CAUSEBOX Spring 2020 Review

Each CAUSEBOX comes with a beautiful booklet full of information about each product, its origins, and other tips and anecdotes. I really love learning more about the independent makers behind artisan products and designers and this booklet had so much info! I read this book from cover to cover and really enjoyed it.

Let's dive in!

Pixie Mood 'Zoe' Crossbody in Honey - Retail Value $75.00

(Subscribers will receive this purse in either Honey, Black, or Grey. If you are an annual subscriber, you get to pick the color.)

I am not someone who really loves "pleather" but I am very impressed with this purse. Made of polyurethane instead of PVC, this material was chosen for having less of a negative environmental impact that other leather substitutes. The honey color is really pretty and a great neutral shade for spring. I also love the slate blue lining which is made of recycled water bottles. Another standout feature is that built-in slot outside the main purse compartment which is perfect for your keeping your phone safe but also accessible. There is also a smaller interior zipper pouch for smaller items. The hardware is a softer silver shade that complements the rest of the purse beautifully.

It was plenty big enough for my rather large wallet and my iPhone, with lots of room left over for sunglasses, lipsticks, keys, and more. The strap was also generously adjustable, measuring 45 - 54 inches long depending on the hole you choose to adjust it to.

Stackable Bento Box by Bentgo in 'Cloud' - Listed Value $29.00 (similar found here for $14.99)

(Subscribers will receive this in either Sunflower, Blush, or Cloud. If you are an annual subscriber, you get to pick the color.)

Before I ended up working from home, a lunch routine was something I was working towards. Takeout every day gets so expensive and is less than ideal for my health. This adorable little bento is absolute perfection for lunch on the go. It has two different layers; one is big and open and the second has a divider for snacks. There is also a set of built-in utensils! The white elastic band keeps everything together so you don't lose your yummy grapes or crackers going to and from work.

Here is what it looks like stacked for lunch-time carrying!

Artisan Direct Sustainable Grocery Starter Kit - Listed Value $22.00

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

While I likely won't be going to any farmer's markets any time soon, I did recently sign up for Misfits Market, a produce subscription service. It's nice to make sure we have lots of fresh produce around when I am not visiting the grocery store regularly. With more veggies comes more storage needs and these bags are actually fantastic for storing root veggies and other varieties that need breathable storage. I have one of those three-layered hanging baskets in my kitchen and most of my produce is stored there waiting to be turned into a yummy meal. I also have some hooks in my pantry that these hang from for more storage. These bags are perfect for dividing and protecting different fruits and veggies and letting them breathe. For when I do venture out for some markets again, the tags on these bags have handy tare weights!

Earth Harbor Aqua Aura Reparative Eye Cream, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $34.00

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

This product arrived a little separated, but I smacked the tub on my palm a few times and it quickly mixed back together. Natural products doing this never really bothers me! I really love this eye cream! It has some of my favorite ingredients: hyaluronic acid, seaweed extract, and blue tansy! It smells SO good and applies very nicely. A little goes a long way and the fluid formula means you can apply it without tugging on the delicate skin underneath your eyes. This hasn't left my bedside table since I first tried it.

Cardea Auset CALM Mood Mist, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $30.00

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

I like relaxing mists but generally, they're mostly only lavender and while that is nice, this mist takes it further with the inclusion of witch hazel, frankincense, and bergamot in addition to the lavender scent. It gives this scent a lot more complexity and makes it feel like some sort of super zen bedroom mist. You can apply this to your fave cozy blanket or to your sheets before bed, really whatever you want.

Dime Beauty Super Eye Duo - Retail Value $49.00

(Annual subscribers can choose between this set or a Fosterie Layered Gem Necklace)

This set includes a mascara and an eyelash boost serum. This is my favorite sort of mascara because I prefer a very natural look and this formula simply coats and lengthens my lashes without any super dramatic volume. It makes my lashes look black, long, and very wispy without even a hint of clumpiness.

The lash enhancer I plan on using on my eyebrows instead. I have pretty long lashes (they are just very straight!) but my brows have been a splotchy mess for years. I have heard that these sorts of serums work well on brows too, so I am so excited to give this a long-term try.

Jenni Earle 'Wild + Free' Bandana - Listed Value $32.00 (see more Jenni Earl designs here!)

(Annual subscribers can choose between this bandana or a Simple Self Daily Self-Care Planner)

This was the story inside the info book that got me the most. Jenni Earle's grandfather is one of her biggest inspirations, and she grew up with him always encouraging her. He also always kept an old bandana in his pocket to wipe off sweat and dirt while he was working. This tugged so much on my heartstrings because I am also wildly close to my grandfather who also kept a similar handkerchief in his jeans pockets all the time when he was working. This is actually something that is so closely tied to my childhood memories! She started her bandana company as an ode to her grandfather, and designed this one along with CAUSEBOX. While these are usually made in North Carolina, this batch was handcrafted by 150 Indian workers employed in a safe space. It seems like a great collab to me!

