Henny+Roo February 2020 Chicken Box Review

Well, look who decided to be social! Green grass is emerging and the hens are excited! I know it has been a little while. I seriously blame these two primadonnas.

We will check in with Satchel and Dizzy a little later on in the review. You know, when the treats make an appearance!

Our box comes complete with an info card explaining all of the items arriving this month.

Farmers' Helper UltraKibble, 28 oz - Retail Value $8.99

This is like cereal for chickens! The girls were way into these little puffed kibbles. They are a great extra source of protein for the hens while they wait for all the spring and summer bugs to come back out for snacking. They were a lot more enjoyable to handle than the dried worms that normally arrive in this box.

Dizzy always likes to let Satchel take the first taste. Out of politeness or paranoia, I am not sure.

They made quick work of this handful!

I thought Satchel's comb was looking a wee bit pale on the tips, but this is likely due to age rather than cold. She is an older gal! Treat time is ideal for these sorts of closer examinations that the girls generally have no time or patience for.

Witch Hazel Wipes

These are great wipes to keep around for minor scrapes. Witch Hazel is a natural anti-inflammatory you can use anywhere on a hen other than her eyes!

Brooder Bottle Caps - Retail Value $7.39

These caps are more geared to chicks or injured birds in isolation but are really great to have on hand. They attach to most soda bottles and allow chicks to get to water in a clean fashion. This is also a great way to introduce baby chicks to a dripper system!

Thor's Forge Chicken Love Sign - Retail Value $4.00

How farmhouse chic is this rustic sign? I think I might save it to place inside the spring wreath I usually hang on the front of the coop!

Rooster Lollipop

Just the sugar fix I needed! This lollipop arrived a little broken, but I don't even care. It was deliciously sweet and shaped like a rooster!

Heart Stamp and Non-Toxic Ink Pad

Oh, this is CUTE! This stamp is meant to be used on the fresh eggs that you share with friends and family. It is non-toxic so it just adds an extra element of cuteness to a basket of fresh eggs.

The New Pioneer Magazine

Ahh, Will's favorite periodical! He absolutely adores when these show up in this box, and I do too, because they are so expensive to buy! This one has loads of spring prep tips which I am sure he will put into action very quickly.

Laying Box Liner

Our last item comes in every box and is a super handy laying box liner. This helps keep your eggs clean after the hens leave them in the elevated boxes they use to lay. Since Satchel has decided she isn't done quite yet, these are really nice for her to lay eggs on.

Bye for now from Tucker and his girls! See you soon!

The Verdict: Henny+Roo is even more awesome now that I am going to be at home a lot more often. Wandering outside to visit the girls has become a source of enjoyment and stress relief, and our visits are enhanced by this box. The warmer it gets the more time I plan on spending with them.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the welcome box or the April box. Per Henny+Roo:

Orders placed the 1st - 10th of the month start with a Welcome Box, renew on the 15th, then continue the following month, shipping on or about the 5th of the month. Orders placed the 11th - 31st start with next month's box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $39.95, meaning each of the 7 items inside has an average cost of $5.71.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

We have four chickens and two ducks. I think I need this box, however I wonder if I can share the treats with the ducks.

I don’t have chickens nor do I plan on getting any. However, I love reading the review of this box because it’s different from the many subscription boxes that are out there.

Why is a one time box cheaper than the subscription?

Love the review, especially the photos.

The stamper first the eggs is a cute idea, though I think they could have taken it further than just a heart stamp. Even “hen made for you” as a play on the handmade stamps crafters sometimes use? Or even just a chicken theme stamp. And maybe in rooster red!

Hi Megan! It was a welcome surprise to see your latest Henny & Roo review! Thank you, it’s just a delight to read through. I bet Satchel and Dizzy are pretty happy with Spring coming on. Love the photos, of course, and although it’s a slightly blurred action shot, it’s great to see the girls going hard core on the Ultrakibble! I must try to get some for my girls. Gotta say, I was a bit freaked out by the card description of the use for the witch hazel wipes, to ‘apply to vent prolapse’. Enough to make me wince, for sure. Still, it seems like it must be legitimately helpful given the even-more-direct instructions on the wipes themselves. Yikes. I’m glad they put the ‘this isn’t a substitute for taking your chicken to the vet’ note on there. I can’t believe how good Tucker (and Charlie) are with the girls. They must be picking up a bit of zen energy from you and Will. The Henny & Roo box continues to amaze me with the variety of chicken-themed and chicken care items they pack in there. Such a great sub. Hope you and your family (including pups and chicks, of course) are doing ok in these troubled times. Thank you for the delightful distraction. Dizzy and Satchel are looking to be in tip top shape, and may it continue! I’m looking forward to seeing how they are living the good life next month.
