CAUSEBOX Fall 2020 Review

Each CAUSEBOX comes with a beautiful booklet full of information about each product, its origins, and other tips and anecdotes. I really love learning more about the independent makers behind artisan products and designers and this booklet had so much info! I always read this book from cover to cover!

Let's dive in!

Bathen Robe in Charcoal - Listed Value $90.00

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this robe in a mint color OR a charcoal or mint towel set.

I was really excited about this robe, but also kind of cautious thanks to all of the mentions of shrinkage from readers. Mine just barely fit straight out of the box (I generally wear a 14/16) and I would have been happier with more room through the hips for sure. If you are looking for a plush and cozy robe, this isn't it. I do actually really like the waffle-textured cotton fabric though. It does a nice job of wicking away any moisture left over from a shower and feels good on my skin. I can see myself using this a lot more in the spring or summer because in these cold months I was looking for something oversized and super plush!

Tease Tea 3 in 1 Sustainable Glass and Bamboo Tea Tumbler - Retail Value $39.00

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this item OR a lantern.

I drink tea pretty much constantly. So this was an easy win in my eyes. This set is perfect for loose leaf tea or fruit infusions because it has both a strainer and a tea basket. You can even get super wild and drink your tea with fruit if you want! I love tossing a lemon slice or 4 into the bottom of this tumbler then brewing a green tea on top. The glass tumbler itself is beautiful, and it arrived with a great sleeve to protect it and keep my hands from getting hot. I also have to mention how happy I am that this tumbler is pretty large! 450 mL of tea is enough to get me through at least half of my day!

Tribe Alive Rose Gold Criss Cross Cuff - Listed Value $42.00

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this item OR a VOLIM Love Scrub OR an Aromatherapy Associates Muscle Gel.

If you have been reading my reviews for a while, you know I really like cuff bracelets! Especially ones that are thinner and minimal like this one. While I don't normally lean towards rose gold, there was something about how delicate this design was paired with the rose gold color that I really liked. I found that it fit well (my wrist is 6.5 inches at the smallest point) and was easily adjustable if I took it slow. My skin does tend to eventually turn everything green but I haven't noticed any of that yet, which I am very thankful for! This is a very chic piece for wearing solo or layering and it goes just as well with a casual top or a fancier dress.

I guess it even goes with a grey sweatshirt!

The Green Co. Reusable Makeup Remover Pads - Listed Value $10.00 (buy 16 for $14.95)

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this item OR a basil seed grow kit.

I have a set of these already from another box, but those were 100% cotton while these are a blend of bamboo and cotton. I LOVE pads like this because even with my other set I haven't bought cotton rounds since May. They are really easy to wash thanks to an included laundry bag and actually feel a lot nicer on my face than my disposable past choices. These are extra versatile because they have a slightly rougher side and then a more plush side, which is great for exfoliating with your fave toner before bed. This set of 10 will be combined with my other set so I can go even longer between washes.

Core Bamboo Serve Set - Listed Value $35.00

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

I like that CAUSEBOX has been including some kitchen stuff lately. While this bamboo set might not be the most exciting thing to see inside this box, it is really, really useful, especially if you plan on hosting holiday gatherings this year or if you just like nice serving tools for smaller dinners at home. I love using bamboo spoons and spatulas because they won't melt or scratch the finish off of any of my pots and pans. The tongs included are useful for flipping items in hot pans or tossing salads and veggies. We recently trashed 2 of my older cutting boards because they were plastic, warped, and honestly just ugly. This bamboo one is a total upgrade because, in addition to being pretty, it is also made of renewable material and with proper care should only get better with age.

Way of Will Brightening Face Serum, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $37.50

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

Our last item is a glass bottle of serum that smells really great! I know, I know, the smell isn't the most important factor here, but I caught a whiff of it when I opened the box and was in love. The brightening formula has loads of vitamin C (which helps with dark spots) and vitamin A (an antioxidant that protects against damage and aging). This serum is on the oilier side though it seemed to absorb pretty quickly on my dry face. If you are oilier or just want an extra treat, try one of my favorite winter face oil indulgences!

Step 1: Get cozy. I like to lay back on a couch with a towel draped across my chest and neck for this.

Step 2: Massage a generous amount of an oil-based serum or facial oil onto your face. Take your time here and move your fingers up and down your face, noticing where there is tension and taking some time to work it with your fingers. I hold so much tension between my eyebrows and massaging them literally has taken headaches away for me. Don't worry if you are feeling extra oily right now, we will fix that in a second. Spend at least 5 minutes really giving your face some love.

Step 3: Run a towel under warm or hot water then wring it out so it's damp but not dripping. Lay back down and wrap your face with the warm towel, starting at the jaw then crisscrossing over your face with enough room for your nose and mouth to be exposed. Let the warmth from the towel relax your face even more, and press on it with your hands softly.

Step 4: Remove the towel, follow up with a moisturizer if needed, and glow!

