March 2020 Target Beauty Box “Dermatologist Trusted Skincare” Review

This month’s box is all about turning to the experts for sun protection, eye care, and healthy hydration.

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received an in-store coupon that also includes a promo code you can redeem online.

Moving on to Target Beauty Box March’s skincare picks!

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Rehydrating Cream, 0.51 oz – Estimated Value $9.50 (Buy 1.69 oz for $31.49)

Typically I don’t care for skincare with fragrance in it, but this moisturizer is a gem. I have had a lot of luck with Vichy skincare items and even bought a few items that Target Beauty Boxes have introduced me to. This cream has a rich texture, and it feels luxuriously hydrating without feeling oily or waxy. My skin soaked this up immediately; I woke up with my face looking fresh and my skin plumped.

Vichy Mineral 89 Fortifying & Hydrating Daily Skin Booster

Vichy Mineral 89 Eyes Hyaluronic Acid Eye Gel Cream

I have tried this duo, thanks to Target Beauty Box, and I have bought each product several times. The Skin Booster is a clear, wet formula that boosts hydration; this water-like gel is so easy to spread across your face without using a ton of product or rubbing too hard. Hyaluronic acid soaks into your skin almost immediately, and you’re left with baby soft, glowing skin! It is crazy the difference this product has made on my naturally dry skin.

Vichy Eye Fortifier has the same consistency, although it is a bit heavier with a milkier appearance. I like the hydration this provided, and it is the perfect eye product to wear under makeup, especially when your undereye has a lot of creases but desperately needs the moisture.

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, 0.08 oz – Estimated Value $1.73 (Buy 0.5 oz for $10.79)

I bought this in the past, and I remember really enjoying it as a nighttime eye cream. It is a thick cream; a little bit goes a long way. It helped plump the creases on my eyes overnight, which helps makeup on the skin look a lot more natural. This helped to slightly depuff this new mom’s eyes after a dismal attempt for a night’s sleep, which I was very thankful for!

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion, 0.17 fl oz – Estimated Value $0.76 (Buy 3 oz for $13.49)

I really like most of CeraVe’s products, including this daytime moisturizer. SPF is so important to prevent premature aging, so I load my face, neck and hands up with at least SPF 20 every day before heading out the door. I applied this SPF 30 on top of my normal moisturizer, and it felt light on my skin, leaving no greasy residue or detectible white cast behind.

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, 0.5 fl oz – Estimated Value $0.47 (Buy 16 oz for $14.99)

My skin is neither normal nor oily, so this foaming cleanser simply didn’t work for me. I always reach for cream cleansers because they are the best option for dry skin, but I was pleasantly surprised this gentle cleanser didn’t give my face that tight, uncomfortable feeling I hate in most foaming washes. It is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic for those with acne-prone skin. It didn’t break down my makeup, but I usually use micellar water before I cleanse, anyway.

La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser, 0.5 fl oz – Estimated Value $0.55 (Buy 13.52 oz for $14.99)

This cleanser was the most exciting find for me from this box. It is a challenge to find a facial wash that is unscented, gentle and is a match for dry skin, but this cream cleanser checks all the boxes for me. It felt lovely on my dry skin, and when I rinsed it off, it left my face feeling hydrated without leaving a filmy residue, which is something I find a lot of cream cleansers do.

La Roche-Posay Tinted Broad Spectrum SPF 50, 0.1 fl oz – Estimated Value $0.75 (Buy 4 oz for $29.99)

I wasn’t expecting a tinted face product in this box, but I was stoked to try this SPF when I saw it. I love tinted moisturizers with SPF for an easy one-step, natural makeup day; this particular product feels like silk on the skin! The universal tint works for my complexion, but I’m not sure how anyone with darker skin would get on with it. It has broad-spectrum SPF 50, and is a water-resistant, non-greasy formula—a total win!

Verdict: Target Beauty Box is really on a roll! The brands in this month’s box are some of my all-time skincare favorites, so I was thrilled to try everything, even if the samples were a bit small (which I am used to with skincare, especially). This box is such a great way to stock up on travel essentials, and I love seeing the different products and brands Target has to offer. The value of this box is $13.76, almost double the $7 box cost (which includes free shipping).

  1. I decided to get this after reading the review despite 2 foil samples. I generally like French Pharmacy products. Abby, have you tried La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ Intense Repair Moisturizing Cream? I think I got a sample from previous Target Box and it saved my skin during last winter while traveling with long flights. It is a rich cream and it seems like people use both face and body. I think it goes well with the cleanser 🙂

  2. After Abby’s review and the positive comments, I ordered one. Excited to try the Vichy moisturizer, and know I will use most/all of the other items.

    • Enjoy!! 🙂

  3. I got this box and loved it as well. I’ve literally used every product in the box. Like most, especially love the moisturizer.

  4. I got this box. I do like the jar from Vichy. The cleansers is what I’m using most.

  5. I actually liked this box even though the products were small. The sizes were not listed on the website when this was 1st available. I have found everything useful except for the tinted sunscreen. It’s ridiculously tiny. If you have redness you want to correct, this would work great. If you are darker skinned, this is light. If you have natural pink and red undertones, this product is yellowish. It does not work for my medium to tan skin tone with red and pink undertones.

    • I made a similar comment about the counter-productiveness (is that a word?) of tinted sunscreen, but the MSA gods decided not to post it. I agree with you.

      • I use the word counterproductive a lot. 😂
I have a friend who has some scaring on her face from domestic violence. It’s bad enough what she’s been through, but to have the evidence on your face every single day??? She’s had a few procedures over the years and she’s really doing awesome! With makeup, you would never know until she smiles. But she still smiles all the time. 😍 So, for her, me trying this primer and then giving her my input on it, she ordered the box and then a full size of it. For her skin tone, it works like magic! So, I guess I get it for some people. She’s a huge advocate and works directly with women who are in the same situation. She’s going to be urging them to make a variety of shades. It was the 1st time in over a year she left the house with only 1 layer of foundation.
I’ve made comments on MSA that never show up. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  6. The find of the Vichy hydrating cream made the box for me. Absolutely buying the full size when I run out of this little pot.

    • Got it for family vacation one for me and one my daughter. Creve is what already use and now I have for the plane 😊score would had buy anyways

    • Is the fragrance strong or does the smell go away

  7. I bought this box and loved it! The Vichy Moisturizer and the Cerave Eye Cream are my favorites but I loved everything. I know a lot of people were unhappy with this box but I thought it was a great deal for $7.69. Hopefully Target has more great boxes in April
