BoxyCharm September 2020 Tutorial + Review

This month’s Boxycharm theme is "Glam Vibes Only" and with a name like this, I’m guessing there are plenty of things in this month's box to help us get our glam on! So with that said let's jump into it and see what fun look we can come up with.

Our very first product is the MudMasky Blue Light Protection Mask. This is the second time that Boxycharm has sent us a product from this brand. Mudmasky is a very unique brand that focuses on skincare and hair care. This particular mask is very unique and stands out from your ordinary mask. This mask helps to block high energy visible light that we often get from overuse of electronic devices. If you are anything like me, you are constantly on your phone, tablet, or just parked in front of the tv. This mask helps to prevent premature aging caused by HEV lights. This product can also replace your normal day cream while protecting your skin and keeping it moisturized at the same time. The instructions say to apply a thin layer to clean and dry skin, leaving it on throughout your day. Of course, there's no way for me to show you results with this product, however, I feel much better typing up this review just knowing that my skin is now protected.

Our next product is also a skincare product from the Kate Somerville line. I am familiar with this brand and happen to own a few of her products that I really like. However, I have never tried this product before. This exfoliating treatment is made for all skin types and is suppose to do major things in just two minutes. In the two minutes this product is on your face, it is supposed to clear away dead skin cells, transform texture and pores and of course, exfoliate your skin.

Although the product suggests that you keep it on for the full two minutes, it also suggests that people with sensitive skin only keep it on for one minute. I love to use a good scrub at least once a week to give my skin a deep cleanse and a break from makeup. Following the directions, I placed a thin layer on my face and began to massage the product in for the 30 seconds recommended. It's a seaweed green color with tiny particles you can feel. I did feel a slight tingle which the product says is normal. You can definitely feel the product tighten as it sits on your face. The smell was a bit strong for me but nothing I can't stand for two minutes.

After the two minutes, I rinsed the product off with warm water and then used a damp warm face towel to remove any particles left behind. After I pat my skin dry I noticed how clean and refreshed my face looked. I also loved the brightening effect it leaves behind. I was really pleased with the outcome and will definitely keep using this product.

I was super excited to see another eyeshadow palette from Alamar Cosmetics. I was actually introduced to their eyeshadow palettes through Boxycharm and I’m grateful to have found them. Their eyeshadows are always rich, creamy, and very pigmented. They are also super easy to work with and easy to blend out. Absolutely everything you want in an eyeshadow. This time we received the Spanglish Pressed Pigment Palette. It has eight stunning shades that you can use to create both a day and night look. There are four matte shades and four shimmers. I wanted to create a simple eye look using four shadows. For this easy eye look, I will be using two matte and two shimmer shades. Let’s get started:

Using a medium fluffy brush, I placed the shade “Muy Excited” across my entire lid and slightly above the crease area.

Here is how this vibrant orange matte shade looks alone.

Next, I took a smaller angled brush and placed the shade “ Ponte Hyper” in the inner corners of my eyes. This shade is a pretty neon pink matte and I just love the way it looks against the orange shade.

Here are those two matte shades worn together.

By first laying down these two matte shades, I created a foundation to build up color before adding similar shimmer shades on top of them. For the orange matte shade, I choose “Pero Like” which is a gorgeous orange sparkle shade with both orange and silver glitters. For the hot pink matte shade, I choose the shade “ Tiene Swing” a dark pink glitter shade with purple accents. For both shimmer shades, I wet a small flat brush to place them on top of the matte shades.

Here is how both shimmer shades look on top of the matte shades.

I then grabbed a small fluffy dense brush to add a regular black matte shade from another palette and placed it on the outer corners of my eyes.

Here is how it looks.

This is the completed eye look after adding black eyeliner on both the top and bottom lash lines and two coats of black mascara.

This month we received two eyeshadow products and our second one is from Huda Beauty. It's their Matte & Metal Melted Shadows. A duel ended liquid eyeshadow with two different finishes. One end has a smooth formula that dries down to a matte finish and the other end has a sparkle shimmer. I received the shade “Silk Bomber & bubblegum”. It's a beautiful deep purple matte shade with a foiled purple shimmer on the other end.