Art Print

And in every box, CAUSEBOX includes a postcard print you can mail or frame. This one is very cute and features the work of Cynthia Kittler, an illustrator from Germany!

Verdict: This CAUSEBOX was a little hard to calculate the value for, but if I rely on both the retail values I could find and the listed values of the items in the book, I come to a total of $253.50 which is great for a $49.95 box. I will admit that this wasn't my absolute favorite CAUSEBOX, but I still think the items inside were more than worth the subscription cost. The highlights for me were the tea tumbler, the reuseable cotton rounds, and the cuff. The robe left me wanting a little more but I did enjoy the bamboo set and the serum. And in all, this is one of those boxes that always seems to deliver creative curations that are a lot of fun and I always appreciate how thoughtfully they are chosen with respect to other humans and the Earth.

Dont Fret~Yet:) I’m Sure ‘Most’ Havent Yet. I’ve Not either. There Seems to Be “Major Issues” w/Shipping ESP w/USPS. I was Beginning to think it was Just a ME thing (& Only w/ IPSY pkgs). I found there’s a Group Formed just to Figure out WHATs Going on & What they’ve Done to Fix Recving Pkgs (basically Nothing CAN be Done) Different Couriers (Fed Ex, UPS etc) are Getting Pkgs out Quicker BUT IF Co (Seller) sends out Through DHL & USPS No telling WHEN/IF Customers will Receive. I JUST got Christmas Card from Brother/Wife living in PA & I live in NC. She Probably Mailed it @Thanksgiving too! IPSY Box from Oct.. Still Not Here. IPSY Ultimate Dec Probably Sitting w/Oct box or Someone Elses House. Bsck to “CAUSEBOX”.. it’s Pretty Good Sub Box, BUT like You & Not knowing HOW they Work Emailed Regarding my 1ST “Fall Box” seeing Emails to Join when I already Had-Someone Emailed Back Explaining Where to Look on My Acct Page but She Also Provided Tracking #.. Recvd & Loved Box. However I’d Email them just to Ease Mind & maybe Get Tracking #. I Emailed Week ago & Recvd Tracking #. I just Checked My ‘Causebox’ Tracking Status & BEEN on its Way but it’s MOVING thru “Fed Ex” which is Good. So it’s Guaranteed & Confident Make it Here. All My Sub Boxes using DHL/USPS I’m. rethinking membership (like IPSY, Allure & Macys) Hate see Allure go Or Suspended BUT til Govt Quits Playing w/Our FEDERAL Tracking Co (USPS) might Just do exactly that.. Shippers like IPSY etc have CHOICE to Change Couriers KNOWING this is Problem (IPSY Wont bcuz Still Get $$ out of Your Acct on 30th) Macy has problems Stocking what they Advertised for Sub box & throws in Something else. ALLURE I Love but don’t like Contacting CS Every Month to Get Mine/Daughters Tracking. I think we HAD Boxes lost thru USPS stuff & ALLURE Saw so sent New Boxes. Since I Have Many Sub Boxes I use “Shop” & “Track” Apps to Show Routes being Taken & Know WHERE Boxes (like IPSY) end up Sitting &/or Stolen thru Certain USPS HUBs. I know Wrote Novel BUT took Me Losing Sub Boxes & Money Before got frustrated & after downloading (2) Tracking Apps & Having Documentation for Emailing CO’s Customer Service. Good Luck;)

I just received a couple of the star lanterns that I bought as add ons with my fall box & I can’t get the star effect to show up in mine like the advertisement for it. I’ve tried putting a larger votive candle in & blackening the room but I must still be doing something wrong. I bought one to give as a gift I a few days, so I’m glad I tried mine out first since it doesn’t seem to work.
Has anyone been able to get theirs to ‘work’ ? Thank you for any help!

Rochelle

Just to follow up, my gift recipient has used hers and the stars show up nicely on her wall! I think the problem is my room/space, not the lantern. She loves it!

I didn’t get this box because nothing really stood out. I didn’t like how many options there were with so few opportunities to choose and there were huge price disparities between items. I loved Causebox in the past but it’s been a bit lackluster lately imo 🌸

I got the gold lantern and it’s beautiful – big and gold with star cutouts. The platform at the bottom has a hole for inserting a tea light, but the one I used didn’t give off much light. I put a small ceramic plate at the bottom of the lantern then used a larger candle. (The height/width is plenty big enough) The result is stunning! So beautiful!! Wish I could buy another.

This would have been my perfect box and I would of bought it at full price. Going annual for me is not in the cards because I have too much stuff already so I have to be selective. And seasonal with causebox is too random. Usually I get there welcome boxes if the guarantee item is great. Hoping the robe makes a later guaranteed item box appearance.

The towels were a big downer for me. They seem ok for a spring or summer box but not going into fall and winter–at least not in Wisconsin. Maybe better for warmer states. I’ll just pick them away until it gets warm in 7-8 months 😉

I washed my towels before using them. 🙁 They shrunk up and look like dish clothes now. Terrible fabric. Very disappointing.

