Lillypost June 2020 "Insects" Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Insects" and they had a fun counting bugs activity!

First Animal Facts: Garden by Rainstorm Publishing - Retail Value $7.99

Our board book this month was really cute and very educational! It was all about animals you can find in the garden. Each page featured a different animal and told us a few facts about them like what they ate or what a baby version of the animal was called. My older kids already knew most of the information, but they still enjoyed it and while my youngest (age 2) may be just a bit young for the concept, I can see him being very into this book in the next few months. I loved all of the cute illustrations and fun critters they featured!

Hey, Coach! by Linda Ashman - Retail Value $17.99

This book was so cute and fun! I feel like it would make the perfect gift for a soccer (or any youth sports) coach! My husband has coached soccer for years, so this was one I was excited to share with him. It highlights all of the fun parts of having young children play sports from aiming the wrong direction, complaining about their uniform, to having to use the bathroom at the worst time! This one had rhyming text and action-packed illustrations for the kids, but there were some great subtle facial expressions and details that parents will especially enjoy. This book was definitely our favorite this month and one that I plan on sharing with others because it's that good!

Codzilla by David Zeltser - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $12.39)

This last book was cute, but also a bit strange. My kids and I loved the play on words with poor Bertie, the very large cod, being called Codzilla, although Bertie didn't take it so well and decided to eat his bully. Soon he has eaten several people who have been mean to him and when they begin to run out of space in his stomach and ask him to let them out, he manages to sneeze them right out. He apologizes, but now he is left out more than ever until his large size allows him to save his classmates from a hungry shark (by eating them temporarily, strangely enough). This was a silly book with funny illustrations, but I just don't know if I enjoyed the plot or lesson in this one so much. This one may require another read through before we decide how we feel about it!

Verdict: While I'm not sure how I feel about Codzilla, the other two Lillypost books we received were well worth the subscription this month! The animal book was just the right mix of education and cuteness to appeal to my kiddos and the coach book was one that our family could relate to. We really enjoyed it a lot and it feels like one of those hidden gems that we may not have discovered on our own. The mixed book option always ensures that we get such a well-rounded group of books each month! The total retail value of our books came to $43.97 ($38.37 with sale prices) which is great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box with such fun books!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the July box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
