BoxyCharm June 2020 Review

Happy to see an included info card this month. My variation is #42.

Let's see what I received!

Touch in Sol 'Fill Up Orange' Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $32.00

I have tried some skincare and a really awesome lipstick from this brand and I liked both! I was initially hesitant about this palette though, because while I can pull off warmer shades, some of these looked really orange. Despite the really loud electric glitter, most of these shades actually feel quite neutral. All of the shimmers were very pretty and super soft, and the only 'meh' shades in terms of formula were two of the mattes (Tart and Affogato). Milk Foam is a really lovely under-brow shade and But First, Café is so flattering. The glitter is really a wow look and I find it feels pretty soft compared to how it looks and the blend of orange and electric yellow is unique and bold.

Top to bottom: Milk Foam, Espresso, Tart, and But First, Café

Top to bottom: Chai-ful, Study Break, Affogato, Brown Sugar, and Caution Hot

Laura Geller Multitasking Eye, Lip, Cheek Palette Cream to Powder Trio in Shades of Nudes - Retail Value $24.00

I have been loving cream formulas lately and this trio is a mix of blush, bronzer, and highlighter. While the bronzer feels a little too warm+red for me to use as a bronzer or contour shade, it will be really pretty on warmer skin tones and I think it makes a nice cream eyeshadow either way. The blush and highlighter I had much better luck with. The blush is a peachy pink with a very soft golden glow and the highlighter is a shimmering soft champagne that also looks great on lids. Longevity was fine but not outrageous. I find that sometimes this humidity can either melt cream formulas or enhance their dewiness, but these were strong enough to hang in there for about 5 hours before I noticed them looking a little tired.

Top to bottom: Tuscan Coral, Coconut Grove, and Gold Dust

Lilly Lashes Triple X Mascara, 8.8 g - Retail Value $24.00

This mascara was drama! I usually prefer more natural mascaras but this is a great formula if you want length and loads of volume. It took a little bit to completely dry, but nothing major. I also noticed that it is better to get all you want on in one coat, as the second tends to get a little clumpy. The brush is on the larger side, which makes it a little touchy to grab the lashes in the corners of your eye, but I think overall, a lot of people will really like this mascara, myself included!

KAB Cosmetics Charming Lip Set, 6 g and 1.2 g - Retail Value $38.00

This is a new brand to me, and apparently it was founded by Kim Biermann and her two daughters. I don't watch the Real Housewives of Atlanta, but I guess she was one of the originals. I am often skeptical when it comes to 'celebrity' lines unless I really love the celebrity and want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I have to admit that I really like this gloss. The tube itself is almost comically large and the doe-foot also feels huge, but in a good way. The shade is a super flattering pink/rose shade that I think will look really nice on a lot of people. The texture is very smooth and it has a slightly sweet scent. The liner felt like the exact same shade and (for me) didn't have great longevity, so it was a bit of a bust. It did work better as a shade used on my entire lip. Mixed feelings here, but weirdly into the gloss.

A really great shade.

First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub with 10% AHA, 4 oz - Estimated Value $14.00 (Buy 8 oz for $28.00)

Our last item is a body scrub that is ideal for those who suffer from Keratosis Pilaris but also just a really awesome exfoliator for anyone, especially if you have sensitive skin. Inside there are tiny beads of pumice and AHA, both of which exfoliate together to improve skin texture. I tend to be really bad about exfoliating regularly because many scrubs feel too harsh unless I use them just on my bum and thighs. This one was gentle enough to use on my neck, arms, and very sensitive calves, but this should never be used on your face. This is certainly a product I would consider purchasing in the future. My skin felt great!

Verdict: My BoxyCharm box has an overall value of $132.00 which is very good for a $25 box. Compared to last month, I am pretty happy with this assortment. The Touch in Sol palette has a lot of great colors that I like and the Laura Geller palette is nice for a soft summer glow. The mascara was a hit for me as well as the body scrub, which I loved. The jury is still out on the KAB set, but I have to admit that I have worn this lip gloss a lot since opening this box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this box is still available, but there are variations! These boxes do sell out, so if you love it, hurry.

