Walmart Beauty Box "Winter Wonders" Winter 2020 Review

When you sign up you will answer a series of questions such as your ethnicity, hair color, skin concerns, and a few other preferences. The answers are used to provide a more personalized experience so that they can tailor your box to you.

This little card highlights our theme of Winter Wonders, along with some info about reviewing the products and a link to a survey. My boxes have been a bit behind; I'm not sure if it's dependent on when you sign up, but just note that you might not know when this box will arrive exactly!

Color Club Nail Lacquer in Take it or Leaf It - Retail Value $5.00

Our first item is a full-size nail polish which is a great way to start this box! I think that this nude color is a great winter to spring transitional color, too. This color is called "Take it or Leaf It" and while that's what I linked to above, I think the color I received is much more similar to this color on the Walmart site. It definitely doesn't look purple to me. I thought the consistency of this formula was pretty good. I could get a nice opaque coat with one thick stroke, although I think it held up a bit better on the nails that I did two thinner coats on.

Sorry, I have zero nails as of right now, but hopefully, you can get a sense of the color here! I didn't use a base coat or top coat but I was happy with how well the polish held up!

Avena Hand and Body Lotion, 3.4 oz - Estimated Value $0.85 (Buy a full-size 17 oz. for $3.59 - this was currently out of stock at Walmart)

This lotion is a nice size at 3.4 ounces and the fragrance is fresh and maybe a bit floral? I wasn't a huge fan of the scent, but it did fade some as it absorbed into my skin. It took a little while to absorb into my hands but definitely left them softer although I didn't find the moisturizing effects to be as intense or long-lasting as I would like. This formula contains oatmeal and is recommended for all skin types.

Degree Women Ultraclear Dry Spray, 1 oz. - Estimated Value $1.31 (Buy a full size for $4.97)

This next item is a repeat from the fall box for me. I made the switch to natural deodorant awhile ago when I got pregnant with my first child and I am not someone who typically sweats much so I haven't tested this one out. Since I don't tend to need a strong deodorant, I don't think my experience would be a great indicator of how well it would hold up for others. It does have some great reviews though! The smell is nice, very fresh and light and it says it offers 48-hour protection.

NYX Makeup Crew Soft Matte Lipsticks in California - Estimated Value $12.00 (based on a similar set found here)

This next item is a cool concept! There are two mini tubes of soft matte lipstick in the same shade, although one is metallic and one is plain matte. Both of these formulas were super silky and smooth and felt weightless on my lips after drying quickly. The matte finish was barely noticeable and while it wasn't incredibly long-lasting, it wore down evenly.

Here they are swatched with the metallic shade at the bottom.

The matte color was nude with a hint of pink to it.

The metallic formula comes across a bit darker.

Here I have the matte with the metallic over top. It is a perfect balance of the two formulas and I like it better than either of the lippies by themselves!

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelette, 1 wipe - Estimated Value $0.30 (Buy a pack of 25 for $4.97)

This last item is one I'm sure most have tried at some point. This is a single sample of Neutrogena's makeup remover wipes. This will be a nice item to throw in my travel toiletry bag or my purse in case I need it! It works pretty well to remove makeup, although I feel like it's not as gentle on the eyes as my Makeup Eraser, nor is it as environmentally friendly, of course. It will still do in a pinch, though!

Verdict: This was a pretty decent haul and a well-rounded mix of items this season! While the lotion and deodorant were misses for me, personally, and the Neutrogena wipe was just okay, I was happy to receive a set of two mini lipsticks and a full-size bottle of nail polish. Especially since they were all great colors and decent formulas! While I had a hard time estimating the value, I think this was a great deal for the $5.00 cost of shipping for this box!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I also did not recieve my 2020 winter beauty box. I did get an email in December saying that they would be shipping out soon and to confirm my address, but that was the last I heard of anything. I don’t believe I was charged yet? I’ll have to check my statement when it comes in.

