Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get 5 full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes for 2020 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Ipsy Glam Bag September 2020 Review

Card Inside for Ipsy Glam Bag September 2020

Included is a card that usually details each of the items but now outlines beauty tips and tricks.

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month's theme is "Good Vibes." I love this bag's texture and color. It gives me strong Letterman jacket vibes from a 90s high school sitcom. Perfect for fall and back to school.

EVIO BEAUTY Rejuvenating Mask, 15 mL - Estimated Value $8.25 (Buy a full-size 40 mL for $22.00)

I am a huge mask fan; sheet masks, peel-off masks, any kind of mask. This Evio Beauty Rejuvenating Mask is so light and refreshing. It applies smoothly and rinses off easily with no oily or sticky residue left behind. The scent is truly high-end spa, in my opinion, a lovely, light, herbaceous scent. Formulated with cannabis Sativa seed oil, hemp, and antioxidants, this 15-minute mask nourishes, hydrates, and rejuvenates, reducing inflammation and healing dry and damaged skin, leaving behind a seriously dewy glow. I have never had the pleasure of trying Evio Beauty prior to receiving this sample and I am very happy to have gotten a chance to experiment with a previously unknown brand to me. It left my skin feeling refreshed, hydrated, and soft after only 15 minutes. I also absolutely love any skincare and beauty products that contain cannabis or hemp. I've seen those natural ingredients work wonders for my skin.

HEMPZ Ultra Moisturizing Herbal Lip Balm, 14 g  - Full Size! Retail Value $8.99 (this item can be purchased here)

I'm so excited! I love the brand Hempz and I never realized they had more than just amazing hand and body lotion. If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with lip care products. After years of ignoring my lips in middle school and high school, I'm now making up for lost time by scrubbing, hydrating, and masking my lips every chance I get. I'm always on the hunt for a bomb lip product, and this Hempz Ultra Moisturizing Herbal Lip Balm is amazing, just like their lotion. This thick and creamy formula is enriched with 100% natural hemp seed oil that works in overdrive to condition, soften, and hydrate the delicate skin of your lips. I'm not the hugest fan of this applicator, but the product feels incredible on my lips and is long-lasting. It applies smoothly and isn't sticky. The scent is a sweet herbal with an emphasis on cannabis.

IT COSMETICS CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ in Tan, 4 mL - Estimated Value $4.94 (Buy a full-size 32 mL for $39.50)

IT Cosmetics is a wonderful brand. I love their Confidence in a Cleanser, their moisturizer, and eye cream. But every time I receive a foundation product in a subscription from them, it is always just a bit too light for my skin tone. I love the feeling of this IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ in Tan. It applies smoothly, is buildable and super light, and leaves your face feeling like skin, but it's just the wrong tone for me. I'm planning to repurpose it as a concealer for my under eyes. I feel like with this formula and this color, it should work perfectly. If you do happen to get this product in your skin tone, I think you'll love it. It is a full-coverage color-correcting cream with anti-aging hydrating serum and added UV and UB SPF 50+ protection. Formulated with collagen, antioxidants, and peptides, this powerhouse CC cream does more than just offer coverage. It moisturizes, conceals dark spots, and fights wrinkles. Let me know if you received "Tan" and if that tone worked for you and what tone you consider your skin. Perhaps I need to adjust my Ipsy profile.

ITEM BEAUTY Brow Chow in Deep Brunette, 26 g - Full Size! Retail Value $14.99 (this item can  be purchased here)

I'm in love! I love thick, dark, beautiful brows on myself, and this Item Beauty Brow Chow in Deep Brunette is the perfect color match for me. The Deep Brunette blends perfectly with my natural eyebrow color, making me look like "I woke up like this." The triangle tip applicator on the pencil is perfect for precise and seamless application to the natural arch of your brow and the real winner here is the adorable, innovative little eyebrow brush on the other end. This little brush is absolutely fabulous and perfect for grooming brows. Formulated without talc, parabens, phthalates, and mineral oil, this little brow pencil is made with love and clean ingredients. Vegan, cruelty-free, and dermatologist tested. This product, I would highly recommend and am going to bookmark myself for repurchase.