Value Breakdown: At $25.00 for this box, here is approximately what you are paying per product:

  • Touch in Sol Palette $6.06
  • Laura Geller Palette $4.55
  • Lilly Lashes Mascara $4.55
  • KAB Cosmetics Lip Duo $7.20
  • First Aid Beauty Body Scrub $2.65

Alternatively, the average cost of each of the 5 items is $5.00.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Yes, i think so too. Plus, i dont think any new subscribers would get this. I had a friend sign up for May’s box. They are a new subscriber. They did not get any of the advertised stufff. They got stuff from the past since they are new to boxycharm.

I like that palette and might pick it up if I see it cheap on a resale site.

Is anyone still waiting on their June base box to ship? My premium and add ons already arrived. Boxycharm sent an email saying “We’re eager to get your Boxy to you, and would like to update you that you should receive your tracking email by Tuesday, June 23. With social distancing protocols in place across our production and shipping partners, we hope you understand that it’s taking us a bit longer to pack and ship your Boxy, and we really appreciate your patience. Rest assured we’re working day and night to get your Boxy to you as soon as possible. We can’t wait to Charm you”. It’s now the end of June 24th and still nothing. I think you’ve lost all of your charm at this point….

Agreed this isn’t charming! I have not even received an email with tracking info for my Boxyluxe boxes I have two accounts they send them later and later every month but take their money on time every month from my account without fail!

I’m still waiting on my Luxe. I haven’t even gotten that email. I’ve had it with BC.

Still no tracking. I cancelled. I contacted them on Twitter on Thursday and they admitted it still hasn’t shipped but assured it would “ship soon” with no expected date. They haven’t even read my reply since then. So I called my bank and successfully did a chargeback. I told BC not to ship or I’ll end up with free box. They tried to blame the virus, but close to 1 million people have already received theirs so I’m not buying it anymore.

I 1st started out this year with signing up with Boxycharm. I had Ipsy and Birchbox. Well when they all increased the monthly charge on me I jumped out from both places. If I’m gonna spend more money on these makeup Box’s let me try out Boxycharm. I did my 1st Boxy was awesome my 2nd one wasn’t all that. So i then sign up for the Luxe to see if I get more. I was on the waiting for maybe a month or so be4 I got my 1st Luxe. Well it took forever to send out the Luxe but when I did I was very happy. I don’t like to see what im getting be4 I get it… But yeah right be4 next months payment is due is when I finally got my 1st Luxe… I’m not gonna lie they took forever. But yeah.. I do get eyeshadows I’d never wear. Please I beg u nomore orange or red eyeshadows. I’m a lady not Ronald McDonald! Please look at our beauty quiz be4 shipping something out to us please. Thanks! Danielle

After two random boxes with random orange palettes and Barbie pink lipgloss, I went back into my quizzes and updated them both. Since then I have loved my boxes.

Except for the Kylie skincare, of course.

Jamey

They do not use quizzes. What they do get is info on how much of what to buy….so if you have 10000 liking a eyeshadow pallette and 10000 skincare they know what to buy….that does not mean that you get what you put on the quizzes, just tells them what to buy…they have been saying they dont use quizzes but plan to start for 6 yrs that I’ve been here.

RAR

That was a year ago.

Angela

News Flash – it was a coincidence! Boxycharm has admitted they aren’t using the quizzes but then they still tell you to do them. Makes no sense to get a foundation or BB cream in the wrong shade when we did complexion quizzes.

Lori

So over Boxycharm AND the orange/red makeup trend.

RubyWooWhoo

Cool tones have been trending all year this year, I’ve picked up several nice cool toned palettes in the last few months. It’s just Boxycharm that keeps it coming with these aggressive orange/red palettes every month. Just one of the many reasons I haven’t missed them since unsubscribing.

My first box came and it’s just the basic box. I wasn’t pleased at all. I got one make product and the rest were facial products which when I first did a account and answered questions, I asked for just makeup. I also didn’t receive a card with the product details. If July’s box is the same I will be canceling.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamey

They do not use quizzes. And they are going to stop sending cards and use virtual cards to save trees and money…so events all the cards will be online….somewhere…lol. not sure where

Iggy'sRock

This box only seems like it would fit a warm coloring person. Not for a cool, at all.

