Vegancuts Beauty Box
4.3 overall rating
40 Ratings | 8 Reviews

The Vegancuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegancuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

This review is of the $22.95 a month Vegancuts Beauty Box.

Vegancuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag, which looks like more of an environmentally-friendly material than the old bags. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Vegancuts Beauty Box March 2020 Review

The Vegancuts Beauty Box usually contains a variety of hair care, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well.

We are back to having information cards this month. I like the animal pictures.

There was also a coupon.

Osea Ocean Cleanser (0.6 fl oz) - Retail Value $18

I guess you are paying for packaging here because you can buy 5 oz of this same product for $48, and at that rate, this product would be $5.76. Anyway, this is a nice cleanser that doesn't strip all the oils from your face. It's something I will probably mostly use as a first-thing-in-the-morning type of cleanser. I sort of wish it came in different packaging, though, because I have tried a lot of Osea products from other subscription boxes and the thicker ones, like this, become nearly impossible to pump when the level of product gets lower.

Aromastick Natural Inhaler (0.4 oz) - Listed Value $9

This is an essential oil inhaler. As a scientist, I am not on the essential oils bandwagon. I think they can smell nice and sometimes I spray them on my yoga mat if it gets sweaty, but I don't believe they have health or mood-altering effects (although the "Refresh" one with eucalyptus and menthol may help clear your sinuses). The manufacturer's website lists prices in Euros so I've taken the value from the information card.

Instanatural Vitamin C Serum (5 mL) - Estimated Value $3.67 (Buy 30 mL for $22)

I was a little surprised from the packaging to see that this is bright orange but I guess the bottle is meant to be light-blocking. It is also VERY thick and a little difficult to get out with the included dropper. However, a little goes a long way. I also liked how nicely this absorbed into my skin, despite being on the thicker side. Although I tried it out on a weekend when I wasn't wearing makeup, I felt like this would not interfere with later application of even liquid foundation. It was also compatible with the other skincare products I used before and after, with no pilling or anything of that nature.

Avant Skincare Supreme Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Oxidizing Duo Moisturizer (0.5 fl oz) - Estimated Value $36.98 (Buy 1.69 fl oz for $125; found here for $100)

You don't usually see luxury, high-end skincare in this price range in Vegancuts so it is fun to receive something like this to try out. This tube is good for quite a few uses if you tend to be sparing with moisturizer like I am. This does appear to have artificial dyes and a strong fragrance, which is not ideal in a facial skincare product (at least for me) but I kind of find the scent clean and pleasant and, at any rate, it doesn't linger. This went well with the serum. This product usually comes in a jar and is thicker so, for me, personally, it's probably best as a nighttime moisturizer.

CBD Fx CBD Aloe Vera Sheet Mask - Retail Value $6.99

Vegancuts is really hitting the CBD hard this month. There were also some gummies from this brand in the snack box. I don't know that I believe all the miraculous properties ascribed to CBD, most especially because antioxidants aren't known for "flushing toxins and chemicals" from the body which is what the information card says. Antioxidants *may* help fight damage caused by reactive oxygen species, which increase with heat or UV exposure (i.e., not "chemicals"). At any rate, your liver and kidneys deal with toxic substances quite well on their own, and if your liver and kidneys aren't up to the task for some particular substance you've had exposure to, like heavy metals, you need a hospital, and putting something on your skin isn't going to have any effect on your liver and kidneys anyway. But, this was a pleasant and moisturizing sheet mask to use and the serum was thick but didn't take forever to dry/absorb.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $74.64 for this month’s Vegancuts Beauty Box. That's more than three times the month-to-month cost of the box, which is great. Although there were some dubious scientific claims made about some of the products this month, I did like the overall collection of products, particularly getting a cleanser, serum, and moisturizer to use (for what it's worth, they worked well together). Other than the cleanser, all of the products and brands were new to me, and I am the sort of person who'd rather find new products in a subscription box instead of getting the same old things over and over again, so the discovery aspect was appreciated as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, if you order before the end of the month, you'll receive the March box.

ACTIVE DEAL: $40 off. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Cleanser $5.53
  • Inhaler $2.77
  • Serum $1.13
  • Moisturizer $11.37
  • Mask $2.15

Hi Ragan! What did the inhaler smell like? (‘Balance’ I think?)

Oh, and I just noticed the Avant item is 10 ml (.34 oz) but their card says it’s .5 oz.

Thank you for your scientific approach to reviewing! I raise my eyebrow at the CBD trend too sometimes : )

Mostly like mint. There are some other things in there, like cypress and geranium, but peppermint oil is the first ingredient. Kind of smelled medicinal as a blend, overall, I suppose, but not pure menthol-like (so not really enough to clear your sinuses on its own).

Sss

Your science background is exactly why I love your skincare reviews so much.
