Alterna CAVIAR Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Priming Leave-In Conditioner, 0.85 oz - Estimated Value $5.44 (Buy the 5 oz version for $32)
This is a lightweight leave-in conditioner formulated with omega fatty acids to combat the signs of aging hair while keeping it soft and shiny. I didn’t even know that hair could show signs of aging, but I liked that this didn’t weigh down my curls and gave some slip for when I was combing through my damp hair to make sure it was tangle-free.
Davines OI All in One Milk 1.7 oz – Estimated Value $13.05 (Buy the 4.56 oz version for $35)
I love this stuff- it makes my curls absolutely shine, and my hair felt so nourished after using. This definitely is a bit heavier compared to some of the lighter weight products in this kit, but if you have thick hair like me it will work incredibly well.
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle, 1 oz – Estimated Value $2.94 (Buy the 8 oz version for $23.50)
This has four and a half stars with 140,000 reviews on the Birchbox website, and I am right there with the other reviews- this is pretty great. It doesn’t weigh my hair down, but it does make it easier for me to comb through my damp curls. I really don’t heat style my hair, but it is nice to know that this offers UV and heat protection, too.
Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect, 1 oz – Estimated Value $4.77 (Buy the 6.7 oz version for $32)
This was another great, lightweight leave-in that provided shine and moisture to my hair. I liked it, but I am not sure it performed well enough that it would be one I want to repurchase.
Oribe Run-Through Detangling Primer, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $19
This spray has a lot of great ingredients- amino acids, watermelon extract, coconut, pomegranate, and apricot oil are just a few. I enjoy the results I get from this when I spray it on damp hair before running a wide-toothed comb through my hair. I can’t see myself ever running out of leave-in sprays, but if I do this would be a contender for a repurchase. I also love that the value of just this product is more than the cost of the entire box! As with all Oribe products, this smells delightful.
Verdict: I don't think it is possible for me to have too many leave-in detangling treatments, so this box was a big win- especially with the value of that Oribe product. None of these products felt like misses to me, and I think even though they worked for my thick curls they would also work well for those with fine hair- they would just use way less than me. Birchbox promised a value of $55 for this kit, and by my math, the total value adds up to $45.20. That is still a bit below the promised value, but it is three times the cost of the box.
