SlutBox by Amber Rose is a lifestyle and beauty subscription geared towards sex-positive people (often containing lube, condoms, pasties, and other sex-forward items). It's $29.99 a month and tends to be a little controversial because of its name as well as some of the items included. They've just gotten a box update, so "SLUTBOX" is no longer on the front of the box- it's now inside.

NSFW – this post may not be safe to read at work due to the name.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

SlutBox by Amber Rose November 2019 Review

Psst- hey! Did y'all forget about SlutBox? She's not dead. She's just waaaaay behind on shipping. We finally received the November box on January 9th. Strangely enough, this month also finally unveiled their new box design which is plain brown on the outside and bright pink and white on the inside.

I'll be honest, for that long of a wait, I thought we'd have some brand new products, but low and behold, they dubbed it a "Mystery Extravaganza" (although the theme is "Cuffing" as in, cuffing season) and it only contains past items. Perhaps this is fine for newer subscribers, but for ones who have been around since the beginning, it's a little "whomp whomp."

Since most of these are past items, I thought I'd take a trip down past reviews and go ahead and reuse my thoughts as they did with the products. Without further ado, let's get into it:

Dr. Botanicals Pomegranate Noir Indulgence Cream, 1.69 oz. – Retail Value $29.99

This was originally featured in the April 2019 SlutBox. It was $37.99 back then but has since dropped to $29.99. Here's what I thought of it then:

"At first, I thought this was a hand cream because of the tube, but it turns out it’s a facial moisturizer. I’m not familiar with Dr. Botanicals, but they hail from the UK. The metal tube the moisturizer comes in is kind of nice and has a red floral pattern on it. I was turned off by the scent at first since it’s a bit strong for facial cream, but it’s actually growing on me quite a bit. The main ingredients are coconut oil and Tiare flower extract which gives it the floral scent I’m picking up. The full list of ingredients doesn’t list pomegranate so I’m not sure where that came from, but I’m enjoying it nonetheless. Once I squeezed some out, it became more clear that it’s intended for the face since it has a milky color and isn’t as thick as a hand cream. It does a great job moisturizing and keeping my skin soft, so color me impressed."

Sutil Mint Body Glide, 2 oz. – Retail Value $15.50

Also from the April 2019 SlutBox:

"Personal Lubricant is no stranger to SlutBox and this month’s offering is in the form of a 2-ounce travel size of water-based mint body glide. It has a really slippery consistency and while it does taste slightly minty, it’s not my favorite thing to eat. The mint (which is organic) also adds a bit of a tingle as well and the discreet size can be tossed in an overnight bag easily."

SlutBox Selfie Light in Black – Listed Value $19.99 (Similar found here for $5.99)

3 for 3 with the April 2019 SlutBox, although my last one was pink.

"I’m embarrassed to say that I was a little excited when I saw this in the box. I don’t take a ton of selfies, but any lighting that isn’t daylight is usually pretty rough (aka not so flattering). This plastic device clips onto your smartphone and emits three different levels of light in a ring which is meant to give your face the perfect glow. While I’m on the fence at how flattering this bright light is, there’s no doubt it will allow you to take much brighter pics while out at night or indoors when the lighting isn’t good. This product doesn’t have a brand on it and doesn’t seem super high-quality but it gets the job done. It comes with a USB charging cord which means it doesn’t need batteries and there’s a little button on the back that allows you to toggle through the three brightnesses. I feel like the retail value is pretty inflated based on a similar product I could find online which isn’t out of character for SlutBox."

SlutBox Custom Pink Cherry Bomb Reusable Tote – Listed Value $10.00

This was first sent with the August 2019 SlutBox. I guess I have two now, which is not horrible because I can always use more grocery bags.

