January 2020 Target Beauty Box Review

This month’s box is all about using clean beauty and home products.

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received an in-store coupon that also includes a promo code you can redeem online.

Moving on to Target Beauty Box January's clean living picks!

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Body Lotion, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $0.99

During my pregnancy, I reached for a few of Palmer's products, and I feel like this clean beauty brand puts out some really great, safe options. This lotion smells like coconut oil, and it has a thinner consistency, though a little goes a long way. I like this little bottle for traveling, and I'll likely hang on to it and keep refilling it. This would make an awesome everyday body moisturizer, especially since it is paraben, phthalate, gluten and sulfate-free.

Lumene Nordic-C Cleansing Balm, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $1.78 (Buy 4.2 oz for $14.99)

I am not a stranger to cleansing balms, and this one performs better than expected. It did a fine job removing my makeup, although I had to go in with micellar water makeup remover to pick up some streaks of mascara and some fine glitter. I found that after I used this cleanser, it did seem to leave my face glowing, and I really liked how supple it left my face feeling and looking. I've been having some issues with dry, dull skin, and this balm seems very promising!

Lumene Nordic-C Arctic Berry Oil Cocktail, 0.07 fl oz. - Estimated Value $1.75 (Buy 1 fl oz for $24.99)

If skincare packets make you frown, you are not alone! Especially when they seem promising, like this particular packet. I love oils for my dry skin, and this felt moisturizing and the light fragrance didn't seem to irritate my sensitive skin.

Native Deodorant Mini in Charcoal, 0.35 oz.- Retail Value $2.99

I missed getting mini deodorants in these boxes, so I was excited to see this Native sample! The last time I visited Target, I was intrigued by this clean, modern packaging. It is a softer deodorant, so it doesn't go on in a thin layer, and you can see the pale grey on your pits if you don't rub it in. I love the almost fruity, masculine scent, which stayed with me throughout my workday and helped keep me feeling fresh.

Yuni Travel Shower Sheet Body Wipe, 1 Wipe - Retail Value $1.50

I squirreled a few of these away for my hospital stay when I had my baby, and they really came in handy. I received them as free samples from a few Sephora orders, and I loved having them as a refresher for when I wasn't quite ready to hop in the shower. The large sheets are pretty durable and left my skin feeling clean, although it dried sticky, so I felt like I needed to apply lotion afterward (which I always do, anyway).

Burt’s Bees Fluoride Free Purely White Zen Peppermint Toothpaste, 0.85 oz - Estimated Value $0.90 (Buy 4.7 oz for $4.99)

Burt's Bees products always draw me in, and I am game for trying more natural toothpaste options. This fluoride-free version is a mellow mint that left my mouth feeling fresh and clean. I enjoyed using this, and it felt good taking a break from fluoride, though I'll definitely go back to a fluoride toothpaste for the benefits.

Love Home & Planet Laundry Detergent in Lavender & Argan Oil, 8 fl oz - Retail Value $2.99

This laundry detergent smells so fresh and clean. Lavender has a tendency to be too strong for me, but when my towels were done drying, I couldn't stop smelling them. It seemed to clean my clothes as well as my Mrs. Meyer's detergent, and the full size sells for a few dollars less. This small bottle will clean 10 loads of laundry, and after I run out, I will be tempted to repurchase.

Mrs. Meyer’s Oat Blossom Hand Soap, 0.18 fl oz  - Estimated Value $.06 (Buy 12.5 fl oz for $3.99)

Mrs. Meyer's makes the best home products! All of their fragrances are so beautiful, and I can't wait to buy this one the next time I visit Target. It has a creamy, soft scent that stayed with me well after drying my hands off.

Up & Up Premium Rounds, 2 ct- Estimated Value $0.06 (Buy 100 for $2.99)

Of course, I wasn't thrilled about this sample, but honestly, you can never have enough cotton rounds. This isn't the first time Target sent out this pack of two cotton rounds. I use this kind every night with micellar water to pick up tricky eye makeup, and they are durable and soft enough for my sensitive eye area.

Verdict: I was excited for this month's Target Beauty Box, even though it has a low value. I will definitely use everything, and I found some products that totally won me over. This box is a great way to stock up on travel essentials, and I love seeing the different products and brands Target has to offer. The value of this box is $13.02, not quite double the $7 box cost (which includes free shipping).

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

That detergent is really good. Enjoyed using it although had no idea how much to put in. I just read on this thread that there are instructions. Wish I knew about that before I used it

Ah yes, nothing says “clean” like individually packaged, single use samples.

I loved that there were so many items to try in this box. I’m tempted to buy this box again.

The cleansing balm worked really well.

The bottle of laundry detergent said “10 loads”, but there was no information on how to measure that amount (1 cap full? 2 cap fulls?).

Doesn’t Target realize how cheap 2 measly cotton rounds look? At 3 cents each, couldn’t they send a packet of 10 or 20??

The 2 pack of cotton rounds is kinda funny but now I find it useful. Especially when I have to travel some. Some is well in advance and some are like today, I gotta go later today. I had already tossed the cotton rounds in my bag and the switched out makeup melt off in a jar for the makeup melt off in the tube. I agree with you though, a package of 10 would be much better.

If you peel the label on the detergent the directions on how much to use are there 🙂

Thank you; you are my hero!

I liked the scent of the laundry detergent, but it didn’t clean my clothes well.

I absolutely loved the detergent, so much that I purchased dryer sheets in that scent. I also purchased an all purpose cleaner in a different scent from the same line. The first time I used the detergent I didn’t realize that my clothes smelled so good because of that and I couldn’t figure out what smelled so good. Then I realized it was the detergent!

I actually found this to be a good value for me. I like the laundry detergent for throw blankets. I will use the cotton rounds, Palmers and LUMENE for travel and donate the rest.

This isn’t the best representation of “clean” items. The love home and beauty has added fragrance in it, and is often rated an 8 on the think dirty app. Same for many Meyers products.
