Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review

The first things I grabbed from the package were two cards with a note from Katie (the curator and aromatherapist behind this box!), an intro to Simply Earth's "Essentials Oils for Beginners" course, and all the info on the included oils this month. It also let me know that 13% of my purchase cost was donated to Disrupting Traffick, a non-profit dedicated to providing survivors of human trafficking supportive services. It makes me feel extra excited to support companies that give back and deliver awesome boxes.

Also included were 6 recipe cards and coordinating stickers to use on all my handmade items!

Now, for the oils I received this month:

Fir Needle Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $11.99

From Simply Earth:

Fir needles are believed by some to have the power to purify the air and the soul because of their disinfecting and calming properties. The burning of fir needles after childbirth was a common practice in the past, believed to impart good health for the mother and newborn. The pitch of the tree was also used to treat problems like menstrual irregularities.

This oil felt a little wintery, but we are still having cold days here and when I blended it with some sweet orange and lavender it was downright dreamy in a diffuser!

Frankincense Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $19.99

From Simply Earth:

Frankincense has been used throughout history, with its most notable appearances in the Bible and in ancient Egyptian history. Historically, Frankincense was used by ancient Egyptians for incense, treating wounds, and easing arthritis. In more recent times, Frankincense has been used in soaps, perfumes, and even in some pharmaceutical products.

Frankincense is kind of hit or miss for some people but I just adore it! It has such a resinous and earthy scent. As someone who burns a lot of incense in her home, it is a great complement when used solo in my diffuser.

Coffee Essential Oil Blend, 5 ml – Retail Value $12.99

From Simply Earth:

The coffee plant was discovered in 11th century Ethiopia and spread to the Arabian peninsula in the 14th century. Coffee has white flowers with cherry-like fruit that smells similar to jasmine. Soon after its discovery, coffee was found to have medicinal properties by boiling it in water.

I am not a coffee drinker and I don't particularly love the scent, so this was a little bit of a miss for me personally. If you do love coffee though, you are going to adore this! It is such a rich and robust coffee scent. I am not sure if this is something you would use in a diffuser, but if you like making coffee scrubs this would be a truly great addition.

Veins Blend Essential Oil, 15 ml – Retail Value $16.99

From Simply Earth:

This blend is wonderful for warming intact skin. Bye-bye, Veins! Essential Oil Blend helps to increase blood flow to hands and feet that always seem to be cold, while also helping to reduce spider veins that are a normal part of aging.

I am lucky enough to not have spider veins (yet!) so I won't be using this blend for that purpose. I am thrilled this is also warming oil though, because my hands are ALWAYS cold! I added a few drops to some sweet almond oil and massaged it into my hands. I could tell a little bit of difference! I also just like this scent by itself (it is a blend of cypress, juniper, and lemon) so I can see myself diffusing this for the fragrance alone.

Rose Hydrosol, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $9.99

I absolutely love the smell of roses, and this hydrosol was a nice addition to this box! I use it in a recipe below, but I also love putting a few drops into my palms and patting it into my face. It smells great and adds a little moisture! This liquid is made from the water that is leftover from diluting rose essential oil, so it is significantly more gentle while still having loads of botanical benefits.

French Green Clay, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $5.99

Lastly, also included was a small bag of beautiful green clay. Clay is wonderful for deep cleansing pores.

I decided on the Clay & Rose Face Mask recipe for my experiment this month!

I don't generally partake in clay masks because I have drier skin, but lately, I have been feeling like a homebound greaseball so it was a good opportunity for a reset.

This project also requires minimal supplies! I just grabbed my usual mask mixing bowl and brush, as well as the rose hydrosol and the green clay.

I have no clue where my teaspoons are so I just kind of eyeballed the portions of each I added to the bowl. If it felt too runny, I added in a pinch more clay.

It was super easy to mix with my brush and turned a lovely green color. It smelled like earth and rose petals!

Here is a little "swatch" directly from the bowl.

And here is a photo of me in the mask waiting for it to dry while staring listlessly out my window at strangers walking down the sidewalk. I left this on about 8 minutes.

I didn't find this mask super drying! It actually just seemed to soak up any extra oil without stripping my skin. I think the next time I mix one of these up I will include a few drops of my favorite oil serum and leave it on even longer.

Verdict: Simply Earth was a ton of fun this month! The coffee oil was really the only miss for me, but I am sure I can find it an appreciative home. The other oils were fabulous and the rose hydrosol might be my favorite included item. Making my own simple mask felt really spa-like and I can see myself making this a regular weekend activity for myself.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.