"This is a legitimate custom design, complete with Amber Rose’s signature on a tag when it’s fully collapsed. This is a sort of knock off of Baggu or any of the foldable grocery totes that are around, but the fabric is a little less luxe. It’s a baby pink color and has “Cherry Bomb” written in script on the front in red with illustrated cherries around it. This is great to toss in your purse or in the glove box of your car to reduce plastic bag waste or simply to tote around anything you buy while shopping. I find this to be a super useful item and will happily add it to my arsenal."

Hollywood Fashion Secrets Fashion Tape, 36 strips - Retail Value $7.08

Okay, it seems I was wrong about this product. I had received a different product from this brand that seems to have been phased out and replaced by these in the July 2018 SlutBox. But I have received the fashion tape in another box which I always thought seemed suspiciously similar to SlutBox, yet on the opposite end of the customer spectrum. 🤔At any rate, these strips aren't really for me since I am a casual gal and rarely wear clothing that I need to tape to my body. These would surely come in handy for those who like plunging necklines though.

Beth Bender Beauty Eye Candy Eyeliner Stencils - Listed Value $2.99 (Get a starter pack here for $9.99)

Once again, I am wrong because these eyeliner stencils are not a repeat. My bad! The sample pack contains two sticky-backed stencils that you can place around your eyelid to get a perfect winged eyeliner look. While I think these can be useful, I don't wear eyeliner so they are a bit lost on me. I feel so old and uncool.

They included a coupon code for a product called Keto Detox Tea in the box as well.

Verdict: November's SlutBox was one of the most disappointing to me only because it included mostly items from past boxes that I already have. As I mentioned at the beginning, this may be a pretty decent box to newer subscribers, but may also be confusing because it seems like everyone may have gotten different items at random since there was no info on the info card for them. Still no word about December although from their December 24th email to subscribers they said "December's Box will ship shortly after November's, with January expected to ship around its normal date. Please reply to this email with any questions at all!" Only time will tell!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is gone. If you sign up today, you may get February as your first box although PLEASE NOTE: they are behind in shipping and have not yet shipped December or January.

From SlutBox:

SlutBox ships once per month, mid-late month. If you subscribed on or before the 14th of the month, you will receive the current month's box with our regular shipment. If you subscribed after the 14th, your first box will be the next month's box, unless otherwise stated.*

SlutBox is subject to availability and all boxes are limited edition.

*NOTE: If you subscribed after our cutoff on the 14th, you may have a chance to be included in a "second" shipment of the current month's box. (Quantities are limited and opportunity for a second shipment is not guaranteed for all members. Cratejoy subscribers are not included in these second shipments). Members who are included in our "second" shipment will be renewed sometime before the 7th of the following month, in advance of that month's shipment.

If you're confused about when to expect your first box, submit a request or email us at [email protected].

Value Breakdown: At $29.99 for the cost of this box you're paying $5.00 for each of the 6 items.

This box is awful. I signed up in October, didn’t get my first box until the middle of
December, got my November box in the beginning of January. There was absolutely nothing of value in either box.

A total waste of money. Thankfully they cancelled my subscription and initiated a full refund for the 2 boxes I haven’t received.

The writing is on the wall — get out before they file for bankruptcy

I just finally got my December box (don’t judge — I only paid $15 for it back on Black Friday) and one of the items, a trial pack of Cora feminine products, contained a coupon code inside…….for subscribers of Bless Box.

They are literally using leftover items from another sub box. You can tell that they phoned it in and just threw in whatever. The theme was “Ice Ice Baby” but none of the stuff was anywhere near that theme. It was totally random. The card insert only listed one item reveal and the rest were labeled as mystery items. It was so odd.