It totally fits the warmer color palette I have been loving lately.

Art Print

And in every box, CAUSEBOX includes a postcard print you can mail or frame. I can totally see these cheerful florals working beautifully in my home, so I think I will hand mat this print and frame it for my bathroom or kitchen.

Verdict: This CAUSEBOX has a value of around $271 which is really great for a $54.95 box. I liked everything inside! My favorite items? Hmm... hard call, but I love the bento box and that eye cream. I am kind of very into the purse too, and I am wearing the bandana as I type this review up. The produce bags are endlessly useful and the calming mist is much appreciated right now. I also really like the mascara and I am looking forward to seeing if the serum works some magic on my brows. This was my first CAUSEBOX and I am impressed with the items and all the thought and care that went into curation.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. Don’t subscribe to Causebox, they have the worst Customer Service in the world. After sending numerous emails to them and never receiving any response, I had no choice but to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on them. I requested cancellation and refund on my anual subscription on June 1st and can’t get them to respond or give me my refund. In addition, shipping of their box is insane! Avoid the headache, don’t subscribe to Causebox!!!

I’m an annual member…and once again so disappointed in Causebox lack of customer service in response to the unacceptable delays in shipping the spring boxes…my was finalized February 11th…and today April 27th….still not shipped…FFF, already sending out spoilers for summer box. I am so done with this company. So disappointed…

So this is my second attempt at a Causebox membership. I initially signed up for the Winter box and it was taking sooo long and communication was non-existent so I finally reached out to them and asked them to cancel it which they did. Against my better judgement I signed up again for Spring and it took so long to finally ship that by the time it did I didn’t really want it anymore. It finally got here today and I was fully expecting to get everything I DIDN’T want (black purse, grey bento, necklace and wellness journal) and the opposite happened – I got all of my first choices! Grey purse (would have also been happy with the camel), yellow bento, eye duo and scarf. I was stoked and all was forgiven. Whether or not I stay subscribed for summer depends on the spoilers. Causebox seems to be really hit-or-miss in terms of their curation.

I had been with FFF for 5 years but decided I was ready for a change. This is my first causebox (seasonal membership). I was a little worried as I couldn’t choose anything, and it took forever to ship, but I got my box today and I literally got everything I wanted!!! The grey bag, the eye duo, the bandana, and the pink bento boxes. So happy!!!

My box has said “awaiting shipment” since mid March. I know there are issues with COVID 19. However, I’m ready to be done waiting for this box.

So excited to receive my box today! I loved everything, but the crossbody is my favorite item. I chose the bandanna and the necklace. I selected sunflower as my bento and received the grey as expected. Causebox included a card stating that my sunflower bento would be arriving later.

I’m a second year annual member and so excited for this box. I understand that there were necessary delays in fulfillment due to COVID-19, but it’s a little frustrating to me that they gave out a gratis promotional box before fulfilling boxes for paying members. I still haven’t received my spring box or any of my 3 market orders.

Reply ButtonReply

Kalofa

The box was not “gratis” free. It was a smaller starter box and not everyone has received yet.

Ann

I agree – as a paid annual subscriber who also paid for an additional market order in February – I have yet to receive anything. Too many people posting they have received their boxes many weeks ago. I have called and emailed and received a universal cut and paste reply. This is not the time to fail on customer service and hoping for people to re-new subscriptions in light of the failing economy.

I loved this box; I chose the planner instead of the scarf. I can never say no to a planner and I was not disappointed. I bought two scarfs on Jenni’s website after reading the story in the book though. 🙂 Also lovely quality. The curation was just amazing this quarter. I really feel bad for the people who have not received their boxes yet. It is very disappointing. Hopefully the Causebox team will address it publicly because they had shipping issues last quarter too.

On February 26, 2020, I placed a Market order for over $200. I have not received as of 4-7-2020. I am also a subscriber and have not received the Spring 2020. I have asked for a refund for the extra Market order and have been told my order was fulfilled. Even though it has not been shipped and I have not received anything. I am very disappointed in this company. I will need to call my credit card company now as well as post reviews like this to warn others. What a waste of my time.

Saw a posting that they’re out of the Spring Box. New subscriptions will receive Spring Welcome Box!

Causebox has the best CS I’ve experienced hands down.

Received my shipping notice Friday. Can’t wait.

Hopefully all will be shipped soon. Mine as said awaiting shipment for the past several weeks. I do however, understand the situation around the world.

Donna

I’m still awaiting shipment as of today.

