Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get 5 full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes for 2020 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

Included is a card that usually details each of the items.

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month's theme is Full Bloom, inspiring this beautiful pink floral patterned bag! I also absolutely love the unique wooden hardware on the zipper, with "IPSY" etched into it.

Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel, 7.5 mL - Estimated Value $9.00 (Buy a full-size 50 mL $60.00)

I'm always excited to get a Murad product. The brand has excellent skincare formulas, in my opinion. This lightweight water gel moisturizer is perfect for the upcoming warm weather. Its oil-free formula moisturizes skin without clogging pores. As someone with oily skin, I love that this product was included. In the summer, I tend to have breakouts when moisturizers are combined with a hot summer day.

Kismet Pure Vitamin C Primer, 10 mL - Estimated Value $15.33 (Buy a full-size 30 mL for $46.00)

This primer has an amazing silky smooth texture. I love the way it feels on my skin, almost like a protective layer before applying makeup. The formula is infused with vitamins to brighten and nourish skin over time. The product also has a very subtle shimmer to it, giving skin a healthy-looking glow.

Sugar Cosmetics Wingman Waterproof Eyeliner Swatch for Ipsy Glam Bag April 2020

Sugar Cosmetics Wingman Waterproof Eyeliner in I'll Be Black, - Full Size! Listed Value $11.99 (similar products found here for $15.99)

If you're into cat eyes and dramatic wings, this may be the eyeliner for you. The felt tip is awesome: incredibly narrow for precise application. I found the product could be applied smoothly and was easy to control. I do love the dark true black color and the waterproof formula.

Kokie Cosmetics Be Bright Illuminating Concealer Swatch for Ipsy Glam Bag April 2020

Kokie Cosmetics Be Bright Illuminating Concealer in Golden Beige, 0.2 fl oz – Full Size! Retail Value $8.00

I found this concealer to be extremely lightweight and full-coverage. The shade was a fairly close match to my skin tone and went on smoothly and lasted all day. It quickly evens out skin tone and blends easily into your makeup or skin. I'm very happy to have received this product. Especially with the summer coming, these lightweight formulas are coveted.

Neogen Dermalogy Real Vita C Serum, 10 g - Estimated Value $7.28 (Buy a full-size 32 g for $23.31)

I'm super excited about this product because it is one of the first ever vitamin C serums I've seen that also provides UV protection. With the summer coming, I like to know that my skin is protected, and this product also ups collagen production, fades dark spots, and brightens skin. I do have to say, it has an odd and strong citrus scent that I don't love. I also think the packaging could be more conducive to easy application. As is, you have to be very careful that you don't pour too much product out at once.

Verdict: I think this month's Ipsy Glam Bag had a great mix of products that highlighted the Full Bloom theme and the coming warm weather. I absolutely adore the little bag and the unique wooden hardware on the zipper. I am always excited to receive a Murad product; the brand has always treated my sensitive skin well. I love the Nutrient-Charged Water Gel. The two full-size products included this month, the Kokie Cosmetics Be Bright Illuminating Concealer and the Sugar Cosmetics Wingman Waterproof Eyeliner, are both wins in my book. I'm also excited to continue using the Neogen Dermalogy Real Vita C Serum, and I'm thrilled that the product also offers UV protection. The Kismet Pure Vitamin C Primer has a quite unique texture that I am interested in applying to my routine. I have to say, this month was pretty strong for Ipsy, in my opinion. This month had a nice value estimated at $51.60. That is great for a $12 subscription!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Good to Know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $12 for this box, I calculated a value of $51.60. Here's how that breaks down per item:

  • Murad: $2.09
  • Kismet: $3.57
  • Sugar Cosmetics: $2.79
  • Kokie Cosmetics: $1.86
  • Neogen Dermalogy: $1.69

Alternatively, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $2.40

I finally received my April bag and I was completely underwhelmed. I also received the Murad water gel and I haven’t noticed a difference in my oily skin yet. The bag is adorable and I’m looking forward to trying the vitamin c serum.

Yay, excited to see a reviewer with oily/acne prone skin! I feel like most of the reviewers have dry or combo skin.

I got 3 of the same items. The Murad, Neogen and the kimset primer. The other items received are YC collection powder in 215 and another luxie eyeshadow brush.

My Ipsy mailer arrived open with only one product in it, not even the bag lol. They are sending another and I hope that it contains my original reveals, because I am supposed to get that primer and Vit. C and I was looking forward to trying them. (I also added on a brow pencil which I desperately need 🙃).

My April 2020 Ipsy GB was one of the BEST I’ve ever received!

April is sold out, so first bags will be May!
Was supposed to have gotten an April bag as a freebie but it never showed and CS told me they’re sold out so I’ll get May, which works for me since I like the May bag design better anyhow!

I wonder if they have a new team designing the bags. They used to be super cute and creative. Gudetama, ghosts as zippers, ice cream cones – just a few that come to mind. Now they all seem to be the same. The design changes, but they are still all kind of similar. Interesting to have seen the changes. Not a huge fan, but at least I have the super cute bags from the past.

This comment made me chuckle, because each time one of the “creative” bags comes out people ALSO ask if they have a new team designing the bags! XD I think the most creative ones that come to mind tend to be collabs/guest designers, but yeah, a really fun one would be nice!

I have 2 Ipsy accounts and got a totally different selection (actually, there was only 1 common product, Ahava mask, in both bags so I have no clue how Ipsy matches or if they even use “often/rarely” selections we make) so it was great to read your review for products I didn’t receive. I totally agree on concealer! I actually bought it as add on this month after I tried it earlier. Thank you for your honest unbiased reviews! I really enjoy reading them.

The vitamin c serum is awesome. I wish they gave a bigger sample

Alice

It’s the best I’ve ever tried.

The vitamin c serum does not have sun protection that I see?

Reply ButtonReply

Debbie

Jodi, you are correct. In fact, the Neogen bottle clearly states “If used before sun exposure, apply sunscreen on top”. What is worse is that it contains citrus extracts, which actually increase your risk of sunburn. What Ipsy says is that it “helps prevent free radical damage from things like…UV”. Nowhere does it say that it offers UV protection, except from the reviewer’s own (incorrect) words.

Yeah, not sure where she got that information. The picture of the sun is just meant to indicate that it is a brightening product.
