Birchbox November 2019 "Winter Hydration Kit" Curated Box #3 Review

There are two info cards in this month's Birchbox. One details the included six items. The other card talks about how to get a free makeup brush kit with a $75 shop purchase.

Georgette Klinger Coconut Cleansing Milk, 15 ml - Estimated Value $1.65 (Buy a 200 ml full size for $22.00)

My mom really likes this brand and she has purchased the Vitamin C Cleansing Gel after I gave her a sample. I was curious to see if I liked this coconut formula as much as we both liked the gel, in the hope it would be a great Christmas surprise for her. While I did really like this cleansing milk, I do think the Vitamin C Gel is superior in terms of texture, cleansing power, and scent. This was a little too coconut for me personally. It did a fine job of cleaning my face and did leave it moisturized, it just doesn't compare to the gel IMO. This sample could have certainly been a little larger too.

H2O+ Beauty Hydration Sensitive Milk Serum, 5 ml - Estimated Value $9.00 (Buy a full-size 30 ml version for $54.00)

Loved this stuff! It looks just like a milky cream, but disappears on skin like a gel, leaving behind so much softness and hydration. It also has a soft scent that I thoroughly enjoyed and is packed with amino acids that improve skin texture over time.

philosophy renewed hope in a jar water cream hyaluronic glow moisturizer, 0.23 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.49 (Buy a full-size 2 oz version for $39.00)

When I tried this out, I was initially surprised at how much of a balm texture it had. When I peeped at the full size and saw it comes in a pot, this made sense. I really, really like this stuff. It absorbs beautifully and leaves my skin perfectly primed for makeup. The hyaluronic acid ensures that my skin is hydrated all day long and glowing. It has that great philosophy scent that I have always loved. Just take my money.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream, 0.16 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.54 (Buy a full-size 1.69 oz for $48.00)

This was a repeat from one of my September Birchboxes, but I love this stuff so much I am thrilled to get another tube to prolong the inevitable purchase, especially since that list keeps getting longer and longer. If you have dry skin, you really need to try this stuff, especially with cold-weather skin coming up soon. It is so heavy and wonderful, especially for sleeping in. I found I can even wear it during the day under makeup with awesome results. A little goes a long way and even if you typically don't suffer from all over dry skin, you can use this on those sensitive spots that do need moisture, like around the brows or nostrils.

Pūrlisse Daily Lip Nourisher with Mango & Shea Butter, 0.16 oz - Estimated Value $6.74 (Buy a full-size 0.38 oz for $16.00)

I thought I would like this more than I did, especially since it was so well-reviewed. Pūrlisse products are rather hit and miss for me for some reason. I didn't love the scent or taste, and the texture wasn't heavy enough and felt like I just applied a face cream on my lips. Visually, it is non-descript; a clear balm with minimal shine.

DERMA E Hydrating Eye Cream with Hyaluronic Acid, 0.5 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $29.50

This was a full-size product which is always exciting! I know people either love or hate eye creams, and I get why. It can seem a little pointless if you have a really good serum and moisturizer combo, right? I actually love them but I only use them in the AM. I find it pointless to use them at night since I have so many other things happening in my routine. In the daytime? Yes, totally. It is the first thing I reach for in the mornings in terms of skincare (I am not a morning face washer), literally right when I roll out of bed. My under-eye skin is really dry and sensitive, so I feel like giving it a little edge in the morning before focusing on anything else really helps! This is a nice heavier cream that tingles a little and adds so much moisture to that parched skin because of the hyaluronic acid.

Verdict: This curated Birchbox has an estimated value of around $55.92, which is high compared to most of last month's selections. Of course, a huge chunk of that value is that eye cream, but I am pleased with it. I liked how skincare-focused this assortment was and how most of the formulas were geared to dry and potentially winter-worn skin, a reality that is just around the corner for a lot of us. The only real disappointment for me was the lip product, but it might just be me being weird! In closing, I plan on buying the Dr. Jart+ cream and philosophy moisturizer. Bye money, bye.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

AHHH!!! I am not seeing it as on sale. Did I miss it?

Oh! I forgot to mention it does not appear as if it is on sale when you pull it up on the website but it is. What I mean to say is that none of their sale items are shown as being on sale for some reason until you place them in your cart. That might be why you didn’t realize it was on sale. The sale price is only reflected once the product is in the cart. Sorry if I just made it more confusing!!! 🙂
