Cocotique “Irresistibly Sweet LottaBody Takeover” August 2020 Review

Card Front for Cocotique August 2020

This month’s Cocotique box is the “Irresistibly Sweet LottaBody Takeover” edition.

Card Back for Cocotique August 2020

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Bonus Item: Canvas Tote

The box also comes with a reusable tote bag each month. I love this element! I think it is commendable when brands promote less-waste options. I love the saying, “Black Girl Magic is Like Milk and Honey, Irresistibly Sweet.”

LOTTABODY Restore Me Cream Shampoo, 10.1 fl oz – Full Size! Retail Value $5.99

LOTTABODY is a new brand to me. I’m always excited when something I’ve never tried before comes in a subscription. This LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Restore Me Cream Shampoo smells absolutely wonderful. It is a unique, fresh, yet subtly sweet scent that is strong but not overbearing. Enriched with wholesome milk protein and honey, this nourishing formula restores moisture and softens while treating dry and rough hair. This shampoo works up into a nice creamy lather that cleanses and breaks down product build-up. I love that this shampoo has no sulfates or other damaging ingredients. I used it to gently cleanse the roots of my hair while wearing a protective style. It definitely got rid of quite a bit of product build-up at the top of my locs, while leaving my roots feeling hydrated.

LOTTABODY Restore Me Cream Conditioner, 10.1 fl oz – Full Size! Retail Value $4.99

This LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Restore Me Cream Conditioner is a perfect companion to the LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Restore Me Cream Shampoo. This delicious smelling, rich conditioner works alongside the shampoo to condition, restore moisture, and repair hair. One of my favorite things about the Cocotique box is that they send full hair care systems, and I’m absolutely thrilled to have received this matching shampoo and conditioner to try. It left my scalp feeling soothed and hydrated, and I can’t express how much love I have for this scent. I love anything made with honey and this is the first hair care product line that I’ve tried that incorporates the superfood!

LOTTABODY Elongate Me Curl Stretcher, 10.1 fl oz – Full Size! Retail Value $4.99

Another great product in this new LOTTABODY Milk & Honey haircare line is the Elongate Me Curl Stretcher. It has a nourishing formula, enriched with milk protein and honey, like both the conditioner and the shampoo, with the added benefits of frizz control, moisture lock, and anti-shrinkage. I currently have my hair in a protective style but I tested this out on my little brother; he has thick 4C hair in an adorable (don’t tell him I said that) afro. The Elongate Me Curl Stretcher extended his ‘fro quite a bit while reducing the amount of frizz he usually has on humid days. I think he liked it as well. His response was, “That’s cool,” followed by, “The smell is more a ‘you’ thing.” I’m definitely going to tuck this product away for next month when I take my locs out.

LOTTABODY Boost Me Curl Boosting Smoothie, 5.1 fl oz – Full Size! Retail Value $4.99

I love curl enhancing smoothies, especially those that don’t dry crunchy. You know what I mean… When you put on that third product in your wash-and-go styles and it makes each of your curls hard and flakes off into a white dust that makes everyone think you have a dandruffy scalp; no bueno. This LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Boost Me Curl Boosting Smoothie definitely impressed me. This isn’t usually a product I would put in my brother’s hair, but for the sake of trying it out and since he was being such a great sport, I put this on after the Elongate Me Curl Stretcher. It gave his hair a healthy looking shine, smoothed down any stubborn frizz, and provided a great medium hold without drying out into crusty looking white flakes. The main thing that caught my eye was the shine it added to his hair. When I have my hair out in curls, there’s a tendency for the hair closer to the crown of my head to look much drier and duller than the rest. I think this product is definitely going to help with that, and I’m excited to use it myself in the near future!

LOTTABODY Hold Me Maximum Hold Styling Gel, 8.4 fl oz – Full Size! Retail Value $4.99

I don’t normally use gel when I wear my hair curly, but when I’m rockin’ a protective style, I like to smooth down my edges with a little gel for more natural-looking frizz control. I simply applied a little bit of this LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Hold Me Maximum Hold Styling Gel to my dampened edges that usually frizz up right in the front of my head. It smoothed them down, leaving behind a very natural-looking hold. It lasted pretty much all day until much later in the evening. I didn’t notice any drying or crusty looking flakes. An added benefit is also the milk and honey enriched formula that provides nourishing moisture and shine while maintaining the desired style. I can definitely see this product enhancing and defining my curls in the future for a long-lasting style that keeps hair back from my face.

TELETIES Hair Tie Large & Small Sizes, Retail Value $3.33 (L) / $2.66 (S) (Buy full-size pack of 3 for $9.99 (L) / $7.99 (S))

I’ve always wanted to try these cool looking curly telephone wire hair ties. I did receive another brand in a subscription box once, but unfortunately, they could not contain my hair. These Teleties Hair Ties, specifically in the Large, did a surprisingly good job. All of my locs were not able to fit in the hair tie at once, but I was able to do an adorable little top bun look and the tie firmly held my hair in place with only one loop around and didn’t overstretch or snap. I definitely call that a win. When I removed the hair tie, it didn’t get stuck or tangled in the locs and only one little hair got stuck in the loop; that is a MAJOR win for me. The smaller size, I was able to use for a little teeny tiny top bun and it worked just like the large, except the style looked absolutely ridiculous on my Blowpop-sized head, so I probably won’t ever wear that in public. But I definitely would like to purchase a set of the Large hair ties to minimize tearing and hair breakage that go along with traditional hair ties.

