  • The Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages.

From Lillypost:

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 a month. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost September 2019 "Birthday!" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Birthday" since they are celebrating their third anniversary! On the back there is a note encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if they've won before.

Pets: A Slide and Play Book by Wee Gallery - Retail Value $9.95 (found here for $7.73)

This little book is fun and just interesting enough to keep little ones engaged! This book goes through several different types of pets: a dog, goldfish, rabbit and a cat and they describe them in short, simple sentences. On the opposite page, there is an illustration of each pet with several sliding panels that start out mixed up but allow you to slide them into the correct place to reveal the full image of the pet. I love the simplicity of the black and white with just a few pops of color along with some great textures and patterns - all of which are so visually appealing to children!

Shorty & Clem Blast Off! by Michael Slack - Retail Value $17.99

Clem has just gotten started on a new spaceship kit when Shorty shows up asking if he can help. While Shorty claims he can be helpful, he doesn't have a great track record when it comes to actually fixing things so Clem is a bit apprehensive and tries to avoid letting Shorty help. Eventually, Clem realizes that it's a bit more difficult than he thought and so he accepts Shorty's help. These two are quite an unlikely pair, but they are fun characters that will appeal to kids. The story is a bit simple, but the illustrations are interesting so this is one that kids will love to look at by themselves!

Lola Dutch When I Grow Up by Kenneth Wright - Retail Value $17.99

Lola Dutch can't quite decide what she would like to be when she grows up. Should she be a ballerina? An inventor? A botanist? She's found so much inspiration in books and just can't choose. Fortunately, she is very good at everything she attempts and she has a bit of time to decide before she grows up. This story is full of imagination and beautiful illustrations along with a storyline that would create some great dialogue as the child imagines what they might like to be themselves.

This book is also very special as it contains a few dolls and an outfit to cut out and use and the book jacket opens up to reveal a grand stage! I am saving this one to give to my daughter for her birthday because I know she will absolutely love this aspect of the book!

Verdict: This was such a nice mix of books from Lillypost and there was something to appeal to each of my children. The Wee Gallery and Lola Dutch books were my favorites since they were so unique and engaging, but I think the simple silliness of Shorty & Clem was the perfect book to round out our collection! This is consistently a favorite box in our home each month and I'm always happy with the value we receive. This month our books came to $45.93 which is awesome for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the October box.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
