NewBeauty TestTube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a digital subscription to NewBeauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.

Our July/August 2019 Review

NewBeauty TestTube is one of my favorite subs because they send really unique and new items, many of which I have never even heard of! This booklet is a great reference for each item we received this month. It is full of additional info, interesting facts, and editor commentary.

Now, on to the items!

Skin Research Laboratories neuLASH, 2 ml - Estimated Value $50.00 (buy 6 ml for $150.00)

I would love to have longer, fuller lashes, naturally. I had heard of similar products, but I always worried about my eye color darkening. I couldn't find any info on this product regarding that, so I decided to just give it a try. #YOLO? I didn't notice any eye color changes in the 4 days I have used it, but I also haven't really noticed any difference in my lashes either. It does say that it can take around 30 days to really kick in, so I plan on trying it out for longer to see if I notice any positive changes. The reviews seem positive, so I have my fingers crossed. Does anyone have any longer-term experience with this stuff?

Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen Lotion, 1.7 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $14.99

It is sunscreen season and I have so many different brands from my boxes! Compared to my other favorite, this stuff is downright affordable, and is actually also a COOLA brand product! All the wins! It also absorbs really fast and leaves behind minimal residue. It has a very light, slightly beachy scent that wasn't too fruity or coconutty, which is a plus for me.

Sanitas Skincare Brightening Peel Pads, 50 pads - Full Size! Retail Value $74.00

These totally felt like Oxy pads for grownups, but add in tons of extra AHA power! In addition to salicylic acid, this formula also has lactic and glycolic acids, which help exfoliate skin and promote cell turnover. Acne-prone? These will totally help with those unwanted bumps and also minimize pores (my main concern). They can be extremely drying, so be sure to moisturize after usage and take care in the sun.

Daily Concepts Charcoal Multifunctional Soap Sponge - Retail Value $8.00

I love charcoal because it really deep cleans more pores without feeling drying like clay can. I used this both on my body and face and liked it very much. It is a soap + sponge hybrid bar, and the built-in sponge is both exfoliating and gentle. It has a nice citrus scent too!

Skin Actives Collagen Serum, 1 fl oz - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $18.00

I am also a fan of this product! In addition to the collagen in this formula, it also contains sea kelp extract, something my skin really loves! For how affordable this stuff is, I am really surprised at the other great skin-loving ingredients: hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and green tea too! (You should stash this in your fridge after opening to keep it fresh.) I use this on bare skin before my moisturizer at night. It is clear, fast-absorbing, and super lightweight!

Contour RX Lids By Design Kit in 5 mm + Mini Tweezers - Listed Value $29.95 (Buy a full kit for $37.95)

I have one eyelid that is heavier/droopier than the other and it has always bothered me. It just doesn't look as bright, awake, or youthful as the other. I find it especially noticeable in photos when I am smiling! I have tried filling in my left brow in higher, Botox, everything. This product immediately captured my attention because it was something I haven't yet tried! The tiny little silicone strips come with a set of tweezers for removal, but they were too difficult so I just used my hands. The trick here (that I am not sure I actually mastered) is to apply the sticker at the point where your lid creases. I had to try a few times to get it right where I wanted it, but luckily, these stay super sticky. The ones that came in this are the 5mm "casual" lift level. They range from 3-8 mm.

They really are nearly invisible on the lid and have a natural skinlike sheen to them.

This is my left lid before. Nothing major here, and likely something that no one else on earth would ever notice. But aren't those the things that make us the craziest?

This is my left lid after. There is a marked improvement for sure. But I don't know that this is my solution. My Botox appointment is next week, and I found that lifting the brow itself with two quick injections is just easier, lasts 4-6 months, and is probably cheaper than these strips every day.

Invisibobble Original Trip in Black, pack of 3 - Retail Value $8.00

These hair rings are no strangers to subscription boxes but that isn't a bad thing. I love these little crease-free hair ties and I keep them stashed everywhere: my car, desk, purse, and closeby doorknobs! I haven't bought elastics in almost a whole year. They hold my thick, heavy hair up in a bun or pony with ease.

