Bluum Box July 2019 Review

This Bluum box was sent for my son, Parker, who is 3 years old. Lately, my boxes have been arriving later and later. This is my July box that I just received in September. They have also been sending my goodies in a BabyGuyBox box instead of their signature red boxes. Maybe they are going through some sort of transition? I wish that they were a little more transparent with customers, but I am pretty happy with what we received this month, so that definitely helps!

PlanToys Fruit Set - Retail Value $12.00 (Found here for $9.95)

My mom has a set of fruit similar to this at her house and friends of ours do too and my kids always love playing with them! This set is a bit smaller, but still equally cute with the detailed wooden fruit and the little knife to go along with it. You can "cut" the fruit in half since it has velcro holding the two halves together. This wooden set is a quality set from an eco-friendly brand with a focus on sustainable play. They use materials such as rubberwood and water-based dyes and even their manufacturing process is considered sustainable, which I think is pretty cool!

Melissa and Doug Child-Safe Scissors – Retail Value $2.99

This pouch comes with two pairs of child-safe scissors that won't cut hair or clothing but will cut paper in two different ways. The blue scissors will cut straight lines while the red pair will cut zig zags. These glittery scissors are fun and perfect for cutting beginners like my son. I thought they cut very nicely for plastic scissors.

Mudpuppy Forest Friends Box of Magnets - Retail Value $9.99 (Found here for $8.63)

We love these magnets and actually already have the zoo animal set, but are more than happy to have some more! This set comes with 20 different animals and forest shapes in nice bright colors. These are super cute and the quality is great, as are most of the toys from Mudpuppy!

Stephen Joseph Canvas Painting Set in Sea - Retail Value $7.00

This paint set is so fun! It is actually a mini 8x8 inch canvas that comes with a set of six paints and a small brush. The paints are eco-friendly and water-based and since ours look a little dry, they recommend reconstituting them with a bit of water. I love that the canvas is already printed with images, but that they can still use their creativity and make it their own through their color choices. This is a great beginning painter set!

Sticker Friends Bear Reusable Sticker Book by Priddy Books - Retail Value $4.99

My kids love reusable sticker books like these and this one is especially cute with the bear-shaped book. This will be a perfect car activity! I like that each of the pages has a corresponding sticker page which is great in case you want to spread out the activities for your child. There are 300 stickers throughout this book so it is sure to provide a decent amount of entertainment. Plus the bears are super cute!

Verdict: With Bluum's current shipping issues aside, I was really happy with this month's box! All of the brands included were familiar and trusted to my family and while it was a bit of an art-focused box, this is actually perfect because my son is really just starting to express a strong interest in art. These items are all the perfect way to provide some guidance and direction in his artwork while still allowing him some creative freedom. Everything felt very age appropriate and I am especially excited about the fruit set which is something that I know all of my kids will enjoy playing with. The total retail value of the items we received this month is actually relatively low at $36.97 which is just over the $34 (plus free shipping) cost of the box. Even so, I think the value is there for us this month simply because these were all quality items that we will get a lot of use out of.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? All orders are processed the first of every month and shipped out on the 9th. If you order today, you will start receiving a box for next month.

Value Breakdown: At $34 for this box, here is what you are paying approximately for each item:

  • Fruit: $11.04
  • Scissors: $2.75
  • Magnets: $9.18
  • Canvas: $6.44
  • Sticker Book: $4.59

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
