Laurel & Reed January 2020 Review

Laurel & Reed comes in a beautiful gift box with a black ribbon tied in a bow. For that reason, they pack it in an outer cardboard box so the presentation doesn't get ruined.

There's a card that simply states all of the things you can expect from the subscription and another info card that features a lovely print on one side with the items clearly listed out with retail prices and short descriptions on the other.

Onekind Pore-fectionist Refining Facial, 2.5 fl oz  - Retail Value $24.00

This packaging is A+, first of all. Secondly, clay masks are one of my favorite skincare items ever. This tube contains pink kaolin + bentonite clays to draw out impurities in the skin along with lactic acid (an AHA) which promotes collagen production (thus reducing fine lines) and salicylic acid (a BHA) which will help unclog pores. In addition, this mask aims to also balance the skin and reduce redness with barley seed extract which I can use for sure. I want more time with this baby to see more results, but for now, the ritual of using this coupled with all of its benefits is giving me a reason to continue use.

Marine + Vine Tahitian Oil, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $62.00

Kudos for this brand for putting a body oil in a (classy) fine spray bottle. The main reason I don't use body oil is that it can be so messy and whether I put it directly onto my skin or transfer it from my hands, I just can't apply it evenly. This is super easy to just spritz onto an area like my skin without drenching it so I can spread it around. It has a bright floral Tahitian gardenia scent to it with a touch of coconut so it smells VERY tropical and lovely. Since I'm not dumping too much onto my skin, this bottle is going to last me quite some time, using in moderation.

100% Pure Retinol Restorative Overnight Balm, 1 oz - Retail Value $49.00

Wow- this balm is not messing around. I think this is a real powerhouse when it comes to moisturizing the skin. This heavy balm is made with all-natural ingredients and utilizes "vegan" retinol derived from carrots along with avocado butter, vitamins C + E, and a slew of other helpful ingredients for the skin. I used a small amount to smooth over my face before bed and in the morning my skin felt plumper and really well taken care of. It does feel quite greasy until it seeps in which is why I like using it at night so that it has plenty of time to do its work. It's especially helpful in this super dry winter climate when my skin just feels dry and dull.

Ettitude Bamboo Lyocell Eye Mask in Pepper - Retail Value $15.00

I have been getting an influx of sleeping masks lately but I have to say that this 100% organic bamboo number form Ettitude is my favorite. The fabric is incredibly soft and I appreciate that it's a vegan alternative to a silk eye mask (which I honestly don't love that much). Since I like to slather on the facial products at night, I love that this is machine washable as well so if I get anything on it, I can toss it in with my laundry and make sure I'm not transferring any oils onto a clean face. This mask covers my eyes entirely so no light gets through and I found it to be really comfortable to wear too.

The Verdict: For January, Laurel & Reed sent four treats that covered all sorts of care for my body to help me rest better, feel better, and look better. I think the eye mask and clay mask took the cake for me, but all four are winners in my book. The total retail value this month is $150 which is almost triple the subscription cost.

My “dilemma” is that I’ve been subbing to L & R since October, 2019. I am wondering what repeats there will be. That is why I’m hesitant to pull the trigger, though I really want it.

I just got my mini mystery bag, and I got:

Terrene Orchid Dew Exfoliating Night Treatment (size not listed, but looks to be 1oz) – $34 value
Fifth & Root Eye Nectar (.17oz) – $32 value
Plant Apothecary Matcha Antioxidant Face Mask (2oz) – $24 value
Captain Blankenship Sea Mist Refreshing Toner (4oz) – $15 value
BeeCause Grapefruit & Ginger Body Scrub (12oz) – $14.99 value
Olomi Black Ocean Sheet Mask – $6 value

Total value: $125.99 (not bad for $36! –> $29.95 + shipping) They promised a value of $125+, and they were spot on!

Overall, I’m super happy (again!) with this mystery box. For some reason, I’ve never been inclined to sub to Laurel & Reed, but I sure do love their mystery boxes, and think they’re a great alternative to be able to experience the products they include in their boxes. 🙂

Thanks for mentioning 🙂 I haven’t been subbed to L&R since last Summer, and I was waiting for their mystery boxes to come back (or another 20% off discount) to try them again. It looks like it’s been almost 6 months since I last got their mystery boxes, so I figured this is the perfect chance to get a box from L&R again. I absolutely loved the mystery boxes I received last year (I think I bought one of each size last time, lol). Their mystery boxes totally gave me IBE box vibes, which has always been my most favorite box to receive. I can’t wait to see what I get! Would you mind sharing what you received? 🙂

The face mask and retinol were my faves. The retinol will last a long time, too, considering how heavy it is