Invisibobble Waver - Estimated Value $2.33 (Buy a 3 pack for $7.00)

I have tried this product before, and I truly think my hair is too thick/heavy for it. I also don't see myself keeping track of it for very long, even though I certainly manage to with the hair rings above by the same brand. I think I will stick to normal bobby pins.

Chamonix Genucel Plant Stem Cell Therapy, 0.5 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $89.00

This product's website feels a little like an "As Seen on TV" commercial, and it might, in fact, be sold on TV, I am not 100% sure. I am also not really sure it does a whole lot, aside from providing great undereye hydration. If you look at the images on the site, it looks like a miracle product, which is immediately a red flag for me. If I can tell you one thing from testing out so many products, it is that there is no magic cream that will completely transform your skin overnight. Positive changes take time and good ingredients! I admittedly do not have issues with undereye bags or wrinkles (yet!) so maybe this product isn't for me. I personally didn't see any difference between this eye product or others I currently use, other than the price tag.

Verdict: NewBeauty TestTube is always pretty exciting. There are so many different products and I usually haven't heard of most of them. This box has a value of around $294.27, which is great for a $38.90 box. Though I didn't find anything I absolutely loved enough to buy or add to my routine permanently, I have to say that this box was a really fun time. I don't think I would have ever tried the eyelid stickers in any other box and I also think the lash serum (that I hope works over time!) was another unique addition. The peeling pads were excellent, and I also liked the charcoal sponge/soap bar, sunscreen, and collagen spray. The jury is still out on the plant stem cell eye cream, but there were plenty of other items to enjoy. Is this box one of my favorites from this subscription? No. But it was still well rounded, fun to explore, and totally worth the $$.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It appears at sign-up that this box is still available for purchase. However, make sure to email [email protected] before you order to confirm which box will be your first shipment.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

The eyelash serum ingredient that changes eye color is called “bimatoprost ophalmic solution” so we’re safe 🙂 It seems relatively uncommon in lash enhancing formulas. Keep an eye out for (and avoid!) “Latisse”.

Also this eyelid tape made me angry laugh? As an asian I’ve seen eyelid tape marketed for ages – you can buy a kit at a daiso, or online for a dollar! Because we have monolids, they help create the crease we’re naturally without. What’s with all these beauty trends just taking things from asian beauty and acting like it was just invented?

Can you tell me when the September spoilers might be out?
Can anyone tell me if the spoilers come out before you are charged for the box. Thank you

Reply ButtonReply

Linda

They typically come out before you’re charge. They should be coming out any day now.. as people would usually be charged this month for next month’s box.

Annette

Mine has just finally shipped!!! Has anyone gotten this yet??

Reply ButtonReply

Claire

Yes, on Saturday, the one that has been doing the rounds of different USPS centers since June 27th. New Beauty did send another one a couple of days ago, so if it arrives that will be two boxes! I think CS addresses all issues promptly and have never been disappointed with them. Oh, and I did send a missing package report to USPS, so maybe that’s why it got to me in the end.

Reply ButtonReply

Claire

Since my box was shipped on June 27th and was going back and forth between different PO centers they shipped out another one yesterday. Meanwhile I filed a missing mail piece report to USPS and suddenly my first box is arriving today! I am now going to get two boxes!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Danielle

Reading the FAQ’s on their site, I think the answer is probably no- – but does anyone know if they ship to Alaska?

Reply ButtonReply

Claire

I called them and was told it shipped on 28th June. I tracked it and it has been doing the rounds of different post offices and cities. They are sending another box, and the other one will probably get returned to them. I can’t imagine the state of these products in this heat!

Reply ButtonReply

Claire

I haven’t yet received my box and it has been some time since payment was taken.