I removed the first eye look so I could see what this product would look like worn alone. I prepped my eyelids with eyeshadow primer first and used the matte side to place the product on my eyelids. The matte side is intended to be placed on and then blended out using either a brush or your fingertips. When I used a small fluffy brush to blend the product out, I noticed that the majority of the product would either smear or come off, so I decided to use my fingertips to pat the product out and this method worked great.

Here is how the matte shade looks worn alone.

Here is this simple eye look completed after.

Next, I used the sparkle side and placed the wand directly where I wanted it to be on my eyes. I love the small wand because you can be very precise in your placement. Both sides of the product dry pretty fast so you have to work quickly before it sets.

This product is perfect when you don't have much time to create a more in-depth eye look. All in all, I simply love this Huda Beauty product, it allowed me to take two shades one matte and one shimmer, and turn it into a glamour makeup look that was very easy to do. This is perfect for those who are just learning how to create eye looks. I also love the packaging making it easy to throw in your handbag or travel with. I really enjoyed the simplicity and the outcome and would love to own a few more shades.

Our final product is something I don't think you can have too many of. A good makeup sponge is always good to have on hand. This makeup sponge is from the Billion Dollar Beauty brand and it's their Charcoal Beauty Sponge. I recently learned the benefits that charcoal has on the skin so I’m not surprised to see it infused in a beauty sponge, I think it's a great idea. It's a latex-free and vegan-friendly product that is made for liquid foundation, concealer, or highlighters. The sponge is very dense making it easier to apply in an even application. I can not wait to give this product a try.

After I placed a primer, concealer, and liquid foundation on my face, I began to use the sponge. I always use my sponges slightly damp because I think liquid foundation goes on a lot more smoothly and even rather than using it dry. My first impression is that it is a very soft sponge that doesn't absorb too much product. My foundation came out very smooth and even without any streaks or patches. I can definitely see myself reaching for this sponge on a daily basis. This is the very first product that I have used from this particular brand and I must say that I am very impressed.

To complete my makeup look I filled in my brows, then went back into our Alamar palette to grab the light purple shade “Eres Un Show”. Using this shadow as a highlighter I placed it under each brow, the highs of my cheekbones and the tip of my nose. I love this gorgeous lilac shimmer shade as a highlighter. Sticking with this purple enhanced makeup look, I added a purple liquid lipstick from L’Oréal cosmetics. After applying the lipstick “Plum Bum”, I added the shimmer side of our Huda Beauty product in the center of my lips to give them a slight shimmer effect. I loved the way this makeup look turned out and I hope you guys like it as well.

Verdict

September's Boxycharm was full of very interesting products and I enjoyed them all. However, I always like to pick a favorite and this month it is the beauty sponge. I love a product that I can use daily and with such great results. I would love to hear from you guys and hear what your favorite item was in this month's Boxycharm.

I am addicted to subscription boxes for so many reasons. For one I simply love the element of surprise that each month brings, whether its beauty, skin care or anything else. I love the opportunity of trying out new products every month without having to commit to the full purchase. My favorite boxes are Boxycharm, Popsugar, and any Mommy and baby boxes. I am a brand new mother and I love trying out new things for my baby and I love how they always have something special for mommy!

Thank you Katy, I was just telling another person who commented that I usually switch up my foundation according to my skin at the time so right now I’m going back and forth between Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation and DermaBlend. When it comes to primer, I’m actually a primer junkie so I have tuns of different ones and I Literally reach for something different daily. For this particular look I used the new ELF putty primer and I absolutely love it! I love the price of it even better. Speaking of primer I was really interested in the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer since I heard so much good stuff about it. So I went to Sephora and bought the travel size since the regular is really expensive. I ended up loving it but not enough to purchase the full one so when I tried the ELF putty primer I kid you not they work the exact same way only the ELF one is way more affordable. I dont know what skin type you have to recommended a good primer for you ( I’m oily) but you should give the ELF one a try if you haven’t. Sorry for the rant. Lol

Hi and thanks, I like to switch up foundations according to my current skincare needs at the time. Most of the time I wear the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. But since my pregnancy I have been breaking out so bad, so right now I’m using DermaBlend to try and cover my scars and breakouts.