Loved my box too. The towels are great. After washing, I stretch each side n dry on rack. They feel like I’m exfoliating my body n face and are very absorbent for hair. Love the lantern too. Hunting for a battery tea candle with timer.
My market box came this week n I more than love it. So many household things and a few for me too. The Daily Hair Vitamin is a winner since I try to wash only a few times a week.

I enjoyed the box more than I expected. Even though I had cancelled one subscription, I ended up with 2 boxes, which made me disappointed I hadn’t selected different things. Instead I am in the process of listing a bunch of one box on Poshmark.
I do think the tray is nice but an odd choice — in the middle of a pandemic when there are studies showing recent spikes are attributable largely to social gatherings with family and friends, it made me sad to see the tray and think about the fact we won’t be having holiday gatherings this year. I’ll have to pile it up with cheese and crackers for myself! 🙂

I think it’s worth mentioning that only annual subscribers get to choose?

Anyway, I chose the charcoal robe, rounds, lantern and cuff. I absolutely love the cuff, it actually made the entire box worth it for me. And I’m not really a bracelet person. It fits my wrist nicely and doesn’t wiggle around too much, which drives me crazy.

I love the rounds, I actually have some from etsy, but these are super soft and the bag is a lot better than the wash bag I picked up from the dollar tree. It’s so nice to have extras because, let’s be honest, I hate doing laundry.

The lantern is great, it makes such a pretty starry background.

The robe is.. not great. If I saw it for like, $12.99 at TJ Maxx maybe i’d pick it up for one of my teenagers, but I’m just pretending that’s what I paid for it. It fits her OK, but honestly, it fits her size 4 sister best. Maybe because the ties are right under the armpits?

The serving set I haven’t opened yet, but I’m excited to give it to my sister in law for Christmas, and the serum smells great but we just got one in the last box so I’m still making my way through that. I like the way this smells, though.

That is a good callout Mieke! We mention it at the top but it would be helpful to mention under each item. I will add that. Thanks for the reminder ♥️ .
I am glad you are also a fan of the rounds! I love them. And that cuff is A+. Glad I am in good company!

I almost skipped this box but decided to take it because of the tea tumbler and the cuff. I agree the cuff is the star of the box – it’s one of the nicest pieces of jewelry I’ve received in a sub box!

Great review, Megan, and thanks for the self-care tip at the bottom! I’ll definitely be doing that soon!

I really like the cuff, and I’m not even a cuff person =)

I chose the towels and love them. Everything else I selected was great as well. Very nice conclusion to my annual.

I just got my box this weekend too. I got all of the same items except I selected the face scrub instead of the cuff (the face scrub works great but has a SUPER strong fragrance that lasted even after my shower and into the afternoon). I think my favorite item is the tease bottle, so excited to use it. The sleeve is a wonderful addition and makes me feel better about it being glass!

The postcard/print is sooo cute, i’m thinking of pinning it to my bulletin board in my office!

Ami

I was interested in this box for the robe. Thanks for mentioning the texture! Plush is where its at during fall and winter.

I enjoy this box, but I wish quarterly subscribers had the ability to choose between a few of the items. I received the towels, but had hoped to get the robe. I also got the lantern instead of the tea tumbler and the basil kit instead of the cotton rounds (I was hoping for the cotton rounds), and the Love Scrub instead of the rose gold bracelet which I was hoping for the bracelet as well, lol.

FYI: FabFitFun has a cozy plush robe as an option for their Winter Box =)

hehe, my box couldn’t have been more different! Mint towels, basil, lantern, and love scrub. I enjoyed my box a ton, but looking at your review, I would have enjoyed those items as well! I like that Causebox feels more “adult” than some of the other boxes with a nice mix of home items, self-care, and only a little skincare. ,

Still can’t get a tracking number. My account says all orders have shipped but mine says still awaiting. I have contacted customer service twice with a response to hold tight we will get that information to you and it has been over a week. So frustrating! Anyone have a phone number for customer service? All I can find is an email.

Izobel

Thank you for the review and for sharing your “winter face oil indulgence”!
I was disappointed in the robe, mine didn’t shrink much (I did hand-stretched it after drying it), but developed some holes next to one sleeve, where it wasn’t properly sewed. I guess it escaped the quality control.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenny

I don’t think your holes were an anomaly. I had the same problem, along with fraying at the hem.

I got the towels instead of the robe and felt pretty much the same. I selected the grow kit and the bottle both I loved. The towels were the only disappointment. I just received my market items from Causebox – they took FOREVER to come, but they are fantastic! Everything was of high quality even the dental floss refills and sustainable sponges! Next market I will probably go wild and buy too much. By far the best market and overall I was pleased with this box as well. As said the bamboo items were actually appreciated and probably made the box even though they aren’t the sexiest item.