Reply ButtonReply

Linda

I’m in the same situation. Luckily I called to see what was going on. Seems like it didn’t send for some reason and so they’re sending it now. Definitely give them a call if you have not received your tracking number.

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

I haven’t either. May have to call customer service I paid a month ago.

Reply ButtonReply

LR

I want this, but w the shipping and tax it adds up to $42.88. ugh.

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy

Hey at least the retail value, which from what I’ve noticed is usually over $200, really makes up for that. You end up getting 5x what you paid for

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I always get bummed out with shipping too. This is bi-monthly, which helps because it averages out to like $20/month

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I need lash serum advice. Please help! It says to apply at the base of the lashes. Does that mean as close to the lashes as possible (like where you’d apply liquid liner)? Or on the lashes themselves?

I feel like a beauty dunce, lol 😂

Reply ButtonReply

ChristinstinaT

Usually these lash enhancers work by strengthening the roots so the lashes you have can hang on longer as they grow. (Someone correct me if I’m describing the mode of action incorrectly!)

So apply with a light hand at the lash line.

Reply ButtonReply

Sharon

It means apply like liquid liner. As close to the lashes as possible.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

Thanks for the info!

Alison

Great review. I went straight over to the Lids by Design to get the Discovery Kit. Am super excited to receive them. Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Thanks Alison! Glad it was helpful 🙂

Sharon

Eyelash serums work and NeuLASH is vey popular. The thing I you hav to be consistent and use them several weeks to see your results. If you want to see someone that uses NeuLASH watch Mel Thompson on YouTube. This is what she uses and she has gorgeous eyelashes.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I will have to check that out Sharon! Thanks 🙂

Great review! Another box added to my long list of “wants”.

Reply ButtonReply

Jean

Good review. I skipped this box and I’m glad I did. Some of the products sound interesting but nothing really stands out. I’ve heard good things about Neulash but I know from experience that Rodan + Fields LashBoost WORKS. It does take about a month to really see the growth but, I swear, my lashes got so long they bang into the lenses of my sunglasses. It is expensive, but I was amazed at the results.

Lizc

Looks like a great box. If I ever get caught up on my backlog of product, I will subscribe. Maybe in 2021 I’ll be caught up………..

Reply ButtonReply

Paula

OMG…I soooo can relate to this. I have AT LEAST two years worth of skincare, hair care, and bath products!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Annette

Still waiting for my box/tube to ship 😞

Lauren Beskitt

I noticed a difference with the eyelash serum after 2 days. Each day I use it, they seem to get longer! The charcoal sponge worked great as an exfoliater for my legs. I’ve used everything but the eyelid lifters and pony tail holders. Great box!!

Reply ButtonReply

Mim

I have one hooded eye and one non-hooded and I’m sure it’s noticeable but to me it is one of the most glaring things ever. I wish I were swapping so I could try and get these. Might be time to pay retail 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

My one hood is definitely hoodier than the other. I might need an eye job one day. 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

That is how I feel too Mim. I am sure no one else sees it, but I can’t NOT see it!

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

You can buy less expensive ones that work just as well. I love them (I have one droopy eyelid), but just haven’t figured out how to use them with eyeshadow.

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

I just bought some (different brand) on Amazon for super cheap and they work just as well. Just search for eyelid tape and make sure to get single sided. I love them, I have one droopy side too, but how to use with eyeshadow is still a mystery to me.

Reply ButtonReply

RaeRae32

Do you happen to have the name of the brand you bought from on Amazon or the actual link? I’ve been really wanting to get some of these eye lifters, but all the ones I found on Amazon had really bad reviews. I’d really appreciate it! Thanks

Nichole

I really liked those lid things. It took a second repositioning but once I got it right in the crease, it stayed put under make up for about 10 hours. I forgot they were there til I rubbed my eye. I saw a real difference. I will definitely use them for special days and repurchase.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy

Did you put the strip on before makeup and primer and then apply primer and shadow on top? Does makeup adhere to the strip?

