August 2019 Petit Vour Review

Each box comes with a folded card detailing the items included, and the prices of the full-size versions.

Let's dive in!

Harvest Natural Beauty Lengthening Organic Mascara, 0.25 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $18.00

I recently went to brunch with a dear friend and her eyelashes looked incredible. No real added volume or length, just super dark. They were so natural I asked if she had them tinted and she said no, it was just a new mascara. As a natural makeup enthusiast (who also happens to have pale brown/blonde lashes) I wanted her mascara. It happened to be Chanel, so it didn't actually happen. I am a frugal gal! This mascara happens to have the same effect! It doesn't add any length or volume, but separates my lashes beautifully and tints them to a true black. If you like drama in your mascara tube, this is likely not for you, but I am kind of really into it.

Honua Skincare Pa'akai Cleansing Cream, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $12.00 (Buy 2 oz for $24.00)

This is one gentle cleanser. Aside from its pretty pink color, it also boasts a floral scent that I wasn't sure I liked until I rinsed it off and it became much softer. It did a good job of removing my makeup and left my skin feeling very much like velvet.

Derma E Essentials Radiance Toner, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.50 (Buy a full-size 6 fl oz for $15.00)

I like this brand because it has good, natural, and effective formulas that are cost-conscious. This is a watery toner full of glycolic acid and rooibos tea. That acid is great for exfoliating skin cells and the whole formula is alcohol-free, making it perfect for sensitive skin. I like to use toners like this before my nightly serum and cream. Simply soak a cotton pad and wipe your face!

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum, 30 ml - Estimated Value $15.00 (Buy a full-size 60 ml for $30.00)

Oh, Juice Beauty. We have such a complicated relationship. This is mainly because I have dry and (mostly) breakout free skin and I find their formulas are better suited to oily and acne-prone skin. I did give this serum a try, mainly because it has a big dose of aloe, which should help my skin retain some moisture. I found it works best as a spot treatment on my skin, because using it all over did still dry me out a little bit.

Petite Historie 'Envie Desoir' Perfume Sample - Estimated Value $5.27 (Buy a full-size 0.37 fl oz for $65.00)

This is one of my fave indie perfume brands because she scents are always super unexpected and I like the oil formula. When I saw the major notes of this fragrance were rose, iris, and orris, I was all in! I love florals and especially "off-kilter" floral blends, and this was a 8/10 for me. It smells very expensive, floral, and powdery. I do wish it lasted longer and had more projection.

Verdict: This month's Petit Vour box has an estimated value of $52.77  which is a pretty good value for an $18 box. I thought most of the sample sizes were quite generous (especially for this sub) and I loved the full-size mascara. I mostly enjoyed all the items this month, though the Juice Beauty serum is just simply not for my skin type. At least I can use it on the occasional bump! This wasn't an over-the-top exciting box, but I still found new things I will put to good use.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I recently received a confirmation for an order I didn’t set which overdrew my bank account… This is, after I tried and was denied the option to cancel the first (and only) order I placed, which was over a month ago, because I realized it wasn’t going to arrive by the time it was promised / and I wouldn’t be able to use it for what I intentionally purchased it for. Two charges, no satisfaction or customer support guaranteed!

Thanks for your review! Does this box send the same items to everyone or is it more like Ipsy with different variations in what each subscriber receives?

I hope you love it! This is one of the subs that I received even before reviewing for MSA and I always really enjoy it.

Thank you for reviewing this. I just started getting this box a few months ago and I really enjoy it. It’s a breath of fresh air in my sea of mass produced products I get in my other sub boxes. In fact this box had made me consider trying only clean natural subscriptions for awhile. I’m really staring to dig the indie fragrances too after purchasing the clean fragrance box from Sephora that was reviewed last month. It would be great if MSA had a clean sub box category so I can search out some others.

You are welcome Becca! I really enjoy Petit Vour too. Sometimes it feels nice to get quality over quantity. Especially if your stash is out of control like mine is.

It’s been on my wishlist for a while. Maybe next month! 😉

What a great box for me this month! I’m so happy they included a decent sized sample of a Honua Skincare product, and their cleanser no less(!) (I’ll take all of the Honua skincare I can get! Lol), and that mascara sounds nice too. I always love trying new toners (I get REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Toner vibes from this one). I’m fairly certain I’ve tried that Juice Beauty serum before and dug it, and I always love trying new perfumes. I’ve never heard of that perfume brand before, but after reading Megan’s description of it, and knowing she’s quite the fragrance addict I am and liked it, I’m even more intrigued by it. 🙂

Yaaaaaas Luna! This fragrance is one you have to let sit for a few minutes. I am an orris addict so it was a no brainer for me. It also blends really well with other florals so I spritzed my (new, thanks to your rec!) OUAI Melrose Place perfume over it and the oil base of this sample gave it more depth and staying power. Let me know what you think, ok? Enjoy!

Oooh, speaking of orris, I found some Commodity items in the Orris scent at Marshalls! I got the soap for something crazy cheap like $7.99, and I got the large perfume for $39.99 (which I think is well below the $100+ price tag it used to be before they went out of business). I think I also picked up a candle in that scent too for a gift. I loved how they smelled! I think I’m an orris fan now too! 😀

This box is a winner for me. I might use the mascara as a base coat and go conventional as I require a bit more on the work days… I’m loving this box and I am actively using HONUA Olena oil a few times a week. You know Luna, on a side note, I think I will wait and see if Barney fall GWP goes to the warehouse. I really couldn’t wait to repurchase a NARS quad that I use and I swear by Tom Ford brow… so oh well…. it is not like I am lacking in skincare … I

I don’t even know what’ll be in the Barney’s Fall gwp, but I’m already hoping it goes on sale in their warehouse too! 😉
