BoxyCharm September 2020 Review

My variation is #50.

Let’s see what I received!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Pore Exfoliating Treatment, 2 oz – Retail Value $85.00

I absolutely love this stuff so whenever it shows up I am really pleased. I have drier skin so an exfoliating product that is effective but not overly harsh or during is a must to maintain my skin’s texture. Especially as it starts getting colder and I just start looking dull. I like to use this in the shower because the little granules can be hard to rine completely off without a lot of water. I like to apply it to my damp face and massage for about 30 seconds then rinse. The salicylic and lactic acid in this formula provide a gentle chemical exfoliation in addition to the physical action caused by the texture of the green goo and the massaging. You can leave this on for 2 minutes but because it does have alcohol inside and my skin is already drier, I just skip to a rinse. This works really well for me! Be sure to properly moisturize after!

Alamar Cosmetics Spanglish Pressed Pigment Palette – Retail Value $28.00

Ever so often I will love an item so much that I feel like I have gone crazy and maybe I am just beauty-drunk. This was one of those items. The pigment level here is WILD. Seriously, the shimmering foils are ridiculously metallic and so easy to apply. I usually have lower expectations for matte shadows but these kept up with those shimmers in terms of pigment levels, bendability, and overall performance. They have a little fallout but honestly who cares when you get color like that? The back of the palette suggests using the for metallic shades wet, but there is really no need to bother. These shine enough on their own. I am in love. Is this the most versatile palette I own? No way. These colors could be considered pretty specific. But does this one spark pure joy when I open it? YES. Especially that electric coral (Pero Like), the electric purple-blue (Guao), and the sweetest pink (Ay Que Cute). If you like these shades, buy this palette. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed with these formulas, especially for this price.

Top to bottom: Pero Like, Tiene Swing, Ay Que Cute, and Muy Excited.

Top to bottom: Eres Un Show, Guao, JAJAJA, and Ponte Hyper.

Huda Beauty Matte & Metal Melted Double Ended Liquid Eyeshadows in ‘Room Service’ and ‘Do Not Disturb’ – Retail Value $25.00

I really love Huda Beauty products because the colors are always so pretty and the formulas are really nice too! I haven’t tried these liquid formulas before, though maybe I played in the testers at Sephora back before everything went crazy? I can’t remember. The colors I received are on the reddish-orange side, which doesn’t bother me too much because I can wear those shades pretty easily. That being said, the matte ‘Room Service’ shade is a lot! It’s so bold and pigmented and honestly looks like I shade I would wear on my lips. I did find it easy to blend if you start right away (it starts to dry pretty fast) and this helped. The rose gold shade is a little more demure and you can easily apply it with a lighter hand and blend for s sheer and twinkling look.

Top: Room Service, Bottom: Do Not Disturb.

Laura Geller LashBOSS Bold Mascara, 8.5 mL – Retail Value $24.00

I must be approaching some world record for mascara tubes. It feels like every single makeup box that arrives in the last few months has had a black mascara. I am thankful there has been a nice variety of brands at least. This isn’t one of my favorite brands but the mascara was solid. It does exactly what you would expect it to. The bristle brush easily coats your lashes in a black tint and adds volume and length, but not TOO much. I found it to be long-lasting and didn’t have any issues with flakes. If I wasn’t already on mascara overload, I think this would be something I was more enthusiastic about.

Billion Dollar Beauty Sponge – Retail Value $15.00

My last item was a light grey beauty sponge. I don’t need one of these right now but as someone who worries about their cleanliness long term, I always like having a handful on hand to replace the one I am currently using when it gets a little too gunky. You can use these to apply foundation, creams, powders, really anything. My favorite use happens to be using a damp sponge to apply powder highlighter. It creates the most dreamy dewiness!

Verdict: My BoxyCharm box has an overall value of at least $177 which is great for the $25 cost of the box. There were also a few things here that I was totally excited about! First, that Alamar palette. DANG I just love it! Every time I open it I smile. That item alone more than covered the cost of the box, so the fact that I also loved the Huda duo and I get to restock one of my favorite exfoliators is just icing on the cake. The mascara and blending sponge wasn’t super exciting, but both are useful and the other items gave this box more than enough hype for me to feel pretty thrilled with it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this box is still available, but there are variations! These boxes do sell out, so if you love it, hurry.

