Together Unplugged January 2020 Box Review

The first item in the box is a welcome note and content card. This card shows the items that were included in this month's box with a little bit of info and instructions for each of the activities. They also have symbols to indicate what skill you will be using for each activity!

We also received a January calendar with unique, fun, and patriotic reasons to celebrate in January 2020! This fun calendar features the well known holidays, as well as unique days such as "Dress Up Your Pet Day" and "Compliment Day!" The other side of this card lists ideas on how to celebrate all these special days. They also include social media links to share photos of your family celebrating these days! How fun is that?

Because Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated on January 20, we also received a well written informational guide featuring a biography about Martin Luther King Jr., as well as interesting facts about what he is best known for. I love that they have included important historical information in a way that is easy for kids to read and understand! The flipside of that sheet is a guide to learn morse code! Why morse code you ask? Well if you didn't know, January 11, 2020, is "Learn Your Name In Morse Code Day!" This too includes historical information on who created this system and why. How cool is that?

Goal Sheet

I am loving this January 2020 Family Goals sheet! On this sheet, your family is to sit down and come up with a goal to try and achieve as an entire family unit, and as individuals. At the end of the month, you can reflect on the goals, and talk about things that were not met. Hank, who is 7, suggested our family goal should be to put 200 miles on our snowmobiles this month. Charlie, who is 4 suggested we should bake more pies together this month!

Expressions of Gratitude Sheet

On the opposite side of the goal sheet, we received a gratitude sheet. This worksheet lists the weeks in January and has different questions for each of those weeks. This exercise is to have you reflect on your thoughts and helps us to become gracious, happy, and healthy beings. Because we received the box so late in the month (we just signed up for it then,) we wrote about "the thing I love the most about my town or city is...." Our entire family came to the same conclusion: having room to roam free and enjoy the outdoors!

Family Activity Pack

We received 2 manila envelopes, and inside one of them included all of these goodies! We received a word search and crossword puzzle, and 3 laminated, reusable puzzle cards! We had so much fun with these! There were 9 riddles, 9 jokes, "Would you Rather" questions, conversation starters, trivia, and rebus puzzles. My kids thought the jokes were hilarious, and my husband was super good at the riddles! These are definitely going in my purse for long commutes and dinner conversations at restaurants!

S.T.E.A.M Craft: Straw Rockets

Crayola Classic Color 8 Pack Crayons - Retail Value $0.98

This month, the STEAM craft featured straw rockets! We received 5 rocket ships printed on white cardstock. The directions were to color the rockets with the included crayons, cut them out, tape a pipette on the back, trim off the bottom of the pipette, insert the straw, and launch! This was so much fun! Each member of our family made one, and we launched them all at the same time to see who would win. Mom was the champion!! I liked how they went above and beyond with this project and asked questions to extend this activity. We learned about different angles, and Hank followed the suggestion to add another fin and see how it affects the flight. FYI it helped!

52 Mini 2 oz Party Cups - Buy a pack of 100 for $6.99

Here we received a set of 52 mini party cups and a handful of rubber bands. We also received some activities to complete with these supplies. (Read below for more!)

Minute-To-Win-It Challenge Sheet

Check out this nicely laminated sheet of cup games! I love Minute-To-Win-It games, and these were super fun and really hard! My boys got a kick out of the challenges, and my husband and I were getting pretty competitive! I can't wait to bust this out for game night with the girls!

Family Team Building Activity

Our family team building activity for this month was a challenge to build the tallest tower. This sheet lists the rules and even includes social media tags for some possible fame! The opposing side is a reflection of the experience you had with "The Tallest Tower." I found this to be very interesting and it made our family really think like a team. It brings me back to middle school science and some of the labs we had to complete, and I liked it!

I snapped a couple of shots of Charlie and I working on one of our many towers. I bet we spent over an hour building and creating different shapes and structures with these cups!

Tenzi Game - Retail Value $24.95

Let's just stop and take a minute to adore the color of all these dice! I love these!! Besides being beautifully colored, this game is extremely easy to play and a whole lot of fun! There are many versions, (which the instructions explain wonderfully) but it can be as simple as rolling all of your dice as fast as you can until you get all of the same number. We love this game, and while we didn't have this version, we do have the NFL "Fanzy" game which is very similar. I just can't get over how pretty these dice are!

This was a great game for our entire family, but it really engaged my 4-year-old. Charlie loved finding the matches and counting all of the dots. This really is a great exercise for number recognition and counting!

