Book Summary from Amazon:
Two women. Two flights. One last chance to disappear.
Claire Cook has a perfect life. Married to the scion of a political dynasty, with a Manhattan townhouse and a staff of ten, her surroundings are elegant, her days flawlessly choreographed, and her future auspicious. But behind closed doors, nothing is quite as it seems. That perfect husband has a temper that burns as bright as his promising political career, and he's not above using his staff to track Claire's every move, making sure she's living up to his impossible standards. But what he doesn't know is that Claire has worked for months on a plan to vanish.
A chance meeting in an airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision to switch tickets―Claire taking Eva's flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico goes down, Claire realizes it's no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva's identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden.
For fans of Lisa Jewell and Liv Constantine, The Last Flight is the story of two women―both alone, both scared―and one agonizing decision that will change the trajectory of both of their lives.
A life swap story is always one that I can get behind and this one was so exciting and interesting! It was a quick read that was really easy to get into thanks to the premise and these two women whom you might endear yourself to. The character of Claire is a little more transparent and you like her immediately as you root for her to escape from her abusive marriage and regain her freedom. The suspense leading up to her plan is short-lived but intense enough to hook you from the start. As for Eva, we seem to uncover the details about her life slowly and in layers. You know that their lives have to converge at some point, but it's not completely transparent how that will happen and what will lead to this which keeps the reader engaged the entire time. There were definitely a few surprises and twists that I didn't see coming, and there were quite a few moments that were suspenseful, but I don't know if I'd consider this a true thriller. The way the story is presented gives you a sense of ease as you read, even if you don't know exactly what is going to happen so I didn't find myself as stressed as I normally would have. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'd definitely recommend it for a summer read!
Each month, Book of the Month includes a bookmark.

Verdict: I sped through my Book of the Month pick this month! It was such an intriguing and exciting story, the perfect read for some escapist entertainment! I really enjoyed both of the characters and I thought the author had a unique way of telling the story that really kept me engaged and wanting these women to succeed. If thrillers normally deter you for being too suspenseful, I think this is a safe choice that had just the right amount of suspense and heart!