I got:

-Mixed Chicks hair renewal foam (personally my hero item)
-Smoky eye pencil in black (I think it was called NONE. Unknown brand.)
-Salon Professionals nail polish in Rose
-The Brothers Apothecary Hemp Tea (obviously left over inventory, as the label said to check the zine for ingredients list and the zine no longer exists)
-Cora feminine product trial pack
-LOV blush stick (my third one, ugh)
-Avlo False Eyelashes (one set)
-Coloured Raine eyeshadow pan (it arrived busted)
-Kiss Professional Setting Power (also arrived busted and got powder all over everything)

I wouldn’t be surprised if this box goes under by March at the latest. The whole concept was a great idea but poorly executed. Where’s the lube? Where’s even the cheapie bullet vibrators you can get for $6? A mini pack of condoms? Maybe an erotic book mixed in with beauty items? Just. Something. Something other than whatever this is.

I cancelled this scam of a box and got a refund only after threatening to contact the Better Business Bureau.

I saw this box and got interested in the eye liner sheets! Ended up buying a pack on eBay for $12, the site requires shipping.. so it’s about the same cost.

Realized after buying them.. you would have to do your eye shadow last and not first. I’ve been trying to practice my make up. Usually do my liner last.

With these looks like it would mess up your shadow.. now worried my shadow will mess up the liner after getting it right. Haha

“NSFW – this post may not be safe to read at work due to the name.”

It’s sad how aside from the lube, this is basically another overpriced beauty box.

Anna

I asked them on social media if they were just going to keep being a beauty box that included occasional condoms and lube and they said yes. I was subscribed for the first few boxes and that was enough of this box for me.

Amy

It’s not even slutty.

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

It really isn’t. 🙁

This box? Meh. But, Fashion Tape? That stuff is the best! It will hold a hem, keep cuffs rolled, close a gap on a shirt placket, tack down a collar, keep sleeves pushed up, hide a bra strap, stop a shaper from rolling, etc. It’s useful for a lot more than preventing boob slippage in low cut fashions.

Marne Orenich

I will have to give these uses a whirl! Thanks, Carrie!

If they wanted to make this box better, how about a vibrator or sex toy.

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

Amen. I think they sent one ONCE. Or even, like, a little impromptu overnight kit you can keep in your purse…something?

I have fashion tape, never use it. But I brought it to my sister’s wedding in case someone needed it. Mom’s shoe rubbed a bit so she stuck some on it.

I think this box is on its last leg. In my experience, when a box gets way behind on shipping and recycles a lot of past products it’s nearing the end. That actually makes me kind of sad. Not because I subscribe but because when I see post for this box I know my day is about to get a little brighter. I really love this site.

I will say that this looks like It has some relatively useful items for once, but really someone tell me what is slutty or empowering about thus (amber rose’s mission statement god the box). I gave a chance at launch and kept it for 3 months and never once got a good box. Gave it another chance when I heard it was getting better and had it for two lousy months. How is this box still in business?

It definitely has gone downhill. In the beginning, they had the zine which was quite awesome in my opinion. That is long gone. They do have a blog but it doesn’t look like they update it much.

I can’t believe MSA pays for this, what a waste of money and there are so many other boxes out to spend their money on. Perhaps some in the office enjoy it.

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

I totally get what you mean. Here at MSA we want to review boxes so that readers who are considering spending their own money on it can get a true look at what to expect. That may include some that fall short.

I appreciate MSA reviewing this box. I tried it when they had the free penguin vibe with a subscription and I really like the penguin. I thought the rest of the box was junk. I appreciate the reviews because they always make me laugh.
I don’t think this box will be around much longer.

Tiffany Schmidt

This is definitely not worth $29.99 even if you are a new subscriber. I dont know why anyone would pay that much for that mix of junk. You could get so many other sub boxes with that amount of money that are actually worth it

I think it’s great that this box keeps being reviewed. The review definitely tells it like it is and that’s so important for people who might be interested in subscribing! I would not give them my money as they show all the signs of closing up shop any day.

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

Agreed! The really late shipping plus using mostly repeat products does not bode well…So it’s better if potential subscribers know about that so they don’t pay for a long subscription, then end up losing money if they close up shop.

Maybe if you stop reviewing this it will die a natural death?
On the other hand, we don’t have the Oreo box to kick around anymore…