Lunar Landing Zero Gravity Logic Game - Retail Value $14.99

Another game we received is this zero gravity logic game. There are 4 levels of challenges in which you have to move your Explorers to get the Shuttle to the Emergency Entry Port. The game itself is nicely made and stores into the game box. My 7-year-old thought this was really cool and was able to breeze through the beginner cards! I've never seen this game before, and it is a welcome addition to our collection!

Set of 4 Kazoos- Found here for $0.57-$0.95 each

No Kazoo Day would be complete without a kazoo! We received 4 of these buzzing instruments! If you weren't aware, January 28th was kazoo day, so we celebrated by setting the timer for 5 minutes and buzzing like bees until the timer stopped... then we put them away... for a long time...

Highlights Magazine January 2020 - Get a year subscription here for $39.96

I LOVE Highlights magazine, and I am so excited that they include the monthly edition in each and every box! I grew up reading Highlights and they have so many great articles and fun activities included in this publication! They sure pull out all of the stops with this box!

Hank is 7 and he loves reading the articles in the Highlights magazine. He was especially excited to see the article about "Jumping Up to the Pros!" He can't wait to watch the Super Bowl!

USDA Organic Popcorn

While I am not entirely sure about the brand of this popcorn, I love this inclusion! January 19th was "Popcorn Day," and while we didn't get to celebrate that day, we sure did enjoy this snack! The little blurb about Popcorn Day mentioned that this subscription may start sending popcorn in every box, and I LOVE that idea! It really rounds out an already great experience.

Q & A A Day For Kids 3 Years Journal - Retail Value $12.49

I love journaling, and I try to write daily but tend to struggle with what to write about. Here we received a journal just for kids to engage in conversations over 3 years with different questions. I love the fact that you repeat the same questions each year so you can see the changes in your children's answers! I found this to be extremely unique and awesome! We have 2 days in the book so far, and my kids keep it by the table so we don't forget to fill it out!

Aren't Charlie's answers sweet? Hank was still deciding what to write but ended up answering that he was proud of earning a trophy at the County Fair for a tractor pull and earning ribbons at the fair for his entries.

Certificate of Recognition

Last but not least, we have the Certificate of Recognition. This certificate shows that in January 2020 we were a family that was focused on making time for the good stuff. What kid doesn't love an award? And we had a heck of a fun time earning it!

Verdict: This month's Together Unplugged box centered on quality family time and fun. We learned so incredibly much with this box! It truly is an entire month's worth of experiences! The curation of this box is exceptional and we loved everything about it. Honestly, this might be my new favorite subscription! I loved the inclusion of the games, activities, snack, and reading material and couldn't have been happier with everything they sent. When I started calculating the retail value, we received over $61 of physical items and a ton of extras that should be added to that amount as well, which is almost $15 more than the cost of the box. I have found this subscription to be extremely rewarding, and a truly ultimate experience to share with our family.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, the January box is sold out, so you will receive the February box.

What a cool box! I have had Tenzi for years and I get so excited every time I get to introduce it to someone new. It’s an almost perfect game to me. It can be played by many people or just a few, travels well, has tons of variations (we purchased a deck of cards separately that that includes 50 ways to play Tenzi), and as you mentioned it is so pretty and colorful! I’m so glad you commented on how cute it is too because I always wondered if I was the only one who was so thrilled about that aspect. 😂

I also purchased a book that is similar to this one for my dad on his last birthday. It has placed to record things about yourself and includes memories, life events, traits, etc. I asked him to fill it out a little every now and then and then give it to me when he’s done so I’ll have a written record of him. The book you received is going to be a priceless treasure to you! 😊

This box is great. You can’t put a price on family time like this. Especially these days. Love it! Thanks for reviewing.

Joy- Do you remember where you got the book for your dad? I think that is a great idea, and now that my dad has retired I think he would actually write in it. I would love to have a book like this with my dad’s writing.

Hi Becca, what a thorough and adorable review from you and your family! I’m so impressed with this box. I wish they shipped it to my country, as it would be so helpful during school holidays. I can’t imagine the thought and creativity they used in designing this box – it’s awesome! This (like the mystery-solving boxes for adults) is truly the type of box where the curation really amplifies the value. Thank you for the great review.

At first I thought another overpriced box, but I think this is great and was picturing my son and his family enjoying it. I don’t think I’d subscribe, but would gift it. Great review.

Anna Banana

What a sweet review. Even though I don’t have any young children anymore at this time for something like this, I sure enjoyed reading about it. It looks like a great sub box, and I would jump on it in a heartbeat if I had children to do it with. Alas, I’ll just have to settle on living vicariously through your reviews. Thanks for making me smile.
