Birchbox's The Complete Sleep Kit Review

The info card inside gives a brief description of each of the nine items included in the kit.

Popmask Starry Eyes Indulgent Self-Warming Eye Mask – Estimated Value $4.00 (Buy a pack of 5 for $20)

I've gotten these self-warming eye masks several times in various Birchboxes and always enjoy them! As soon as you open the package, the eye mask is activated and begins to warm up. It takes only about 30 seconds and then you'll have a warm eye mask for about 20 minutes of relaxation. I like to use this in the evening before bed to put me in a wind-down mood. Alternatively, you could use this mid-day when you need a short break from your busy day. Once you've finished, you just toss it out.

ettitude Bamboo Lyocell Hair Scrunchie Set in Cloud Pink, 2 ct - Retail Value $15.00

This super cute scrunchie set makes me wish I had way more hair. It comes with two sizes and both are made with a pretty pink bamboo silk substitute. They're both incredibly soft but do manage to stay in my hair which is nice. I've been using the smaller one for holding my hair back when I wash my face at night even though the scrunchie itself is larger than my lil ponytail, haha. I think these would be super cute in a top bun for running errands for someone with a lot of hair (cough Megan cough). I'm a big fan of ettitude and really love the sleep mask I got of theirs in another box last month.

HUM Beauty zzZz Dietary Supplement, 7 tablets - Estimated Value $2.33 (Buy a bottle of 30 for $10.00)

I feel like I've gotten these before and they didn't work for me but now I'm changing my tune. It could be that I'm actually just naturally tired at night these days but these seem to be helping me zonk out and stay zonked out until the morning. They contain melatonin, vitamin B6, and calcium. The packet they sent has 7 tablets which is a full weeks-worth of sleep to test out before purchasing a whole bottle.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye, 0.1 oz. - Estimated Value $7.40 (Buy a full-size 0.5 oz. for $37.00)

Kiehl's is such a great brand and I've been lucky enough to try many of their products through Birchbox (like this discovery kit). The Midnight Recovery Eye is an eye cream you can put on before bed to work as you sleep to reduce puffiness and reduce dark circles. I need more time and probably more that this tube has to offer to see real results on my dark circles but I do enjoy the lavender scent and richness of the cream as a ritual.

thisworks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, o.17 oz. – Estimated Value $1.97 (Buy a full-size 2.5 oz. for $29.00)

This is another item I've seen several times in my Birchboxes but like the warming mask, I am a big fan. This sample of pillow spray isn't incredibly large so that makes is great for travel, when I need it most. I have a hard time falling asleep in hotels or other unfamiliar places so every little bit helps to make me feel more relaxed. The spray is formulated with lavender, patchouli, and chamomile which are all known sleepy scents. A few spritzes on my pillow and the ol' sandman isn't far away.

Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Night Oil, 0.17 oz. - Estimated Value $18.70 (Buy a 0.5 oz. bottle for $55.00)

I have to say- this is one of my favorite nighttime products. I want my face to be coated in oil 24/7 and although I wouldn't recommend to overdo it with this, it is super relaxing and hydrating. The bright blue color comes from the blue tansy ingredient (from the chamomile family) and also contains retinol which can help reduce the signs of aging. Don't be afraid of the blue color- it won't stain your face and dissipates as you lightly tap the oil into your pores before bed. This really puts me in the mood to sleep so it's the perfect item to include in this kit.

Scapes Apothehair Signature Sleeping Hair Mask, 0.67 oz. - Estimated Value $3.97 (Buy a full-size 4.22 oz. for $25.00)

I trust K-Beauty already in skincare and makeup so I felt pretty optimistic going into this Korean hair mask situation. Following the directions, I used a small dime-sized amount to spread into damp hair, paying close attention to the ends. Since I'm more of a morning showerer, I used this in the morning in lieu of a conditioner after shampooing. Even though it says it's a sleeping hair mask, you can use it anytime you'd like, as long as you don't wash it out. I felt that this definitely made my hair more glossy and it seemed less frizzy as well. I'll be trying to rotate this into my hair routine once a week.

Derma E Essentials Overnight Peel, 0.25 oz. - Estimated Value $2.34 (Buy a full-size 2 oz. for $18.75)

Another great little travel item so you don't have to skimp on your skincare routine while traveling! I've used this overnight peel a couple of times in the past and I don't think I was paying close enough attention to it to notice the difference. This is a product that I put on my face before bed and rinse off in the morning, only by the morning I've already sort of forgotten about it. Even though it's called a "peel" it doesn't physically do any peeling. The contained AHAs gently exfoliate my skin chemically as I sleep (not a scary thing, I promise) and when I wake up and wash it off, it's like fresh skin. What made me really appreciate this was that I used it the night before I did a full face of Milk Makeup and something about that day had every step of my skincare and makeup routine make me GLOW. I think this was the first step in that wonderful skin day. And- I thank you, Derma E!

Birchbox Sleep Mask

To be honest, this mask didn't grab me. I find it waaaay too narrow to properly block out the light I need it to. The elastic band on it is also enormous on my tiny peanut head so that it refused to stay on as I slumbered. Cute design, just poor execution in my opinion. Good thing I have so many other sleep masks already!

Verdict: The Birchbox Complete Sleep Kit is a great value and an awesome buy if you have trouble sleeping when traveling. I have a makeshift kit like this of my own, but if you want a one-and-done kit, this is a good one. The only thing I didn't like was the sleep mask which I wish would have just been an ettitude one (perhaps instead of the scrunchie set). The total value I calculated for the nine items here is $55.71 which doesn't include the mask since it's not available to purchase on Birchbox's site. That means they're giving it a $6.29 value (since they say the whole kit has a $62 value). I don't think that's too far off even though I don't love it.

To Wrap Up:

None of the coupons either here or elsewhere seem to work for me. I have $50 worth of kits in my cart (the sleep kit and the lip kit) and I added the mystery sample with $35 but I can’t get anything else to work. Any advice?

Also, I meant to add that sometimes Birchbox will have a GWP showing available and when you try to add it to your cart it will say it’s not available. You should try again for a different one if that happens. Hope I’m being helpful instead of confusing! 🙂
