Boxwalla Beauty Box August 2020 Review

Here's a double-sided info card highlighting everything that arrived this month. There are three items inside to explore, so let's dive in!

Lovinah Skincare Dragon Blood Cleansing Oil, 2 oz - Retail Value $55.00

How pretty is this cleanser? It arrived in a beautiful frosted glass bottle with a luxe gold cap. Of course, I immediately had to sniff this stuff! It has a slightly off-putting scent that is tangy and tart. I don't know that everyone will like it, but it smells a lot better when you are emulsifying it with water and rubbing it onto your face! Trust me. Inside this cleanser is a double-encapsulated salicylic acid that is great for both acne-prone skin AND drier aging skin because salicylic acid is a wonderful promoter of cell turnover, collagen production, and it also gently exfoliates. The other big ingredient callouts inside include a vitamin C ester, milk thistle, and loads of fatty oils with antioxidants. Because this cleanser has so many good things inside, I prefer to leave it on for a few minutes before I rinse it off. I like to take a pump or two, cover my face with a gentle massage, wait about 3 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. It leaves my face feeling clean but also highly hydrated.

Votary Super Seed Serum with Broccoli Seeds and Peptides, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $118.00

Votary is one of my fave brands! They have some of the most incredible oils (more on that later). Their Super Seed Nutrient Cream is one of my guilty pleasures when my face is acting up or after a peel. This serum is full of some of my favorites: green tea extract for antioxidants, salicylic acid for acne and fine lines, grapeseed oil, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and more! It almost feels more like a light moisturizer on my skin, so if you have oilier skin, you could totally get away with this as a moisturizer and serum in one. I personally need to layer something heavier on top because my skin is as dry as a new dish sponge. The Super Seed line from Votary doesn't have a real fragrance but does have a creamy and natural smell.

Votary Intense Night Oil, 15 mL - Estimated Value $58.80 (Buy 50 mL for $196.00)

Heck yeah! Bathe me in Votary oils. My current fave is by far their Jasmine and Calendula blend, but this night oil might be on another level. Inside this tiny bottle is a mix of grapeseed, apricot, avocado, rosehip, sunflower, sandalwood, and tomato seed oils. All of these bring nourishing lipids and antioxidants to your skin. There is also retinoid and vitamin E inside to help hydrate even further and reduce fine lines. This oil has become a weekend ritual for me where I combine it with my jade gua sha and just massage my face into total relaxation. This blend does have a soft rosy scent from the essential oils inside.

Also included with our incredible Votary products was a booklet explaining more about their brand and other products offered.

Verdict: This Boxwalla Beauty box just proved why I love this subscription so much. The products inside are always unusual and dreamy! The cleanser was unlike anything I had tried before in terms of versatility and the scent and ingredients. It feels very special to use this stuff. The Votary products went into heavy rotation immediately because I just love this brand and my skin really seems to adore their formulas, too. This box is always a great value too: for $49.95 there was a $231.80 total inside. This is certainly more of a quality over quantity sort of box that you can still always count on for a great value. If you are into smaller-brand and high-quality skincare, totally try this one. I have yet to be disappointed.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! But they sell out fast.

Value Breakdown: At $49.95 for this box, here's how much you'll pay for each item:

  • Lovina Cleanser $11.85
  • Votary Serum $25.43
  • Votary Night Oil $12.67

Alternatively, each of the 3 items has an average cost of $16.65.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Carmen

FYI, Boxwalla restocked the August box but they exchanged the travel sized retinol with the night oil.

Looks like it’s sold out again! (Darn it, I waited too long….)

Update: it’s back now, even though it was *definitely* showing as “sold out” earlier today. Maybe the site glitched? Anyway, didn’t want to discourage anyone from getting the box!

Carmen

sorry I mixed that up, the night oil is replaced with the super seed oil…

Megan, I can’t wait to get these lovely products. I gifted another Votary brand sub box to a friend who really needed a pick up and had heard rave reviews from Caroline Hirons. But this luscious box is all mine! I’m super excited about all of the products. I love oils for my prone to oily skin and the 15 ml size is perfect. You make these products so tantalizing it will be hard not to interrupt my current Bleu Alchemy routine.. thank you for the review.

Hi Tanya! Speaking of Caroline Hirons, I don’t know if you saw yet, but her Summer box will be coming out on 8/14 with a full reveal on 8/13. Let the madness begin!!! 😀

Luna

Hi Brooke! She has a post on her Instagram. It’s the one with her smiling into the camera 🙂

Brooke

Hi Luna! Where do I find information on Caroline Hirons boxes?

Luna

She’s already added some info on the kits in case you’d like to check it out. 🙂

Tanya M

Woohoo. At least I can get one of Caroline’s kits but I can’t get a Trendmood box to save a life. Speaking of her kits, I have fallen in love with Pestle & Mortar Recover Eye Cream and I use in combo with the Lil fox eye serum at night and for a couple of nights just Dr. Gross eye serum to keep my dark circles at bay.. lol.. I”m super excited to see what the spoilers will be! Glad you mentioned, I just checked and for some reason, she’s been going to my junk mail. I can’t have that… lol

Luna

Hi Megan! Since you’re a huge fan of Votary’s products, I thought I’d mention that Mintd is going to be having a Mintd x Votary box soon! I’m guessing it’s going to be their September box, and they’re going to treat it like all other takeover boxes they’ve featured where if you want it for the sub price you’ll have to sub to August’s box, otherwise it’ll be marked up ~30% as one-time box. Just thought i’d mention in case you’d like to get it and review it for us, lol. 😉

Luna

Ooops! Never mind! I just saw that MSA posted about the Mintd box, lol! I’m just starting to work my way down today’s new posts 🙂

Carrie

I’m tempted too!! But I really want to know what’s inside first!

Megan K.

I read that this morning and I am SO TEMPTED. Let me see if we can get our hands on this one. And, as always, thanks for the heads up!

Break

I want this box so badly but I have so many serums and night oils in my backlog 😢 I do need another oil cleanser so maybe I can justify it LOL

Tanya M.

Break, you budget may be safe.. I just went on Boxwalla site to order a book sub and the Lovinah Skincare limited box and it says the August box is out of stock. But check for yourself, I may have misread.

Hope all got that wanted August Boxwalla box, I happy to have gotten the box. I have the nerve to want the Mintd, a Caroline Hirons summer kt and the Trendmood Tatcha box ( which I have no chance of getting)… lol. Oh what fun …

Anna

Boxwalla beauty is still available for August through the 10th.
