Allure Beauty Box February 2020 Review

A handy booklet has all the product info inside.

NYX Pro Powder Brush – Retail Value $17.00

FYI: Subscribers will receive either the Nyx Pro Contour Brush OR Nyx Multi-Purpose Buffing Brush OR Nyx Pro Powder Brush

I am completely aware of the fact that I am now a brush hoarder. I am not quite at 100 brushes, but I am embarrassingly close. Am I sick of brushes? Nope. I freaking love them. I think this is because I also have a painting background, so I have always collected brushes for that purpose and this feels like an extension of that sort of collecting, but for my face instead of a canvas. Even with all of my brushes, this is my first NYX brush and I am very impressed. I love the solid plastic handle and matte black ferrule. The bristles are synthetic and feel so soft and wonderful against my skin. They also grab up the right amount of product and diffuse powders across my skin beautifully. Did you know if you buy these brushes from the NYX site you can have them custom engraved for a $2 upcharge? I love that! Not that I need more brushes, but... I kind of need an 'MSA Megan' brush, right? Or three?

bareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion Serum, 7.5 ml - Estimated Value $8.70 (Buy a full-size 50 ml version for $58.00)

Though this wasn't my favorite serum, it does have some great stuff inside! Scanning through the ingredient list revealed niacinamide, squalane, poppy extract, and ginseng. I was less crazy about the alcohol which was also on that list, but I have drier skin and try to avoid alcohol in my regular-use products. I did really like the texture this stuff left behind on my face. It worked really well under makeup and felt like almost a primer finish. It also had a really great scent. What did you think of this?

belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask, 10 ml - Estimated Value $4.53 (Buy a full-size 75 ml for $34.00)

FYI: Subscribers will receive either the belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream OR belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask OR belif True Cream Aqua Bomb

Um, how cute and helpful is this little blue lid? I know I always get frustrated when I get a peel open sample and then I have to either toss it or store it in a zip-lock bag to continue to use it without exposing it to the open air. This lid really solved that problem, and it is a good thing too because there are quite a few uses inside this lil' pot! In fact, if I had to guess, I would say I could easily get about 10 applications without even being too careful. This heavier gel goes a long way! I loved slathering it on before bed last night and waking up to soft and calm looking skin. The hydration locked in all night and I even went easier on my moisturizer the next day. Add in the yummy fresh scent and I liked this very, very much!

Honey Jarret Super Beau'tea Mask - Retail Value $3.00

I sheet mask all the freaking time, so I am always happy to get a new formula to try. This one is made of a well-fitting soft pink fiber sheet covered in clear serum with just a barely-there rose scent. I didn't notice anything super groundbreaking here, but I also don't need a sheet mask to blow my mind. I just expect it to calm my skin, add hydration, and be relaxing, all of which this one did well.

Appeal Cosmetics Luxurious Lipstick in 'Muse' - Listed Value $21.00

It looks like Appeal has changed up their lipstick packaging and I like this look. I also like the springy pink shade inside the clear and gold tube. It had great coverage and a nice satin finish. Not hours and hours worth of wear here, but I generally don't get that sort of longevity from a creamy finish anyways, and I never mind reapplying. The pink is very girly but in a sophisticated and wearable way, meaning even if you aren't into pinks, you might end up enjoying this.

Is it spring yet?

Olay Regenerist Retinol24 Night Moisturizer, 5 g - Estimated Value $4.06 (Buy a full-size 48 g for $38.99)

Our final item was a little pot of Olay night cream. I don't use Olay, but my mom and grandmother have for decades, and they both look great, so I am certainly not knocking it. I tried this night cream after a really long day full of snow and wind, and I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and smooth my skin looked the next morning. I am also really, really appreciate that this formula is fragrance-free, and lacks that very distinct Olay small that I don't like very much. The box also came with a $3 coupon, which is always nice.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of at least $51.29 even without the value of the lipstick, which I could not verify elsewhere online. Considering the lipstick is full size, I feel like there is some good value this month for sure. I think my favorite thing was that makeup brush. (I know, I know...) I also really liked the lipstick and highlighter, and I was so impressed by the sample quality of the belif sleeping mask. The sheet mask was another win, and I was surprised at how much I liked the Olay sample. All in all, I quite enjoyed this box and think it was well rounded and fun.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

… Did anyone else have this lipstick show up in an unmarked package eight months late? I was so, so confused.

I received one of my box and it was the exact same variation. Lipstick color looks good to me! Fingers crossed that I will receive different brush and eye cream in the second box 🙂

I just got my box today. Same box as above except for the eye cream instead of sleep mask. It’s a solid box imo. I’m kind of unhappy about the alcohol as well in the serum, but on the positive side, it’s not denatured alcohol. That’s the worst! Love the lipstick! Mine appears lighter than this on but it’s so soft and flattering! Love the Olay and coupon as well. For me Olay is always a safe bet when unsure of the ingredients in everything else I have on hand.great box overall. Thanks for the review!

