The Box By Fashionsta July 2020 Review

The Box By Fashionsta comes with a simple info card that gives a short description of each included product with their retail value.

Sungazing Eyeshadow Palette by The Beauty Crop - Retail Value $24.50

I genuinely love receiving eyeshadow palettes! I know some people feel like it has become a bit less exciting since they tend to come in a lot of beauty boxes, but I love doing my eye makeup so options are key for me. Plus, if it is a color palette that you aren't loving, it makes a great gift! I really loved researching this brand as well! This palette is formulated without talc, enriched with jojoba and coconut oil, certified cruelty-free and vegan, and is made without parabens or mineral oil. This palette was inspired by the sun so you can use each shade on its own or layer any of the 12 colors together to light, dark, or add some sparkle! I found that most of the shades go on so well with a ton of coverage and hardly any fallout, plus they all blend so nicely together if I want a bit of a bold look. I have been using either Heat, Phoenix, or Sunny most days since I received this palette; they are so bright and bold for the summer. Some of the more orange tones like Bright didn't blend as nicely as the darker tones though; I really had to work to get it to blend for solid coverage. All in all, I am completely obsessed with this palette and know that it will take me from summer into the fall nicely!

Moonshine by Moonslice Beauty, 24 mL - Retail Value $25.00

I absolutely love facial oils and use them in my AM and PM skincare routine since my skin is so dry. Receiving a new oil is always super exciting for me so I was interested in giving this brand a go! Moonshine is a super-fruit oil and is 100% free of silicones, fillers, dyes, and synthetic fragrance. Some of the main ingredients include avocado oil, passionfruit oil, squalane oil, watermelon oil, monk fruit seed oil. This oil is meant to soften, smooth, brighten, and moisturize your skin. You can use this at night, in the morning as a primer before applying your makeup, or you can even mix 1-2 drops into your foundation. I really wanted to love this oil, but compared to some other oils that I have been using, I just did not love this one. The scent was super fruity and overpowering for me personally. I didn't feel deep hydration after using this a few times and didn't notice a glow that I usually see from other oils after applying my foundation. I also didn't love that there wasn't a dropper to dispense the oil, it was sort of just a stick that the oil drips from so I didn't think the application was as easy as other oils. Since I wasn't in love with this blend, I passed it along to my neighbor who loved the smell and has been noticing a huge difference in her skin since using (she is new to facial oils so I was super happy to share with her)!

Eyebright Coffee Bean Eye Cream by Fig + Yarrow⁣⁣, 0.5 fl oz. - Retail Value $36.00

I will be 33 next month, and suddenly this summer (or maybe since March when stress really kicked in) I've noticed a ton of crows feet around my eyes. I do think areas like that can be hereditary to a point, my Dad and all of his siblings have the same "laugh lines" around their eyes, but I can say that I want to combat those areas early now that I am starting to notice them more. Eye cream is key to keeping those lines away so I was excited to try this product! This cream is made with coffee bean, eyebright, guarana berry, licorice root, rapeseed oil, flaxseed oil, ubiquinone, apple, green tea leaf, carrot root, sea buckthorn, and shea butter. Each ingredient is formulated to renew and protect the sensitive area around your eyes while working to combat fine lines and wrinkles. All you have to do is dab a small amount under and around your eyes. They suggest using very gentle patting motions to apply. I have been using this cream every night and I love how lightweight it is while leaving my skin feeling super hydrated. There isn't much of a scent, which I love, and my skin just drinks it right in! I can't say that I have noticed any huge results just yet, but I have only been using it for a few days now.

The Ultimate Multi-Use Creme in Pretty Baby by Habit, 5.5 g - Retail Value $28.00

This creme is made with moringa oil which makes it super rich and hydrating! It can be used on your lips, eyes, or cheeks and is certified vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. I received the Pretty Baby color which is more of a pink-beige tone. I didn't find that I was able to get much of a buildable color when I used it on my lips; it really looked nude instead of pink, but it left my lips feeling super hydrated and shiny! However, when I used this on my cheeks, I was really able to build a light or deeper tone depending on how much I used or how gently I applied. In the photo above you can see more of a natural look that I did with a light application for a day at the pool! I am loving the lightweight creamy texture that I can get with this, especially on my cheeks, and am loving the intense hydration I get on my lips while still adding a bit of color.

Solid Block Mineral Sunscreen by We Are Wild, 23 g - Retail Value $26.00

My family is out in the sun a lot so I like to have sunscreen in all locations from my diaper bag, pool bag, backyard, you name it. I am always excited about sunscreen if I know it will work! This little roll-on is super convenient and easy to apply all over your face quickly. Plus it smells incredible with a hint of lavender! It is a balm so it goes on clear without any of that yucky thick white that you get from usual sunscreen. This is light and absorbs super fast while leaving me feeling hydrated and not sticky (a huge plus). Plus this block is free from chemical screens like oxybenzone, zinc oxide, and is made from 100% non-nano mineral which won't harm the earth nor disrupt your hormones. The top ingredients in this block are non-psychoactive cannabis sativa seed oil (hemp seed oil), octyldodecanol, coco-caprylate/caprate, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, dibutyl lauroyl glutamine, titanium dioxide (non-nano), zinc oxide (non-nano), and disostearyl malate.

