happy with the premium box, since Bombas socks are great and run about $12+ on their own before coupons. My sign up Black Box had men’s dress socks that were extremely large, and unlike the fitted ‘low cut’ Bombas there’s no hope for me being able to wear them.

I tried the Skin Repair Spray on a cut but haven’t generated my skin yet, so I’ll have to keep trying it. The carabiner is a solid ‘eh’ and way overvalued on their website, so I got a chuckle there at least.

But for free stuff, it’s absolutely a win. The coasters are actually pretty cool, too.

Bespoke Post provides great customer service! The black box did not show up in my cart because I had used a coupon I had received. Their CS responded quickly and fixed it so I received the Black box after all.

I got the premium box because I wanted to try the heated mug that doubles as a wireless phone charger ($75) and I added an aloe plant for $15. Worse case is that BP has a great satisfaction & return policy.

There are plants? I can’t find any!

My cart didn’t show the box when I checked out, I thought they were just adding them until I saw the picture above. I emailed them, will see what they say.

Carol

I had the same issue. They fixed it.

B

They added my box. Turns out because I had a coupon code it didn’t add. They let me have both. Great CS!! Hope yours works out too Carol.

Carol

Thanks for bring this issue up! I have also emailed them.

Susan

But you can buy aloe plants at Home Depot for $5

Why are you here?

Mary

Has anyone ever gotten a Black Box before? I received a mystery/bonus box when I first subscribed and found it to be very underwhelming. Wondering if this is the same thing with a different name.

Colleen

Yes, it’s mostly stocking stuffers

The premium is what I got when I signed up, I believe. It had socks that were too big (man feet size, which I don’t have), a leather slim wallet (weekend wallet, line of trade), coupon for $10 off 75+, vitamin gummies, a ‘roll on fragrence’, eye gel, the Everyman Porter Key Multitool 2.0, and a ‘decision coin’ that’s pretty cool. I actually don’t think I’ve used any of it since I got it a couple months ago beyond the roller, which I tried once.

Premium I expect to be the same amount of items and all kinda random ‘smalls’. The regular one will likely be akin to what you got. I think past ‘basic’ ones were simple, like a slim wallet, tie and tie clip or a pocket square.

I’ve gotten the black box the last 3-4 years (usually the $90+ enhanced one.) While it is exciting not knowing what you’ll get, it can be disappointing if you’re expecting something of the quality of the boxes. I’ve noticed you’ll usually get a assortment of small items the are a part of some boxes or have been in the sale section for awhile, ie pocket knives, luggage tags/passport cover, hot sauce. But it’s something free in addition to your purchase that you may find something useful or fun!

Mary

Thanks Justin! That sounds about the same as my mystery box — luggage tag, can opener and facial wipes if I remember right.

I just went down a MASSIVE rabbit hole on MSA to find what ‘hidden’ boxes (old boxes that were unlisted yet still able to be purchased in store) were available to hit the threshold for the upgraded mystery box.

Grabbed ‘ceremony’ (a traditional matcha serving set with spoon, whisk, cup/bowl and ceremonial grade matcha), ‘puffed’ (a packable Coalatree hooded puffer jacket, current retail value on sale $111), and ‘juntos’ (a paella box with a carbon steel paella pan, rice, chorizo, paprika and EVOO).

I’m actually pretty thrilled these were available. Coalatree has pretty good stuff and the other two seem like great value for $45. All three are older boxes – I think most are over a year old – so I’ll see if Bespoke Post actually has them in stock – but since you can find them by the search function on the store, I’d hope. Fingers crossed.

Bespoke Post is my favorite of the subscription boxes that I’m in, I think. I grab multiple boxes each month (Concentrate, Dulce, Spark and Dwell were last month for me). They’re all top quality and great value.

I almost went with the lamp (‘Spotlight’) but I controlled myself.

This is awesome. I want ceremony but I already want so many. I bought a staub Dutch I enjoy (what a steal at $99 for me and the electric toothbrush box as a gift. I hope you report back on the jacket, I’ve been eyeing that one.

How’s the quality of the Dwell blanket? Is it more a throw or something larger?

Also … we’re both DW! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

DW

WOAH we are! And I guess I’m noticing your comment about five days late (sorry!)

The Dwell blanket is indeed a little larger than a throw, like Zo said. I don’t find it itchy but I do find it scratchy – I don’t itch, but it’s not soft and cuddly. It’s somewhat thin but still warm, I was pretty impressed with the quality for $45. I don’t know if I’d spend retail on it (which is closer to $90 I think) but for $45 it’s a really solid and attractive blanket. I’ve got it on my bed as a top blanket since it is a little scratchy.

For $45 you can’t go wrong. It’ll definitely hold up and it’s not a piece of crap blanket. I got the blue/gray and the blue is vibrant and very attractive.

Right now the best value, IMHO, is Puffed. I got it today in the mail. The jacket is absolutely excellent for $45 and I’m pretty sure you can’t find a jacket of that quality for $45 anywhere else. I’m a busty gal and the Large fits great with room to spare for layering. I haven’t unboxed Juntos yet, nor have I unboxed Ceremony. Ceremony, if you do like matcha, is also a good value – but matcha preparation in that way is a bit tedious (it’s not meant to be easy though, to be fair).

This was a killer deal for these items + the black box and premium box (I placed two orders so I could utilize some coupons and the boxes actually stayed added to my order, I wasn’t expecting them to ship both yet they still did). Bespoke Post is one of the best things I’ve subscribed to, hands down.

Zo

It’s on the larger side of a throw but still a throw (50″x70″). And it’s 80% wool so it’s slightly itchy. I like wool and I don’t mind the itchiness of wool (unless it’s on my neck like a turtleneck) so I have this one. It’s nice and warm.

Beth in Oklahoma

I ordered 2 of the older boxes as gifts. Hopefully I’ll get some good stuff in the premium box!