PALMER’S Coconut Oil Formula Coconut Oil Body Lotion, 13.5 oz – Full Size! Retail Value $6.95

I absolutely LOVE the brand Palmer’s! They are economically priced and all the products are quality and also formulated with ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients. I’ve received several Palmer’s products in past Cocotique boxes. This Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Coconut Oil Body Lotion has skyrocketed to the top of my faves list. I’m a huge fan of coconut oil in general; seriously, I have a tub of it and I use it for everything. But this body lotion has the added benefits of vitamin E oil, monoï oil, and sweet almond oil, creating a luxuriously rich formula that leaves your skin feeling gloriously hydrated. There is no icky greasy feeling or chemical smell. Another thing that I absolutely love is the pump applicator. I hate getting out of the shower and having to uncap a bottle or tube of lotion with damp hands. This pump works great and makes moisturizing easy. This product smells absolutely divine: a light, naturally coconut-scented smell that absorbs quickly into your skin, leaving behind the essence of the tropics.

KNEIPP Mineral Bath Salt “Joint & Muscle,”  1 sachet – Retail Value $4.00 (Buy full-size 17.63 fl oz for $20.00)

I tried this KNEIPP Mineral Bath Salt “Joint & Muscle.” I’m not a “soak in the tub” type of person, but I do love a nice, hot foot bath every now and then, so I decided to give these bath salts a try since a foot bath is basically a bath but for only your feet. The main draw of this product for me was the added benefit of soothing joints and muscles. Back in high school, I broke my foot in dance and ever since then, I’ve had issues with swelling and calcification build-up that can leave me feeling achy and sore on some days. I have to say, this bath salt was wonderfully soothing with a relaxing, subtle spa-like scent and it turned the water a beautiful light golden color that definitely added to the serene experience. I was surprised to notice a duller ache in my foot and I’m strongly considering purchasing this product at full size, specifically for the purpose of soaking said foot.

The Verdict: I think August 2020’s Cocotique box had some great products! My absolute favorite, surprisingly for someone who doesn’t take baths, is the bath salt. Kneipp always makes amazing, high-quality products, and this “Joint & Muscle”Mineral Bath Salt, in my opinion, is even better than advertised. I’m a huge fan of the Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Coconut Oil Body Lotion. It smells absolutely wonderful, is incredibly moisturizing, and quick absorbing on the skin. I also really enjoyed the LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Shampoo and Conditioner. The scent is great and the products are hydrating and softening as advertised. I’m excited to try the LOTTABODY Milk & Honey Elongate Me Curl Stretcher and Boost Me Curl Boosting Smoothie, and I loved how the Hold Me Maximum Hold Styling Gel controlled my wispy baby hairs without crunchy hardening or flaking. I was intrigued and pleasantly surprised with the Teleties Hair Tie. I love how they don’t stretch out, snap, or rip out hair when removed. I like the Large but I’m also hoping this company comes out with an extra, extra large for us full hair headed people. The only downside I can see with this month’s box is the retail value. The estimated total value of this box is $42.89. Now, I love how this box sends skincare, body care, and haircare. I think the variety is great. It’s convenient to receive everything you need for your skin, body, and haircare delivered right to your front door. But the retail value this month is quite a bit lower than in the past. Purchasing this box for $25 per month, I could see how subscribers would expect a higher price point.

To Wrap Up:

Can I get this box if I sign up today? No, but if you subscribe by 8/30, you can receive the September box. One-time boxes are usually available in the Cocotique shop for $25.00 here.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 and has a total retail value of $42.89 Here’s how that breaks down per item:

  • Shampoo – $3.49
  • Conditioner – $2.91
  • Curl Stretcher – $2.91
  • Curl Boosting Smoothie – $2.91
  • Styling Gel – $2.91
  • Hair Ties – $3.49
  • Body Lotion – $4.05
  • Bath Salt – $2.33

Alternatively, you’re paying about $3.13 for each of the 8 items.

I’m a sheet mask loving, skincare obsessed, animal loving foodie. If I’m not waiting for the mailman to bring me some new subscription box, I’m probably working out, writing, or getting cursed out by my parrot. P.S. He was a rescue; I didn’t teach him that.

  1. I re-subbed to this box for 3 months after having seen a 25% off code, and this box was my first one in probably 2.5 years and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a Lotta Body takeover box (I think I saw that in an earlier spoiler but forgot). I also love how they include a full hair care regime, and liked the other non-hair products. My card was a little different, and while I did receive a Palmers variant (a body oil) I received a wash off face mask instead of a Kneipps product (which suited me better). I love the variety of products Cocotique typically includes, and I can’t wait to see what’s in my next two boxes. 🙂

    • Right! I have been loving this box and this months spoilers look great👏👏👏