Airsponge Full Coverage by Base blue - Listed Value $8.00, Retail Value $7.85

Ok, I am obsessed with this sponge! I have always sort of stuck with the same sponge over the years because I get a new one each time I get my foundation (it all comes together), and I always just thought that sponge was great. Until now! This is a full coverage sponge so I get a really nice handle on it and I can pat as much or as little of my foundation into it as needed that day. You can buff and blend, blend, blend to get just that right amount of coverage. Plus, it gets into all of those little spaces, like around my eyes, that I tend to feel like I never get the right amount on. The price seems a tad bit high for a sponge, but I can honestly say that I notice a huge difference in my makeup application with this compared to my old one. So I just might have to purchase more of these to stockpile!

Verdict: The Box By Fashionsta is back after a quick break in July and filled with some amazing products! I love doing my eye makeup so I am that person that can never have enough eyeshadow palettes in my life. This month's palette was inspired by the sun and matches so well with my skin tone and gives me an easy daytime look or some funky glitter if I want. I know that this is going to stay in my top five of palettes for a while! The Airsponge seems so simple, but it has really changed the way I apply my foundation! Who knew that a simple switch could bring me so much joy and such better application and coverage?! I am loving the eye cream and hoping for some results in the next few months, and am loving the convenience of the sunblock stick (not to mention it smells amazing and leaves me feeling hydrated and not greasy). While I really wanted to love the Moonshine facial oil, it just could not compare to some of my other facial oils, but I was able to pass it along to a neighbor that is now starting her facial oil journey. This box has a retail value of $147.35 which is incredible for a $24.99 box. I missed this box in June, but I love that they came back strong with some amazing products and brands that were so interesting to read more about! This really is the ultimate beauty box for me personally, giving me what I want and what I didn't even know I needed!

I liked this subscription but I found myself not using 85% of the products or giving them away to family. I don’t use a lot of Indie brands because a lot of those products tend to be out of the norm for me. Like the spoilers for August and the palettes are also have not been good quality here. So I decided to cancel and have not regretted it. If you’re solely subscribed for indie and value, you’ll love it but I wanted to get use of my items and I wasn’t getting that.

LOL that made me laugh about the oil “dropper”. Maybe you could update the review to reflect that it’s a spray? Thank you for a very thorough review of one of my favorite boxes!

Looks like a really good box. I kinda want to order even though I’m on product overload. I just wish these palettes weren’t always made in China. And that they would just make them in Europe or US where we have stringent quality control and human rights control.

My post disappeared again, like do I have a reputation of being a naughty girl or what?

Oh Baby! Pull the lid honey! Hon, I did the same thing, then I watched just-Anne on YouTube girl did the same thing, but figured it out! So, I was able to get my lid off.
I adored the Pallet and loved almost everything. I liked the oil as well. Yet I can see how the scent could overpower.
This is by far my only and favorite box.

Great review, you made me REALLY want this box! I might just call to find out if they still have it in stock because it truly does sound like my dream box. I’ll even love the oil because the scent sounds right up my alley.

Thanks for the detailed, in-depth review Taryn, it was great! You definitely sold me on it. 🙂

I just got my first box and I really do like it. The oil smells amazing. This box is perfect and could easily be dubbed the “perfect summer” box as it has all of the basics for summer. The Palette is absolutely gorgeous, the sunscreen goes on easily, the eye cream absorbs well and so light in texture.

It is a nice balance of skincare and makeup, leaning a bit heavier on the skincare side. I tend to like makeup more. I just like to play with different shades and vary my looks.

The fact that everything is free of all the “junk” you don’t need is the icing on the cake. It is a box that is none of the frills but it’s just a great box.

I was able to start a subscription with the July box – I’m SO excited! The customer service over at Fashionsta is excellent.

This box is such a crazy good deal: 5-6 full sized products for only $25, where sadly Beautyfix (which I just cancelled after being a long-time customer) is now regularly sending out 6 teeny sample-sized products for the same price.

Anyway, my box is already processed and shipped so I should have it soon. I’m looking forward to, and will use, 100% of the items included.

Thanks again Taryn, I feel like your awesome review was the push I needed to subscribe.

Just wanted to let you know the oil is actually not a dropper or stick, it’s a spray. I seen another review mention the thought it was a stick but if you twist the cap the opposite of when you pull the stick out you will see the cap comes off to reveal a spray nozzle.

That said, I do agree on the smell. I couldn’t use in my face due to this but I have found that it makes for a decent bath/shower oil.

OMG I didn’t even realize that! I am not taking the image photos so I totally missed that (Mom brain). I asked my neighbor who I gave this to and she totally laughed at me saying its a spray (so she figured it out). Even so, I don’t think I would have kept it just based on the smell and functionality.

And, you can clearly see the spray nozzle in the picture you provided!

LMAO!! Sort of just a stick! Sorry Taryn, but that’s funny!