Have been disappointed in the Allure box for a while. I remember when their boxes contained higher end products. Now it’s just like the Ipsy box.

Charlotte

To each their own, I guess. I cancelled Allure for a long stretch in 2019 because I wasn’t happy, but resubbed in November and have been thrilled with every box since then. Bareminerals, Belif, and Wander are all brands I’m happy to see in a sub box, particularly if it’s a product I haven’t tried before, and I also like discovering new brands.

AH

I completely agree. The boxes have been going seriously downhill over the past months. Seems like the “full size” items are mostly drugstore brands, and the non-drugstore brands are tiny samples. This month’s box was a huge disappointment. Every month I keep holding on because I have major FOMO that as soon as I drop, the next month will be the one that goes back to the awesome full size product…but every month of late I’m let down. Allure used to be a great box, but not anymore–I really hope they step it up!

I first signed up for January and thought that the box was fantastic but I do not care for February at all. It’s a big disappointment.

disneyjoy1970

My Feb box just arrived and I LOVE the variation I received. I got the exact variation as shown in the review above. The lipstick is beautiful, the brush is super soft and so glad I got the Belif sleeping mask. Totally worth the $15.00 investment.

Claire

It appears that the Appeal lipstick is now called Muse Ultra Creme Lipstick on their website and states pre-order on Jan.1st. It shows that all their Luxurious lipsticks are out of stock.

Got my box today.

It’s identical to the review box.

Disappointed to get the sleeping mask. I wanted the eye cream and I guess I’ll just have to buy it, though I have an Amazon box showing up in a few days, so hope springs eternal.

I’m a little surprised by the lipstick. It’s MUCH lighter than in the pictures and less orange than what I saw in the Allure unboxing video. The case is also much lighter than you might think by looking at it.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Got my Amazon box that I don’t remember ordering, and it too is identical to the review box.

And did I mention that the lipstick reeks of coconut? Really hate coconut.

Reply ButtonReply

Les

Its also made in China, I am pretty dissapointed in this. I don’t feel this lipstick is worth anywhere near $21. My heart sank when I read that it was made in China, I try not to use anything on my face or in or on my body that isn’t made in the US, Canada or Europe. China requires companies to test on animals and I don’t trust the stuff they put in it.

Pink5

Also disappointed in the lipstick. It’s slightly lighter than my natural lip and reeks of coconut.

I just received my box. I’ve been resubscribed since the hot tools offer (December?). The only variation from this box is that I received the eye cream from belief which I’m happy to have. I love 💕 this lipstick 💄. It’s pretty and feels great on my lips.

My Allure box arrived today. I had canceled for a few months because I was so tired of the variations. Resubbed for January, forgot to skip February, but there’s a few things I will use. Called to skip March this morning.
February box contents: The sheet mask, the BM serum, Olay regenerist (not using), WB highlighter (not using), Variations are: NYX powder brush (yes!), Belif Aqua bomb true cream (it’s a repeat from idk how many subs…. but I’ll use it) and the last item is cargo lipstick in Punta Cana ( This is the same exact brand and shade of the last one I got from Allure. I would think I would have gotten a different shade, but I got the same gaudy, hot pink shade!) I honestly even feel bad about putting it in the donation bin.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

I agree! That shade of pink does not work for everyone there for it should not be in the box. I canceled Allure For the small sizes! They sent us a judge box compared to the Tiny Olay. I’m over it

Reply ButtonReply

Dawna

I almost feel bad donating really small items, but then again, if I didn’t have anything…
I expect sizes like that from bb or sephora. Allure has had some tiny samples of the good stuff and larger sizes of the not so good stuff lately. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pink5

Hot pink looks good on deeper skin tones.

Reply ButtonReply

Sam

The olay clogged my pores so bad. I normally have a few but my face looked like a game of minesweeper, and where you would contour, on my face was full of clusters of acne, sore, ichy, puss filled terribleness

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Sounds like an allergic reaction. Poor you.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley C

Engraved brushes? I’ve never cared to own a Nyx brush until right now 😂 I’ve been really into personalization lately! And that lipstick is gorgeous too!

Reply ButtonReply

Dawna

I saw your comment so I had to read the whole review to see what you’re talking about… I could see doing that for someone as a gift. But, I would definitely have to have colors to choose from. That would be something really cute to give to a teenager, daughter, niece, friend, etc. A whole brush set with their name or something special engraved on them and then have them match their decor or favorite color. Still made me giggle though.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy S

Is everybody getting that pretty lipstick color, the likes of which I don’t think I’ve EVER received in a box, or will it be random? (In which case I’ll probably get yet another dark red, brownish purple or beigey nude I can’t use)

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

If you get an Appeal lipstick, you will get the shade shown.

