November 2020 BeautyFIX Review

No info booklet was included this month.

Babor Collagen Concentrate Ampoule Serum Concentrates, 8 ampoules - Full Size! Retail Value $49.95

Gosh, do I love a glass-vialed ampoule! Something about them just feels so fancy and also scientific! These vials do more than just make a satisfying snap when cracked open though, they hold enough product for a single serving application (and often a little more) and keep it fresh and ready for when you need it. This particular formula contains loads of goodness: panthenol, soothing allantoin, lactic acid, niacinamide, and moisturizing PCA. This goo is also pretty strongly perfumed, which isn't great for your skin but my nose is in heaven and I like to think that the other ingredients make up for it! This stuff applied smoothly and like a dream and there is more than enough to cover your face and neck with some leftover. The instructions say to use the whole ampoule at once, but I will admit that my mom and I shared one or two while I was at home. This set of 7 came with a plastic tool for snapping the glass vials open, but if you lost yours immediately (COUGH) you can always wrap the neck in a tissue to open them safely.

REN Clean Skincare Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask, 1o mL - Estimated Value $9.60 (buy a full size 50 mL for $48.00)

This product's ingredient list caught my eye immediately, mainly because of the order of ingredients. The first is white mushroom extract, which I have seen in products but it usually isn't the first ingredient. Next, there was yeast from magnesium beta-glucan (this is a super soother for skin and its found in mushrooms, among other things), Roman chamomile (another soothing superstar), and then water. Since the first set of ingredients here are skin-soothing superstars, it is no wonder why this mask is called a "rescue mask". It also boasts shea, jojoba, and algae extracts. The only things inside that might not be super soothing for some users could be the perfuming ingredients (some are EOs others appear to be artificial) but this cream doesn't actually have a super strong scent if that makes anyone feel better. The texture of this heavier cream is a dream! You can apply it and then wipe off after 10-15 minutes or you can accidentally fall asleep in it and unintentionally use it as a sleeping mask like I did. Either way, expect super soft skin that looks a lot calmer!

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, 1 oz - Estimated Value $4.50 (buy 8 oz for $36.00)

I have a lot of hair, so while I like this brand, I am usually not super excited for smaller samples because I know I will only get one use out of them. I have used this before as a mask and I really loved it. Simply apply it to your damp hair after shampooing and conditioning, then leave on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. It really does add tons of smoothness and luster to my hair, especially since I air dry. I also use this everywhere except my roots because I personally find it too heavy up there. Side note, you can also use this mask as a balm on dry hair! I do it all the time, especially in winter when everything is a static mess. Just rub a little between your hands and run them through your tresses! Instant shine boost and frizz won't stand a chance.

Sachajuan Hair Repair, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.29 (buy a full size 8.4 fl oz for $36.00)

It felt a little repetitive to get another hair mask in this same box, but I guess I get multiple serums and moisturizers sometimes and I don't complain. I thought between this and the Briogio mask above, the Briogio worked better, but dang this one smells so good! I used it in the shower on my hair, applying to my strands after shampooing, conditioning, and wringing out most of the water. I left it on for about 15 minutes (and also ran out of hot water, oops) and then rinsed. Much like the other mask this month, my hair looked and felt incredible.

Vichy LiftActiv Peptide-C Anti-Aging Moisturizer, 0.51 fl oz - Estimated Value $11.77 (buy a full size 1.69 fl oz for $39.00)

I, sadly, didn't like this moisturizer. As someone with dry skin, seeing alcohol denat as the 5th ingredient was a giant indication that maybe this wasn't for me. There was also an appearance by isopropyl alcohol a little further down, which I also don't really love to see. There just wasn't enough in here to make me think this was a great formula in general other than adenosine and glycerine. It isn't often that I scan an ingredient list where I see NONE of my faves (niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, etc) but this is one of those. I give this one a big ole' shrug emoji.

HoliFrog Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash, 5.1 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $36.00

I love cleansers and this brand was new to me. Add in the cute packaging and the fact that this addition is full-size? Heck yeah! I get it, most of us have been maybe wearing less makeup and staying home more, but cleansing is still such an important part of your routine! This formula has loads of good stuff including probiotics which nourish and strengthen your skin's natural biome. Pair those with botanical extracts from rice, broccoli, grames, and camellia? Winning. This cleanser doesn't have a scent I found easy to describe but it is pleasant and fresh. The texture is a pale yellow sort of gel that lathers up beautifully and leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean.

FYI: There was a missing item from my box this month. I have reached out to BeautyFix for, well, a fix, and will update if/when I hear back! In the meantime, it looks like this was a common error this month. Read more in the comments here!

Here is the info on the missing item:

Verso Super Facial Serum with Retinol 8, sample size unknown - Buy a full size 1.01 fl oz for $120.00

Verdict: This month's BeautyFIX has a value of $116.11, not counting the missing Verso product. That is still pretty good for a $24.95 box. And while one item was totally a dud for me (the Vichy cream), everything else was really enjoyable! I think both of the full-size items (the cleanser and ampoule) alone make this box worth the cost though the Verso serum would have been nice too.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the December box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.95 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Babor Ampoules $10.73
  • REN Rescue Mask $2.06
  • Briogeo Mask $0.97
  • Sachajuan Hair Repair $0.92
  • Vichy Moisturizer $2.53
  • HoliFrog Gel Wash $7.74

Alternatively, each of the 6 items has an average cost of $4.16.

I made these calculations without the missing Verso product.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Megan,
I like your reviews.I like that you take the time to look up ingredients in skincare, and tell it like it is.

At first, I didn’t think I like this box enough to subscribe but I changed my mind after your review.
Megan, would you know if there will be a Black Friday deal for Beautyfix as you usually have? I would hate to sign up now and see a deal tomorrow.

Hi GM! I wish I knew the answer to this. I reached out to the rest of MSA team and it looks like we aren’t sure if there will be a deal or not. I wish I had the answer for you!! I will keep my fingers crossed that if there is one, it is a good one, even if we don’t have the deets! ♥️

Thanks Megan. I’m gonna wait a few days and see.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING Everyone!

I normally don’t like getting hair products in boxes because my hair is very dry/frizzy & I’ve only found a few products that actually work so I’m usually disappointed. I have gotten the Briogeo before & was not impressed but I will try your suggestion of using it as a balm on dry hair!

I received mine as well. I called & asked them about, the representative told me it was an error on their part & didn’t have anymore in stock. (Which was odd) but a day after I called, they sent it in a mid sized envelope. So I guess that means they are sending them separate or at least they did in my case.

Thank you for your detailed reviews! You and I have similar preferences for ingredients (avoiding alcohol denat and fragrances) so I find your write ups to be really helpful.

I really liked November’s box. I found the curation to be exciting and I’m loving the Holifrog so far. I gave away the Vichy for the same reasons you listed. And the hair masks felt like a treat to use.

I was also missing the Verso but Dermstore had sent out an email to everyone saying they would ship it separately, and also offered a $5 off code for their store. It seems like they had a supply issue. I ended up getting it a week later! I really love their customer service.

I found this to be one of my favorite boxes. The cleanser is really nice, the Babor collagen vials were a nice treat. I didn’t need more hair repair (hair is short), but overall it was a nice box.

Nice, thorough review, Megan! I haven’t gotten beautyfix in awhile but still enjoying reading the reviews. Bummer about the missing item! I thought I also heard they are charging shipping for the first box…