COUPON: Use code POPUP6NEW08 to get a $6 credit to use in the BoxyPopUp shop!

Value Breakdown: At $25.00 for this box, here is what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Kate Somerville Exfolikate $12.01
  • Alamar Cosmetics Spanglish Palette $3.95
  • Huda Beauty Shadows $3.53
  • Laura Geller Mascara $3.39

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

  1. I’m ready to cancel. I have pink lipstick, I gave my profile info and they still give me PINK! I have enough eye shadow pallettes to last me for 2 years, they gave me Queen or something pallette with colors I don’t wear at all. I threw away those two items.

  2. I’m disappointed that most of the things I want are out of stock. Do they ever come back in stock? I keep checking. I also hope I don’t get the Kaye Somerville, i have had it through another box and I’m not a fan. I can’t wait to see what I get though and I really hope some other things come back in stock. I did end up buying a few other things from the add ons but keeping my eye out for the others .

  3. This might be old news (but it’s new to me since I don’t really follow makeup trends), but I thought I’d mention it anyway…. I read an article that Alamar Cosmetics will be in 200 Target stores and currently has a couple of products online on Target’s site. The roll out is to be timed with Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from 9/15 to 10/15, however from what I sense from the article, the brand is staying in Target beyond that.

  4. Thanks for the code for the $6 off pop-up but it won’t be open till November… Will it still work when it opens?

  5. Omg! I love your box! Alamar Cosmetics has to be one of my favorite brands! I hope I get the palette! I usually get the Alamar products so fingers cross!!

  6. I like this box way better then the boxyluxe I got. I got lotion, hand wash, and hand cream. Only 3 of my 8 products were makeup and one of those being another highlighter ( I get at least one in every box and dont use them). Totally not worth the money when you expect to get makeup and you get 3 items and only 2 you might use. Boxyluxe isn’t cheap, i expected more from them. The regular box was way better this month, im very disappointed in boxycharm right now. Sorry for ranting, just frustrated.

  7. I got face masks, mascara Laura geller, small face palette phase zero, the same eyeshadow palette and the eyecream that I picked.

  8. Oh, I want this palette so bad :(. I am still waiting for my box, but since I picked eye cream, looks like I won’t get this palette.

    • There are definitely variations with the eye cream that have the Spanglish palette! Don’t give up hope!

      • Fingers crossed!!

      • Marion, you gave me hope.

    • I picked the eye cream and got the Spanglish palette. Also got an awful shade of Hank and Henry lipstick, the mascara, and the sponge.

    • I picked the eye cream, and ended up getting the aLamar eye pallette, Laura Geller mascara, BDB charcoal sponge, and a HANK & HENRY LIPSTICK.

  9. Identical box version 80. Only difference was the shade of huda..mine was a light tan.

  10. Great review Megan! So detailed and fun to read.

    • Thank you, Chelsea! I am glad it was a fun one. 🙂

  11. Wow!! This box look awesome!

  12. Nice review!!!!
I am not a big fan of the exfolikate it is very harsh on my skin. I prefer a chemical exfoliator. I just have not been wowed lately with boxy – not feeling the shades in this palette or the Huda lip product. They send out too many shimmers and they just are great for day to day wear. Also too many cheap filler products like that sponge that can be purchased in add ons right now for 3.00. You can actually purchase all these products in add ons currently. I would rather do that and cherry pick what I want than commit to a whole box.

  13. does anyone know if you can get boxycharm again..from another e-mail but same address.i have one but want another..

    • Yes, I do. I get 2 base or 2 luxe & 1 premium every month, 2 different email addresses but same physical address.

      • oh, michelle….thank you so much…oh. i forgot do you get different items in these boxes?..

    • You might or might not get the same items. It’s pure chance.

      • thank you marion…i just wanted to know in case i sub. to this …seems like boxycharm has a lot to choose from..

  14. Love your swatches of the Spanglish palette! The names of the shades are great.

My box was: 9x7x3, 1.1 lbs, variation #45:
    – Farmacy eye cream (choice)
    – Blinc palette
    – Huda liquid shadow in Bubble Bath/Pink Champagne
    – Lavido hand cream
    – Luna brush set

Wish I had gotten Hipdot or Alamar palette, but the Huda shade is great for me. Overall, I’m pretty happy.

    • It is one of the most fun palettes I have gotten in a long while and the formulas are so good! I love the Huda shades you received. Must not.. add to.. cart..