It’s the Cargo that will vary.

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

I think there are two or three possible BRANDS of lip product so I’m sure there are color variations as well. It’s such a shame because I also really would love to get this color. I’m starting to feel like Allure just isn’t my cup of tea anymore. They were in fire for a while but lately the best items are variants and just like Boxycharm, Boxy Premium, BoxyLuxe, and Ipsy, I always seem to get the worst ones.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawna

Waiting to see which variation I got.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole

Thank you for pointing out when products have alcohol in them Megan. It makes me immediately lose interest in a product and lack respect for the brand a little. It’s always possible to formulate without alcohol, so why include an ingredient that’s known to break down the skin’s barrier over time? It just doesn’t make sense, so that detail is important to me! I can’t wait to try that lipstick with the way you described it! I’m excited for most of what’s coming in this months box!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Nicole! I am glad this helps! I am trying to be more conscious about mentioning alcohol in skincare especially, though I am far from consistent. Admittedly, I tend to be a little more lenient with makeup! Thanks for reading and leaving me a comment 🙂

ShadowFaerie

Hi Megan. I heartily endorse indulging in the custom engraved brush (or three). 😀
I always enjoy your reviews. They’re always informative and help me make better purchase choices. Thank you.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I mean… I kind of have to, right? I am glad you love the reviews and I am really happy they help you pick products you love. Truly, that means a lot to me. <3

Reply ButtonReply

Jody

Hi Megan. Too funny because the Bare Minerals serum was on my table to try today. Thank goodness the scent was not overpowering for me! It did feel like it dried to a primer on my combo skin. I will give a few days to see how it holds under the makeup.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I kind of liked the scent more than I think I did the whole product, but I am a scent junkie. I do wish it was alcohol-free though!

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I’ve gotten samples of the serum before and used them with no trouble.

Personally, I think it’s a good product.

Mellissa

I own just 1 makeup brush which is an eyeshadow brush from a FFF box yard ago. 🤣 I am thrilled with that brush and the rest of the box.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I think my MorpheMe sub was the catalyst for my brush enthusiasm. If you ever want to expand your collection, check that one out, but prepare to become obsessed with brushes.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamey

Be careful using the morphe me sub. If you do get it, used a prepaid Visa card because many people’s card has been hacked and also charges snuck on there after months and some years later…so make sure to use a prepaid card for it

Mellissa

Thanks Megan!

tasha

Doas anyone know what the amazon box has for Feb? I thought they showed the items but it doesnt?

Reply ButtonReply

DeeCee

The box I got from amazon is exactly what Megan got in her box. I love the Appeal Lippie!

Reply ButtonReply

Tasha

Thanks! I hope I get the same. The only item I don’t care about at all is the laneige sleeping mask as it does nothing for me. I do like the eye cream so would be happy with that instead.

Rachel

Has anyone gotten their box from amazon yet? What did you get? I’m specifically interested in what lipstick shade amazon is sending. Megan’s Muse shade looks really pretty.

Reply ButtonReply

Coco

I agree, that shade is lovely. But don’t get your hopes up. It’s almost guaranteed that Amazon subscribers won’t get it.

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

Oh but they did! Amazon got this exact same varient.

Lisa

OMG, a hundred brushes! That is quite the collection (no judgement 😘). I am just starting to wear makeup again after a 10 year hiatus. Looking forward to a new brush since mine have seen better decades.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I absolutely have too many. But I just love them.. there are worse problems to have, right? MorpheMe was the subscription that started the obsession. Def peek it if you want to build yours!

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Ipsy’s been doing bad things to my brush collection. As in making it huge. I don’t know if I’ve hit triple digits yet, but if the Glam Bag Plus has brushes, I will usually get it (them).

Charlotte

This is a solid box. I’ll never say no to a full-size lippie. Any Amazon subscribers get their box yet? What did you get?

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I got this same box from amazon!

Reply ButtonReply

Toni Marie

I was very happy with my box this month. I like the brush… I like that i get them in my sub box for less than they cost from from the brand… the face mask are also a personal favorite as well.

Reply ButtonReply

Nat

When I see a brush in a sub box, it’s an automatic skip for me. That and a highlighter. Needless to say, this month was a miss for me and I am glad I skipped.

Reply ButtonReply

Dea

A brush is an automatic “yes” for me. The more you have, the longer you can go between brush cleanings, and they last many years.

Reply ButtonReply

Nat

Not me. I already have way too many that I got from BH Cosmetics and those are fantastic

Keyla

Any march allure spoilers yet? I hope theres something to make me think about resubscribing