BEAU GÂCHIS Illuminator Brush - Full Size! Retail Value $11.95 (this item can be purchased as part of a set here)

This Beau Gâchis Illuminator Brush has firm, densely packed bristles that are super fluffy and soft. The handle is comfortable to hold and easy to grip for precise application of product. There was a little bit of fallout when I used the brush with a powdered highlighter but was perfectly for applying a cream or liquid highlighter and concealer. I like how this brush is a little more compact than others we've received in the past and fits perfectly inside an Ipsy bag, making it ideal for travel and touch-ups on the go. The brush is also socially conscious, which I love, made with synthetic bristles and a wooden handle that is 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-friendly. I have received a lot of brushes from Ipsy in the past and honestly more than I need, but this brush stands out because of the compact nature and ability to fit inside an actual Ipsy Glam Bag, so I'm happy to add this brush to my collection.

Verdict: This month's Ipsy Glam Bag was on point, in my opinion. The star of the show for me was the Item Beauty Brow Chow in Deep Brunette eyebrow pencil, with its ultra-fine triangle tip, amazing little brush, and the perfect color match to my natural brows. I also absolutely loved the Hempz Ultra Moisturizing Herbal Lip Balm. I'm so excited to have gotten to try another product from this incredible brand. The Evio Beauty Skin Rejuvenating Mask was another favorite of mine this month. I love how refreshed and hydrated it made my skin feel after only 15 minutes. The IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ in Tan wasn't the right color match for me, but I love the brand IT Cosmetics and I'm confident the product can be utilized as a concealer for my under eyes. I'm also happy with the Beau Gâchis Cosmetics Brush Illuminator. I loved the soft, fluffy bristles and the compact design that will make it super easy for me to travel with this particular brush. This month had a nice value estimated at $49.12. That is great for a $12 subscription! You absolutely do get your money's worth based on retail value, and if the products are useful to you, you get even more value!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Good to Know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $12 for this box, I calculated a value of $49.12. Here's how that breaks down per item:

  • Mask: $2.02
  • Lip Balm: $2.20
  • CC Cream: $1.21
  • Brow Chow: $3.66
  • Brush: $2.91

Alternatively, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $2.40.

That IT Cosmetics CC cream is soooo good. I got it in the shade “light” in my plus a few months or a year ago and love it so much. I remember when I first used it I was shocked by how smooth it made my skin

Has anyone had repeated problems with missing multiple items in their glam bags? I’m a new member and Sept was my 2nd bag. Two items were missing, the packaging of two items were damaged, and the top of the container inside the box of my pricey add on looked used/scratched. The items I did receive can still be used, but I’m already getting fed up in addition to the fact I just now received my bag, a day AFTER October selections were sent out. Something about that doesn’t sit well with me. Just wondering whether these problems are all outliers or if this is common, I should cancel now.

If you haven’t done so already, contact customer support. They are always incredibly helpful.

I resubbed a few months back and they completely forgot to send my first bag. One of my items was missing this month. Contacted customer service and they will be sending a replacement.

Jen, was the mailer itself damaged in any way, or does it look like it’s been opened? Because honestly the damage you are describing sounds more like somebody in the shipping process stuck their hand in and tried out some products. Just my two cents. 🤷‍♀️

I have never had an issue with missing/damaged items from Ipsy, and I’ve been subbing for over two years now. I know folks who got the July GBP had some issues with not receiving all their items because Ipsy ran out of stock, but they were refunded. Definitely contact Ipsy if you haven’t already. I’ve always had gotten good customer service from them.

I received my first bag (September) and was very disappointed. The zipper broke almost immediately so had to toss bag. I don’t use cosmetics made in China and 2 were in my bag. I liked the CC Cream, the mask and the brush. If October isn’t better, I’m canceling.

Charlotte

If you don’t use cosmetics made in China, I would recommend canceling. Most beauty products in sub boxes are (except the ones geared towards clean/vegan beauty), and Ipsy is no exception.

Thank you! I never had this problem with Sephora Play and looking for new boxes.

I love the lip balm so much. Not the scent, but the formula is incredible and I don’t need to reapply it often.

Very nice review. I still haven’t received my regular bag and the month is almost over. I got my ultimate abs plus but the plain one is still hanging out there. Very annoying

The cc cream is much lighter than the bb cream! Lesson learned the hard way.

I got tan as well. It matched my skin really well. I have tan/Olive picked on my Ipsy profile. I have heard It Cosmetics get criticised for their lack of shade diversity before, So maybe they don’t have shades darker than Tan. It hard to tell from a photo on my phone, but I’d probably say you’re a little darker skinned than I am.
