May 2020 Target Beauty Box "Sunscreen Queen" Review

This month Target is spotlighting their best SPF products!

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received an in-store coupon that also includes a promo code you can redeem online.

Moving on to Target Beauty Box's sunscreen picks for May!

Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen SPF 50 Mineral Lotion, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.08 (Buy 5 oz for $10.39)

This sunscreen formula checks all of the boxes for me. It is non-chemical, smells like a tropical getaway, and it has a matte finish. What more could you ask for? I tend to go for SPF 30, only because it is usually the SPF that is recommended, but I also tend to say "the more the merrier" and "more is more" in these type situations.

Sun Bum Original Sunscreen Spray SPF 30, 1.75 oz - Estimated Value $2.97 (Buy 6 fl oz for $10.19)

I am such a sucker for Sun Bum's packaging; a wood grain background and a big cheeky monkey will always catch my attention. This is the sunscreen I purchased for our last beach trip (which seems like it was 10 years ago now), and I was impressed with it. This is a clear spray-on sunscreen, and even though it goes on clear, don't forget to rub it in! It is fast-drying, non-greasy, and water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. I was also surprised and happy to find out this is also vegan!

Bare Republic Mineral Shimmer Holographic Shimmer Stick SPF 50 in Diamond Dust, 0.3 oz - Retail Value $8.99

This shimmer stick is exactly what it sounds like; it is full of iridescent purple and pink sparkles. I couldn't find "Diamond Dust" on Target's website, so I linked the shade "Sparkling Rose," which I am also very curious about. This could be fun to wear on your cheekbones on a beach day, right where you could use the most SPF 50 UVA/UVB protection, but as far as everyday wear, I'm afraid it is a little too shimmery, even for me.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk SPF 60, 0.06 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.43 (Buy 5 oz for $35.99)

This sunscreen had a great feel to it, but I don't know how much protection I got with a packet's worth of product. I was able to cover my face, but my neck had to fend for itself. This product dried very nicely and sunk into my skin without leaving behind any greasiness or shine. It felt velvety on my skin, and my makeup went on nicely over it.

RoC Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer SPF 30, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $18.69

This is a full-sized product! I was desperate to like this product, but I couldn't get past the fragrance, which is reminiscent of good old Oil of Olay Moisturizer. I love that it is a combination of anti-aging skincare with broad-spectrum SPF 30, but I think it would work much better for someone without such sensitive skin.

CeraVe Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Face SPF 50, .017 oz - Estimated Value $1.02 (Buy 2.5 oz for $14.99)

CeraVe will never do any wrong for me; I love all of their products including this one. It is a bit heavier than the Ultra-Light lotion (which was included in the Summer Hair and Skin Target Beauty Box this month), and even though I loved the feel of the Ultra-Light, I do prefer sunscreens with zinc. This felt great on my skin and dried completely with a matte finish. Although it took a little rubbing in, the zinc did not leave a white cast on my already pale complexion.

Verdict: Target Beauty Box brought out the SPF nerd in me this month. I love trying new sunscreens, and I was surprised at how far the drugstore SPF products have come from their greasy, perfumey predecessors. Target boxes just keep getting better and better! The value of this box is $34.18, an outstanding value for the $7 box cost (which includes free shipping).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? No, this box is unfortunately sold out.

What do you think of this May Target Beauty Box?

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Please be aware, the Roc moisturizer expires in August!

To add, the Bare Republic smells like vanilla cupcakes. The CeraVe left my face with a whitish zinc look even though I rubbed it in. I liked the Anthelios much better.

I loved this box…first one I purchased in a looooong time. It was nice to try the different formulas. I did end up liking the ROC Moisturizer way more than I thought I would. It is a generously sized bottle.

What a great review! Sounds like I missed a great box but I use a higher SPF anyway so it wouldn’t have worked for me.

My ROC expires in September too, but I just started using it so I should be able to use up. I didn’t know what to expect with BARE simmering stick…. I wish there was no shimmer because I like using stick sunscreen on my little guy.

I’ll use, but I don’t love the Roc. I have to wait for it to totally absorb, or my primer pills. La Roche Posay makes one of my favorite (but too expensive sunscreens the Ultra-Light fliud) and I was hoping this would be decent, but it is too thick and greasy (no idea where they get the “Melt In Milk” name lol). The Cereve looks promising. I patch tested it and it was fine. Hopefully it works with my makeup (I only wear primer, but it is silicone).

Decent box though for the price. I’d love to see more SPF samplers.

Wish I’d seen this sooner!

I loved this box. I have to agree on the Roc moisturizer. It is a nice big bottle, but I cannot get past the smell. Everything else was great.

Great box. I had this in my cart. But never purchased it because I had just gotten the Sephora sunscreen bundle. Wish I would have gotten this as well.

I ordered two boxes right when the box was released & one of my ROC expires in July, the other in September.
I immediately began using the bottle with the earlier expiration date & I love it so much more than I expected to! It absorbs quickly & leaves the perfect finish that doesn’t leave me looking as if I wiped my face in Crisco. I’ve used it for a week now & no adverse reactions- in fact, my skin actually looks better since I began using it!! I’m impressed!!

This is a great box!

I was sad I didn’t get it, but seeing the July expiration date makes me think I actually lucked out

I’m glad I grabbed two when they first came out. I’m not too annoyed by the quick expiration date since I’ll share the sunscreen with my sisters.

My Roc sunscreen expires in September so a little better than others. I’ll still use sunscreen after it’s expired for 4ish months but about then I’ll toss it.

I wasn’t quick enough the first time it was available. Had it in my cart when it sold out, but it was restocked a few hours later. I am kind of glad if it means the exp date is a couple of months farther out because I really like it. That shimmer stick is another story. I swiped it on the back of my hand and within a couple of minutes my hand was incredibly itchy and red. Even after washing it off it continued to itch for some time.

I have actually only used the Roc product so far. I like the scent. And yes, mine also expires in July, but I do plan to use it after expiration date. I’ll probably finish the bottle in September or so. It’s not like all of a sudden it will stop working

Lori

I wasn’t crazy about any of these sunscreens. I was most excited about the Bare Republic, but it was too sticky and got shimmer everywhere. Oh well, I guess I learned I am really picky about sunscreens.

FYI, that RoC sunscreen expires in July! Or at least mine does. I’ll probably use it on my arms and neck to use it up before it goes bad, and also bc I agree, the fragrance is quite strong.

Brittany

It’s sold out- it’s been sold out for a while now.

Delia

This box actually sold out very quickly and I’m really annoyed I didn’t buy a second one… great products.

I am confused:
“Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available for purchase.”
or
“This is a review of the “Sunscreen Queen” Target Beauty Box which is currently sold out.”
Which one is correct?

Reply ButtonReply

Abby Holsinger

Sorry about that! Target is pretty tricky, and sometimes they get sold out and then restock soon after. As of right now, they are sold out, but I would check back if you’re interested in purchasing.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennie

Dang it.I missed this one. Definitely not available last night. Actually, none of their boxes are showing for me. Are they all sold out?

Reply ButtonReply

Jaya

Yes, sadly. Target does restock though so you can keep checking back. But given it’s almost the end of the month, you might not be so lucky.