Reply ButtonReply

I’ve bought the full-sized tube of the First Aid Beauty scrub myself, so I wouldn’t mind getting some more of that, but the rest of the box…why? why is everything like it’s made for an orange from my produce drawer? Please, there are cool-toned people in this world that don’t look like gingers. It’s been going on for four years or so…so done with this trend. I’m no longer paying for these “dress up your citrus produce” boxes.

In my opinion, boxycharm needs to pay closer attention to the beauty quiz. And yes, I think the boxes have went downhill. They need to rethink some of their promises. We give them money to surprise us each month, please don’t take our trust in boxycharm and make us regret our commentment to you.

The KAB Cosmetics company is yet another business front under the DLS umbrella of private-labeled stuff. A user in Reddit found & shared the receipts that KAB exists at the same address as the other DLS junk (apparently they are now receiving orders under the name Worldwide Import Service).

So, you know. Apply those lip products at your own peril.

(Adding a disclaimer that it’s not just because it’s a private-labeled product or just because ‘it’s Chinese;’ it’s because the owner of all DLS brands has been shown to be a prejudiced, unkind person as well as being a straight-up liar completely unworthy of being trusted to have consumer safety in mind.)

Man, I don’t think you could pay me to make space for this box’s underwhelming contents…

I received the gloss duo and the Laura Gellar trio, but received face wash, Smashbox setting spray, and the Tula eye balm as my other items.

My bf hates the lip color on me. It’s just OK. I wanted to love it, and it’s been one of the best colors I’ve received from Boxy since they normally send meh colors.

I want to see other spoilers for July. I might need to take a Boxy break for real. I have way too much stuff, and the 111 Skin serum might not be enough to hold me over.

Many of us did not get eyeshadow palettes this month. I did not, got a bottle of fash wash instead. I also got actual lashes instead of the mascara, and I do not wear false lashes. I wish Boxycharm would work harder on sending equal variations. A bottle of face wash does not equal a nice eyeshadow palette. And didn’t they promise at one point (I think it’s when Ipsy came out with Ultimate) they’d start paying attention to our beauty quiz?

Reply ButtonReply

Terri

I don’t think they even look at the beauty quiz. I have gotten things that I asked to rarely receive which is all the face masks and face cleaners. It becomes overwhelming all the cleaners they send monthly I would rather have make up products or some of the actual things that were asked on the quiz. I got boxy premium and boxy luxe and fabfitfun . The last couple months I debating on keeping any boxy charm . I guess I will see how next month goes

Zo

We probably got the same box. I did get one item I will use and that’s the one I chose, Tula eye balm. Peach tones look awful on me and believe me I’ve tried. Thankfully swaps are back open.

Kate of spades

Same here, but I wish I got face wash instead of bunch of lip products I’ll never use. Even if it’s cheaper, I’m gonna use it guys!

Boxy used to offer a palette or similar gift if you re-sign up, but now it’s just a $5 coupon?

Reply ButtonReply

Hallie Gottlieb

I was just about to cancel boxy then this months boxy Luxe was amazing! There was only one item I wouldn’t use, a box of brushes, but that just because I have so many so I’d rather gift them.

Apricot

I was pretty happy with my boxyluxe this month too 🙂 and have been waiting for the review to go up to see/read the variations.

should be up soon Apricot! I got all three in the same week somehow so all three tiers should be popping up shortly. <3

Boxycharm has apparently gone way down hill… I had taken some time off from it but signed back up this month at the beginning of the month with a coupon code for $12 of Add on credit. My box still hasn’t shipped and I never got the add on credit… I’ve written Boxycharm customer service several times and they keep telling me it’s in my spam folder likely (it’s NOT) and the last two times I’ve written they’ve just ignored me now. So disappointing. Used to love this box and thought their customer service was awesome but this was a huge let down… it’s the end of the month practically and still no shipment or credit.

Paige

I am in the exact same position. I re-subbed this month on the 6th, and no credit no nothing. Still haven’t received the info on the box either. I just cancelled.

Reply ButtonReply

Ami

That looks like a pretty good box but i feel like if i were to subscribe right now, I’d end up with a bunch of random junk.
