Bespoke Post "Nakiri" Review

This box contained one super high-quality German knife with Japanese heritage.

ZWILLING Gourmet 6.5" Nakiri Knife - Retail Value $107.50 (currently on sale for $84.99)

If there is anything this time at home has taught me, its that most of my kitchen tools are kind of terrible. Sure, I have a really nice Dutch oven, loads of colorful Fiestaware, and a mint green KitchenAid mixer (that I never use), but in terms of actual basic food prep? My kitchen hasn't really improved in years!! My knives especially are laughable, so when I saw this Japan-style chopper I added it to my June Bespoke selection immediately. All of my knives are just a mix of random Target buys or hand me downs. I don't know that I have ever really bought or sought out a high-quality knife. With the arrival of this boxed knife, I ascended.

Aside from the obvious quality difference, this German-made knife is unlike anything in my drawers based on shape. Instead of a tip, this blade is completely flat across the end. Designed to make chopping through fruits, vegetables, and fish a total breeze, I am hoping this knife helps speed up the veggie prep that has increased as I am trying to eat healthier. It certainly makes a chopped salad super easy! Just toss all of your veggies on a large cutting board and go to town. I also loved it for chopping large amounts of fresh herbs at once too. While this is ideal for veggies, this is not a knife for frozen foods or tougher meat. Which just means I need more high-quality knives!

Verdict: This Bespoke Post was a grown-up moment for my kitchen. Will, a knife enthusiast, has already lectured me on the appropriate uses for such a nice blade. This is a really great tool for chopping and dicing the majority of the ingredients I cycle through in my meals and has improved my speed and precision! I also think the value here was outstanding, as even vs the sale price of $84.99, spending $45 on this knife is a load of savings. I will be on the lookout for more amazing deals from Bespoke, especially when it comes to kitchen tool improvement.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is unfortunately sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $45 + $3.95 shipping meaning I saved about 54% with my Bespoke Post membership over the retail price of $107.50.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

For those wondering, I’m pretty happy with this knife. I wouldn’t say that it’s worth the $85 that is purported, but at $45 + tax and shipping it’s fairly valued. I’m happy with my purchase and am having more fun with this knife than my standard chef’s knife. The only drawback so far is that there’s no rocking motion for mincing, but it’s become my favorite knife thus far. It’s so darn fun to use. This Nakiri is a good deal.

I didn’t see this as an option for June! 😟 My only complaint about Bespoke is that I cannot see all of the options.
For June I chose the Growler, but I definitely would’ve chosen the knife over it!

Hey Vinnie! I only see limited boxes offered too in my account (we pay for this so its the same as any subscriber!) but I often use the search bar to look around and see if I can get lucky. I was searching “kitchen”, “knife”, etc! Sometimes I will toss weird stuff in like tea, books, wood, leather, and see what comes up! I hope that helps you find something even better next time!

Megan, I’ve seen you review boxes on here that I never saw in the options (including this one). Do you know if there are different options available for different areas?

Hey Tammy! Bespoke Post can be a little confusing. I am only shown a small number of boxes (we have a normal subscriber account that we pay for, so the process is the same) but I will often utilize the search bar to see if I can find more options. For this month I think I randomly searched “knife” and “kitchen” just because they are both top of mind for me right now, but I try all sorts of random stuff to see what happens! I hope this helps for next time. <3

I basically just crushed tomatoes for years with horrible knives. Oops.

I love, love, love to cook & was excited to add this to my existing collection of Zwilling knives, especially at such a great price! I’m on the edge of my seat in anticipation of July’s boxes.

@megan – what a great choice!! this style + carbon steel is definitely the way to go. i bought one of these literally 35 years ago. not only is it still going strong, but out of the many really nice knives i have, it’s the one i almost always reach for. just one key point to remember- promptly dry it after each use (no dishwasher)! if you leave it wet, carbon steel will rust! but as it literally takes me 30 sec to rinse off and dry when done chopping vegetables, it is well worth the effort!

Thanks for the tips! I really want to upgrade my kitchen from all my college leftovers.. slowly but surely! I am glad to hear I made a good choice! <3