Reply ButtonReply

Dot

No FOMO here , hope September tube is better I really would like to rejoin, TT used to be one of my favorites !

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

I have droopy eyelids due to genetics and have never read that botox helps with this. My dermatologist basically told me only surgery would correct it. I am intrigued for sure.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Becca! What I tried that helped was a Botox “brow lift” but only on one eye. It was much less expensive than I feared!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Count me as another one with a droopy “lazy” eye. Nobody notices it but me. And of course it has to the be the same eye where my lashes just don’t want to curl and want to stick straight out. To me, my other eye is wide open and the lashes always curl up beautifully… since I’m a scaredy-cat of eye lash curlers I always have to push up my lashes on my lazy eye when the mascara is still tacky to get any curl. They stay for a while, but always tend to fall throughout the day so one eye looks va-va-va-voom! and the other one can sometimes look like I have no mascara on whatsoever. lol! I’m cool with it though, because I know I’m the only who notices. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I am glad I am not alone! I also suffer from totally different lash curling issues. And I pinched myself once really bad with a curler so I don’t reach for them often either.

Reply ButtonReply

Dot

Eyelash curler are my Besties lol, I usually put my mascara on first and then when it’s dry curl my lashes with the curled makes a huge difference 🙂 takes a little practice , but I love the way it gives my lashes a little “umph” 😁👍

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I’ve always wondered when you were supposed to use an eyelash curler. I always thought it was after mascara (which makes sense to me), but I’ve heard it’s before. I guess personal preference? I still remember that’s how I got busted going through my babysitter’s makeup when I was a kid. I put on some of her mascara then used her eyelash curler, then when she saw her curler was all gunky… busted!
I definitely give you props on being able to use one successfully, because I know I’m a lost cause with them. lol

Cagey

Ha! Glad to hear I’m not the only one with a fear of eyelash curlers! Saw a friend’s mom get them stuck on her eyelashes and was scarred for life!!! 😆

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Oh my gosh, I always felt like I was the only one!!! 😀 There are many reasons why I feel I can’t use them, but the biggest one is that I’m so scared of pulling my lashes out! I know that’s extreme, but with my lack of abilities and coordination, I just know that’s exactly what I’d do. lol! I tried it once before, with guidance from a “pro” and it was not a fun experience for me. After doing one eye, I was like, “ya, no, I’m good” lol

Anna

Actually Sephora doesn’t have it, I was about to order a backup and had to find a different one. Check out the Japonesque Heated Mini Eyelash Curler. It’s the same type.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Thanks! If I ever get to the point where my stick straight lashes on that one eye start to bother me, I’ll definitely consider that comb/brush eyelash curler. 🙂 Since I’m such a baby when it comes to anything getting near or in my eyes (plus being so mis-coordinated, I know I’d end up pulling some lashes out) I already know I wouldn’t enjoy using a conventional curler. But now that I think about it, I’m shocked I’m as much of a mascara addict as I am! lol!

Anna

Sephora has a lash curler that’s heated (battery) and it’s more like a comb/brush and it works great.

I think we all have fraternal twins as eyelids.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer Davis

Waiting to give this box a try but this one wasn’t it

Reply ButtonReply

Charlotte

I ALSO have one eyelid that is slightly droopier than the other (which I find similarly annoying), and it never occurred to me to look into botox. I can’t afford it right now, but future-me is stoked to have a solution.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Charlotte! I hope this works for you. What I tried was a Botox “brow lift” but only on one eye. It basically lifted my eyebrow up a smidge which raised the lid. It was maybe 2 small injections into my eyebrow and was really affordable, somewhere around like $75? Hope this is a solution that works for you too!

Reply ButtonReply

ELaine

Yeah it wasn’t a great box IMO. Those lid things to me are so weird.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

Hope an update is posted if you find out anything on the eyelash serum! I’m a little afraid to try it

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I will update if anything changes! <3
