Scent Box August 2020 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

The information card usually has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side.

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

On to the fragrance:

Agua del Sol by Escada - Estimated Value $6.94 (Buy 3.3 fl oz for $85)

Apparently every year, Escada introduces a limited edition summer fragrance, and this is the one for 2016. I did still find this at full price from some standard (non-discount) retailers, like Belk (listed above, and hey, Belk is where I bought the dress I wore to my courthouse wedding, though it wasn't an actual wedding dress), although it was sold out at others.

Moving on. This is fruity and sweet. It may be one of my favorite Scent Box scents of the month ever. Base notes include tonka bean, sandalwood, and white musk, all of which I think are great. Mid notes include rose, apricot, and fruity notes, but this was not floral on me at all. Top notes include mandarin, sorbet, raspberry, citruses, ice cream, pear, and pink pepper.

Although they're not my top choices, I do really like a lot of sweet, sugary kinds of scents, and this one manages to convey that impression without also being heavy on the flowers. The citrus notes were strongest at the beginning and this came more generically fruity as time went on. The base notes really worked to enhance the sweetness and fruitiness. It was fairly long-lasting but the sillage wasn't super strong. This one is kind of controversial on Fragrantica (but then most fragrances are, people who write reviews on that site are picky).

I rarely care about summer colors, scents, and the like, and wear whatever I want at any old time, but this one kind of screams "summer" to me and I will most likely get more wear out of it next year as it's almost September as I write this. For what it's worth, I kind of like the orange holder, that's a color I don't think we've seen for the holder before.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $6.94. That's on the low side for a value for this box, but last month's came in at over the month-to-month cost, so it can vary and averages out over time. You can load up your queue with expensive fragrances if you are trying to get more value. For me, it's more about finding a fragrance I like and will wear. This one is a little off-season for me, so late in the summer, but I am enjoying it a lot. Although this was limited edition from a few years ago, I never tried it at the time, and since I do like it, I'm happy to get a chance to experience it now. If you are looking to try this one I have heard people say they found it at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I would still like to see a bit more value as $6.94 is less than half the monthly cost of the subscription, but I'm happy to have discovered this scent and may try a few more Escada summer limited edition scents in the next few years.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $6.94 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

Is anyone else having trouble with shipment this month? I normally receive my perfume by the 2nd week of the month but according to their tracking, it hasn’t even shipped yet. I emailed them earlier this week and got no reply so I tried again. I don’t know if the fires in CA delayed shipment but I got my sister a gift subscription with them and she received her perfume with no problem earlier this month. Just wondering if anyone knows anything. I’ve been subscribed since January and I’ve had no problems before now.

I bought this at Marshall’s or maybe it was TJ Maxx. $10 for a 1 oz bottle.

Thank you Ragan for continuing to review this company. Because of you I’ve been with them since January and have found some beautiful new perfumes. My husband was jealous and wanted his own and he has been finding some lovely scents too. FYI- Me and my husband eloped 5 years ago and I found my wedding dress at a second hand store. 😍

I haven’t tried very many Escada scents, but their Le fragrances that lean on the fruity side definitely intrigue me. IIRC, Taj Sunset was one of the fragrances I got during the couple of months I was subbed to Scentbox, & I really liked it.
