BomiBag June 2020 Review

There was no information card included in the package. I found more about the bag contents here.

Wellage Real Hyaluronic Bio Capsule and Blue Solution One Day Kit – Retail Value $8.90 (found here for $3.56)

I had never seen one of these before and then we got two in the same package (different brands, but very similar products). There are two parts here, one is a little ball in a small plastic cup and the other is an ampoule you break the top off. Then you pour the liquid from the ampoule into the little plastic cup and mix. You don’t have to use all the liquid, which is good, because I messed up opening the ampoule and spilled half the liquid, but the product still worked, it was just kind of thick. The idea here is that most hyaluronic acid products have a low concentration because the solutions are not stable, so by mixing and using right away, you can get a more concentrated amount of hyaluronic acid for a stronger effect. This did absorb into the skin well and didn’t leave a film or sheen on my face (I did it at night and it wasn’t even a problem the next morning). I would love to try a product like this in the winter, though. My skin is anything but dry right now!

GD11 Cell Factory Power Aqua Ampoule

I can’t find this for sale online. I can find some other products from this company that have similar names, but don’t look the same at all in terms of the packaging, which is very similar to the previous item. (BomiBag’s site indicates this is a new item, though.) This is another one where you put the liquid on the little ball and let the little ball dissolve and use it as a moisturizer. I used more liquid in this one than with the previous one and so the solution was thinner. (Unfortunately I can’t say much about the ingredients because they are almost all in Korean on the BomiBag site.) Cell Factory in general apparently uses media in some way related to, containing, or derived from human umbilical cord blood, which is honestly kind of gross, in my opinion, so I guess it’s better that I didn’t know that until after I used the product? This is another super moisturizing product that didn’t leave a film on my face, even overnight.

TONYMOLY Clean Dew Foam Cleanser, Lemon (180 mL) – Retail Value $7.50

I have said it before and I’ll say it again, but if you subscribe to BomiBag, you will have a very clean face. They send cleansers almost monthly and sometimes more than one. On the plus side, I am not being very consistent about skincare during lockdown but I am always washing my face, so cleansers get used consistently, several times per day, and I have not had to buy any. This does foam nicely and if I was wearing makeup I’d use it as step two in a dual cleansing routine but as it is, I am just using it as a regular face wash. The scent isn’t too strong, either.

Laneige Multi Deep-Clean Cleanser (30 mL) – Estimated Value $4.60 (Buy 150 mL for $23)

Here is our second cleanser for the month. This one is a bit smaller so I’ve put it in the shower, where I just finished off another cleanser. This one also foams very well. It has a slightly masculine scent that is a bit stronger than the previous product, but I’ve been using it for a few days now and it hasn’t irritated my skin at all. This apparently has cellulose beads for gentle exfoliation, as well as papain (a papaya enzyme) for gentle chemical exfoliation.

Some By Mi Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum Mask – Retail Value $3.90 (found here for $3.51)

You’ll usually get a couple of sheet masks in BomiBag. Here is the first one. This was a new brand for me. This is vegan, which is unusual for K-beauty products although I’m seeing it a little more often these days. This has some vitamins and antioxidants so it should help prevent premature skin aging from UV exposure and free radicals, but would have to be used consistently over time and be coupled with a good SPF in order to comment on its abilities in that regard. It’s also hard to evaluate the blemish care aspect after only one use although my skin has been a little bit broken out lately (probably hormonal?) and I think maybe it helped a little.

Mediheal Collagen Impact Essential Mask – Retail Value $3.50 (found here for $1.75)

Here is the second mask for the month. This one was a little irritating. I couldn’t get it unfolded properly. Like, I would get one part unfolded and then some other part would fold over. When I finally put it on my face, a big portion of the cheek/chin was folded over, so I took it off to fix that and then it wouldn’t stay on my face very well after that. Anyway. This has marine collagen which is supposed to help with skin elasticity and moisture. The moisture effect is definitely there — the serum from this one took a rather long time to dry once the mask was removed — but it’s difficult for me to assess skin elasticity as I don’t really think I have a problem with that yet? Also it would probably require more than one use. (For what it’s worth, marine collagen is most likely from fish skin or some other fish processing byproduct and is too big to penetrate the skin but may hold water near the surface of the skin for a plumper look to the skin.)

Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for the June BomiBag because I couldn’t find one of the items for sale online. The other items together add up to $28.40, which is more than $7 greater than the month-to-month cost of the subscription, so you are getting your money’s worth. I learned about a new type of product, the little ampoule and ball-in-cup mixtures, and it was kind of fun to try and compare two different ones. Cleansers are practical and both of these masks were new to me as well, so I was happy, overall.