Today I received my Spring 2020 box! Hopefully you guys will get yours soon to show everyone!

I used to send Liz these things, but not sure if anyone wants these spoilers anymore.

Please share! I’m new to this subscription and was so disappointed in the winter box. I’d love a lippie or nail color for spring (even though it’s summer now)

I received the NYX lippies, a Dove product which I really liked, an Optic White sample, a small lotion and the Lumify eye drops. Once I managed to open the eye drop cap, I LOVE 💕 this product! Just Wow! It really brightened my old eyes. This is worth my $5 every 3 months.

Not impressed. I decided to renew bc of this review, but the only item I got that matched this review is the NYX lip colors. I wanted the lotion (good size!) and the nail polish. I got a sample size bottle of eye drops, sample size toothpaste, dry conditioner and a 1 oz tube of Curel lotion. : /

I got the same! And I just got my winter box a few days ago… Wonder if they are going to be doing a spring box?

Reply ButtonReply

Barbara

I also got the same box. Don’t know how many dry shampoo/conditioners and toothpaste I can stand. Rarely do I get the box pictured. There was one time last year that I got a few full size items not pictured in the review and they were better quality. Only $5.00 but same old, same old.

I received the same box. Was disappointed that I didn’t get the nail polish too. Seems like I always get Dove products (dry conditioner) and I’m not a fan. Also, it took almost one month to receive after my credit card was charged.

I was charged 3 weeks ago and I’m still waiting for the Winter box.

I reactivated and was charged about a month ago. I just logged into my account since I haven’t heard anything for awhile. It shipped Thursday and is due Monday! Try checking your account with them, maybe yours shipped too!

Kimberly A Schneider

I just checked my account again. It does say it’s been shipped now but the tracking number is still showing as “USPS Currently Awaiting Package”. I imagine it will show up next week. I still think that’s pretty late for a “Winter” box.

Jen

Mine arrives Monday as well! And I was charged back in March. Fingers crossed its a decent box.

Denise

Mine was awesome. Totally worth $5. I got the nail polish in dark blue, which I love. The lip glosses as well. But otherwise, mine was different. I got a travel size Jergens lotion with lavender. A sheet mask. And a travel size Colgate whitening toothpaste. I will happily use it all and that toothpaste may have converted me to buying a big one.

I was charged for my box over three weeks ago and got an email today saying the box would be delayed because of the current crises. Which I totally understand. I haven’t been impressed with Brandshare in the past so fingers crossed it eventually ships!

Still waiting for my Walmart Beauty Box 3/29/20. I have been a subscriber for over two years. I was charged 24 days ago and no tracking. I reached out to Brandshare( aka Walmart) to no avail. I had contact with a rep named Cristina. They can not provide tracking or any information. But they are “happy to help”.

I know in the grand scheme this does not matter. I should just cancel and call it a day. Stay healthy folks. I just vented a little. Thanks.

May I ask HOW u got in contact with a representative???

I just received my Walmart Box ( Trendsetter) today 4/9 Here is what I received – Curel lotion, Degree, Optic White Toothpaste, Nail Polish – Navy Blue, NYX ( 2 lip glosses). Just giving an update.

Reply ButtonReply

Ana

Did you receive tracking number? This is my second box but I only see “Processing Shipment”

Tammy

My Trendsetter and Classic boxes had identical products 😞. I love the Avena lotion because I prefer a lighter texture and I’m partial to those softer European scents. Will be giving away the nail polishes and one of the lipstick sets.

Jeanine

Why do a winter review when the Spring box is out now? I cancelled this long ago but this box would make me sign up again. I’m not risking it now for the spring box I know I will get a bunch of samples as usual. I know it’s only 5 bucks but still all those 5 bucks start to add up.