Looking forward to getting mine. I used to carry a crossbody as a wallet inside a larger tote. The tote contained whatever I needed for work (lunch bag, makeup, after work stuff, papers to sort during downtime). Now I carry less, but could totally seeing me going back to that plan.

I’m also looking forward to the calm spray as I’m working my way through some bath and body works aromatherapy stress products.

My teens and I take our lunches everyday. Well, we did when we had places to go. The Bento will serve us well when we get out again.

I love Causebox, but whenever gray is one of the colors offered, you can bet that’s the one I’m going to receive. Gray purse and gray bento box in this one, the gray throw blanket in the last one, the gray and white striped tote bag, the caftan with the gray stripe, the gray portfolio, etc. My fault since I don’t do yearly and don’t have the option of choosing I suppose. Has this happened to anyone else?

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

I didn’t subscribe bec I didn’t want to do annual and I didn’t want to take the chance of getting a color I won’t use. But based on what you’re saying maybe I should. I like the black and grey vs the pink, white or tan.

This box was ok to me. The Calm mist has been gone, it smelled so good. Haven’t tried the eye cream yet, I have a thousand other ones I’m getting through. The lunch box was king of small, but my husband likes it for his prepared meals when he’s trying to drop weight to ensure Army standards. Everything else I would say would make good gifts, but who knows when we’ll gather for parties again, but I guess you don’t need a party to give gifts.

I loved everything in my box! I especially love that good causes are being helped with CB.

Great review!

Also, I’m LOVING the Self-Care Planner. I have been looking for something like this and hadn’t found it before this box. Yay!

Reply ButtonReply

MrsLittle

Did I miss the self care planner in the review?

Reply ButtonReply

Elise

The planner was an annual choice between the Jenni Earle Bandana. And it’s really been nice to have during these times! It’s called the daily self care planner “for self reflection, intention setting and powerful simple self care”. You can order online if you missed out! Really awesome if your the type who likes to journal or write things down or are interested in a little self care and help with self improvement/goals.

Kelly

When did this ship? Anyone know? I’ve not received even an email regarding shipment. 😡😡🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Might be time to CANCEL! They’ve been around long enough to NOT HAVE SHOPPING ISSUES.

Reply ButtonReply

Janell Greisen

They were slow in Winter too. Quick to take money they fail to respond to emails. Customer service lacking.

Alex

They’re still shipping. Their warehouse is running at a lower capacity because of COVID so they’re not able to get things out the door as quickly as usual. Priorities, please.

Jenn

One of the dirtiest things in your house is the bottom of a cloth purse. While I normally don’t like non leather items, this one is easy to wipe down and makes it useful to me. Loved everything else in the box, with the exception of the necklace. Wish non annual subscribers had at least one choice.

Amy

I just haven’t been able to commit to a causebox sadly. There’s always a few things I want and a few misses, as is expected. But between having to buy assuming I’ll be getting my least favorite colors/options and the brand’s apparent obsession with plastic goods (purses, clutches, all sorts of wasteful “pleather”) there has not been enough for me to be interested.
I tried to buy from them on black friday, but they never shipped and eventually I just had to ask for a refund.

Would love to see them follow closer to the FFF model in terms of customizations – some for all and a few extras for annuals. If I knew the plastic purse was at least going to be a usable or giftable color I might be more okay with it, even if I couldn’t pick other things.

Reply ButtonReply

Christine

Personally I think it’s a joke that individuals who can pay the enormous one time payment get to choose items that us that want to pay in smaller amounts can’t! So, we get the seconds? No thanks! That’s technically them SHOPPING, not getting a ‘subscription box’…

Reply ButtonReply

CT

Thank you for the review 🙂 this was my first causebox and I loved it! I cancelled FFF to try this one out for while.

Loved all the products!

Kim

I was Surprised at the size of the purse. It was much larger than I thought It would be. The bandana on the other hand was smaller than I expected. Regardless I am Very happy with this box

I’ve been a long time fan of Pixie Mood, and when I saw this one had been included in the box, it was the push I needed to finally subscribe. While I won’t wear leather, I usually opt for natural fibers over pleather, but this purse is a great quality. It’s stiff but doesn’t feel plastic-y to me at all. The bandana is also a win for me, as is the bento box. Really I love everything in the box. I already had produce bags, but I really like the quality of these as well as having bags for the dried goods bulk bins at the local co-op.

I am glad you loved it too! Everything was just super useful AND pretty. What more can I ask for?

I’m looking forward to receiving mine! The bandana is going to make a great mask substitute.

Megan, I started using a lash serum on my brows back in December, and I’ve been really impressed by how effective it’s been! I overplucked my brows as a teen, and although I’ve been using Babelash, not Dime, I hope your serum works as well for your brows as mine has been working for mine! 🙂

I am happy to hear it works! Hopefully this formulation gives me good results too <3
