Henny+Roo April 2020 Chicken Box Review

It’s green outside! Loads to explore around the yard today.

Time to enjoy fresh blades of grass and open our new Henny+Roo box!

Our box comes complete with an info card explaining all of the items arriving this month.

Henny+Roo 3-in-1 Vitamins, Electrolytes, and Probiotics, 2 oz – Buy 5 packs for $20.95

Just like humans, chickens can use an extra electrolyte boost in hot weather! It just makes them feel better. This mix also contains extra vitamins and probiotics. I mixed this powder into the girls’ water feeder and just let them do their own thing!

Wooden Hen Silhouette Home Decor – Retail Value $12.95

Occasionally this box sends a home decor item, and it is always pretty cute! This weathered wooden hen is a perfect addition to a country chic style mantle or bookshelf. The twine bow was a nice touch!

Flock Party Corn and Mealworm Cake – Retail Value $3.99

Satchel and Dizzy love these cakes, and I like them too because they are easy to hang inside the run for those times when we have spotted a hawk or some other time when we weren’t completely comfortable leaving them outside alone. It allows them to peck and forage without leaving the safety of their run. This one has corn and mealworms, two treats that never last long around here.

Bobcat Urine Pee Shots – Buy 16 oz for $30.00

These flakes are literally saturated with bobcat urine. I 100% have not been brave enough to open this stuff up to see what it smells like, but whatever the scent is supposedly runs off vermin who like to hang around and chew through feed bags. Thankfully we don’t have trouble with that, but a part of me wonders if it would also scare raccoons away. Products like this make me thankful we generally don’t have predator or vermin issues!

Schreiner’s Herbal Solution, 2 fl oz – Buy 4 oz for $9.15

This solution is an excellent topical treatment for cuts and scrapes. It contains aloe vera, myrrh, goldenseal, comfrey, cayenne and elder in an alcohol base. It also kind of smells great? I will be transferring it to a spray bottle to have ready for those summer chicken adventures.

Encore Poultry Grit Plus, 16 oz – Retail Value $6.95

Grit is really important because it helps the chickens break down all the vegetation they eat inside of their crop. My girls are long grass enthusiasts, so I always make sure to scatter grit around and add it to their food. This blend also has oyster shell for stronger egg shells, charcoal for healthy digestion, and anise to add an appealing scent.

Chicken Stickers – Retail Value $3.00

Who doesn’t adore stickers? These are perfect for decorating the eggs you give to neighbors or even cute letters.

Laying Box Liner

Our last item comes in every box and is a super handy laying box liner. This helps keep your eggs clean after the hens leave them in the elevated boxes they use to lay. Since Satchel has decided she isn’t done quite yet, these are really nice for her to lay eggs on.

Satchel is in the middle of some strangely scheduled molt, which is odd for her since she usually saves a molt for right before winter begins. She generally has bad timing.

Dizzy doesn’t make fun of her current ‘do though! She knows she is capable of looking a little unhinged herself.

See you next time!

The Verdict: Henny+Roo was great this month! Both the girls and I had loads of fun going through the items. This subscription is somehow able to make a box with both stickers and bobcat pee feel cohesive! I love the blend of treats, lifestyle items, and chicken safety/first aid I get to look forward to each month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the welcome box or the June box since the May box is currently sold out. Per Henny+Roo:

Orders placed the 1st – 10th of the month start with a Welcome Box, renew on the 15th, then continue the following month, shipping on or about the 5th of the month. Orders placed the 11th – 31st start with next month’s box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $39.95, meaning each of the 7 items inside has an average cost of $5.71.

  1. “This subscription is somehow able to make a box with both stickers and bobcat pee feel cohesive!”

That’s hilarious! Love this review, Megan.

    • Haha thanks Maddie! I try. <3

  2. I love reading these reviews!

  3. Love reading this each month 😁 seeing the pictures of your girls enjoying their box makes me smile every time! Makes me want chickens again lol

  4. Hi Megan,
Be still my beating heart, if it isn’t Henny & Roo time again! Dizzy and Satchel seem so much happier with the spring weather. Thank you for the awesome review and the latest instalment of the chickies’ adventures! Although I’m really sad we didn’t get your take on the Bobcat Urine Pee Shot! Megan, please, for all that is holy, please take a whiff and tell us about it. You and Marne both have such a talent in being able describe scents that I feel like we have really missed out on your insights here! Do it for science! If only to make us all appreciate fragrance subs even more. Despite that minor departure from your normal reviewing protocols, I loved your review, thank you. And these Henny & Roo people get an A+ from me for being able to pull together such a fantastic mix of products for chicken-devotees like me. Hugs to Satchel and Dizzy xx p.s. love the captions too

    • Thanks so much Mimosa! I am admitted terrified of the bobcat pee. It is sitting on a shelf in eyesight, daring me to be brave. I will update if I get the nerve.

      • Hi Megan,

Just checking back in to see how we’re going with that unopened jar of bobcat pee.

I have been in lockdown just a little too long, I think.

  5. I have been eagerly awaiting this review since last month. Watching all of “a chick called Albert” to tie me over since then. We’re still waiting to install a coup.

Your girls still looks lovely as does your grass. If only there were more chicken boxes for you to review!

    • I am so excited for you to have little chickens! They truly are so easy and so much fun. I also wish there were more chicken boxes!

  6. Looks like Dizzy’s neck is healing nicely.

This review is always a fun read.

    • She is a klutz, so I am also pleased. Thank god for blu-kote!

  7. I stan Dizzy and Satchel major time.

    • I will pass that along to them <3

  8. I always look forward to this review, but oh my goodness did I ever need this today. Thank you so much Megan, it is always such a pleasure to see pictures of your girls.

    • I am happy to share them with you Sherri! 🙂

  9. Well. Now I’ve seen everything. 🙂

  10. Always look forward to this review. Those girls are adorable. Well done, as always, Megan.😊

    • Thank you Dawn! They enjoy it as much as I do. Happy it is a fun read for you!

  11. I love hearing reviews on this box.

  12. You will die if you smell that bobcat urine! It is the strongest scent I’ve ever smelled! You need to take whiff though, it’s something you should try at least once! 🐱🐔

    • You are really selling it here Beccah 😁

  13. I had no idea there was a backyard flock subscription box! How fun

  14. Easily my favorite box MSA reviews!! Makes me really want to keep chickens. I keep trying to convince my folks are yard is a perfect size, but I do also still need to make sure they’d be allowed where I live

Love the new captions on the photos to scroll thru! Great new feature

    • Thanks Amy! Glad you liked the captions. Hens are so incredibly easy! I hope your area allows them.

  15. Highlight of my quarantine.

    • <3