Marion

Walmart beauty box shipping is wonky. MSA probably didn’t receive it until recently.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

This is the winter box. Boxes ship the last month of the quarter. This is the winter quarter. The spring boxes will most likely ship in June, which is the last month of Spring.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Wow my box was very different… no lotion or neutrogena face wipe

Melissa

My boxes were very different. I have 2 boxes, one of which is supposed to be Classic and the other of which is supposed to be Trendsetter. Both boxes were identical, which has never happened to be before. I received a bright pink/fuschia Color Club polish, the NYX lippies, the deodorant (ok, I guess my box wasn’t that different from yours – lol!), a whitening toothpaste, and Curel lotion.

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy S

I received my box with your same items in the mail the day after I received the shipping delay email. I didn’t receive a tracking email as I normally do. My color nail polish is the same as pictured above – the Take It or Leaf It. Worth my $5.

Reply ButtonReply

Lizc

Woo hoo! Time to resubscribe although I’ll cancel again after I receive the box. It seems to work better that way unless they iron out some issues.

Reply ButtonReply

Toni Marie

I received this exact same box. I liked this box because it was different from.all of the other boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Toni

Looks awesome too bad all I ever got was 1 use samples

Reply ButtonReply

Kim Schoerner

Exactly!! Me too.. Thats why i finally got fed up and cancelled.. Their customer service sucks. And it was like they were charging me and I would get the Box 2 months later I got a fall box in like January with only one use samples and the spray deodorant that I’ve already gotten a million times before I tried to explain the customer service but all I got was a generic copy and paste email more than once and I’ve been getting this box for about the last five years and over the last year it’s been terrible and customer service doesn’t seem to care I’m finally cancelled I know it’s only $5 but my $5 would probably buy more travel-size fraud single-use card samples. I was pretty apparent that they didn’t care about their loyal customers

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

*products (not fraud.. lol talk text problems)

Marion

I’m glad they sent the Nyx lip creams! I’ve tried Nyx lip products in the past for which I liked the color & performance, but couldn’t use due to the obnoxious fake vanilla scent of the product. These definitely are still fragranced, but the scent is perfectly tolerable to me. I’ll be on the lookout for more shades in this line.

I got the variant with the polish shade in It’s Complicated (magenta), Herbal Essences foils, Curel lotion, & Colgate sample. DEFINITELY worth the $5 to me!

Reply ButtonReply

Tamichiko

I got the same box as you, except I got a navy blue polish in the shade Made In The USA. I feel like this season’s box was better than last season’s box. For once I actually got lippies in shades that I can actually wear.

Reply ButtonReply

Makenzie

I agree with you, the two lippies combined look better together 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

JackieCupcake

The NYX lipsticks are full-size, I believe. I have several in that same style and they look full-sized.

Reply ButtonReply

Niki

Agreed! I looked them up on Ulta’s website and the same size is $6.50 each on there!! So $13 total🤗 I loved the California color I received too😊

Reply ButtonReply

Rachael

I have three accounts. I got the same nyx lippie in all. However one of the boxes contained two mattes and no metallic. I also recieved twonot quite navy blue nail polishes and one fuscia color. All three came with curel lotion. Two with Colgate toothpaste. A couple sample spray deodorants and all had some foil packs of herbal essences birch bark extract shampoo and conditioner. I always like my walmart boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

MzBev

Did I miss which version this is? I cannot find it. Was this the Classic or Trendsetter box? Thx!

Reply ButtonReply

Brandi D.

Hi MzBev, I actually can’t find any information on their site about whether they do the trendsetter/ classic boxes anymore. I believe they use your survey answers to personalize your boxes now so there may be more variety between all boxes now!

Reply ButtonReply

MzBev

They do. I reactivated, last week, after cancelling about a year ago. (after too many foil packets). The email confirmation I got from them states Classic box.
I used to get both options, but only want one, for now.

Am2cents

Well this is disappointing for me. I really like bold colors and I tend to get more subdued. I don’t mind subdued once in awhile but, my heart in love with dark reds, bright pinks, delicious purples..sigh
