Ecocentric Mom May 2019 Review

This month it looks like they changed up their packaging. I'm not sure if this is a permanent change or not, but perhaps it's a move toward more eco-friendly packaging? Each box includes a card with a link to this page where we can filter by age to see the products from our box. This is great to check out if you are considering this subscription as you can see what items you might receive in another age group.

We also received this card with a special offer for 20% off this double-ended pacifier keeper. One end holds several clean pacifiers while the other holds the dirty ones. This sounds like a great idea, but the large size doesn't appeal to me. I prefer the smaller soft pouches that I can clip to the outside of the diaper bag to store spare clean ones and the dirty ones get thrown in my bag until I can sanitize them.

Bisou Natural Air Purifier in Eden - Retail Value $24 (currently on sale for $19.90)

I had to look this item up because I had no clue what it was when I first saw it. This is actually an air freshener made from natural-activated Moso bamboo charcoal. You can place this little bag anywhere and it will eliminate odors and purify the air. It is non-toxic, fragrance and chemical-free, and it can last for up to 2 years. It features a small ring in the corner so that you can hang it up if you need to. It has some great reviews and I placed it in the nursery near the diaper pail with high hopes it will help eliminate that lovely odor for us! This is also an eco-friendly choice since for every order sold they will plant a tree!

Botanical Therapy Moisture Therapy Sample Size - Retail Value $4.00

The next item we received is this sample size bottle of baby lotion along with a coupon code for 20% off their site. The packaging is really pretty and the formula is fine, but I didn't feel like this lotion was anything particularly special. It is fragrance-free, made with natural ingredients, and contains hydrogen water and ceramide complex to help restore lipids and prevent dryness. This lotion is designed for sensitive skin and while my kids don't seem to have reactions to skincare products, my son does get eczema patches every so often, so I am hoping this will help with that since it also contains ingredients that help calm flare-ups!

Prince & Spring Jackpot Sweet & Salty Popcorn - Buy 24 for $9.99

I love kettle corn so this sweet & salty popcorn was a welcome treat! This bag had a decent amount of popcorn inside and was just flavorful enough without being too sweet or salty. I'd definitely pick this up as a snack sometime!

Ubbi Connect 'n Build Bath Toys - Retail Value $7.99 (also available here)

I've been on a mission to get rid of all the bath toys that can collect water inside that turns to mold, so these came at the perfect time to distract the kids from wondering where all their favorite bath toys went! This fun, bright, plastic set of shapes with smiley faces on them are PVC, BPA, and phthalate-free as well as dishwasher safe. They snap together with a nice loud click, although not too easily, but you can connect them and build with them and they will even float. The kids think they are neat and I appreciate that there are no holes that will fill up with water!

Green Sprouts Sprout Ware Snack Cups - Retail Value $5.00

My fourteen-month-old has been enjoying putting lids on things lately so even though these are snack cups, they also provided him with a lot of entertainment, especially since they also stack! These snack cups are a great size and they even feature lines for measuring on the inside of the cups holding a total of 4.5 oz. All of the lids actually screw into place ensuring a nice tight seal, too. They are PVC, BPA, and melamine-free made from plant-based natural materials and food-based dyes. These will be great for bringing snacks on the go or storing leftover food for the kids, and they are even dishwasher-safe which means clean up will be easy!

Green Sprouts Snip 'n Feed Scissors - Retail Value $6.00

This last item is also from Green Sprouts and it is completely unique to me! I think in theory it is a great idea, but I haven't found a great use for it yet! The idea is that you use the stainless steel scissor arms to cut up foods, such as noodles or vegetables into smaller pieces, or you can use the little masher piece at the end to mash foods for baby. I tried using the scissors to cut a small nectarine, but I couldn't get it to cut through the peel, so I am thinking what these will end up being great for cutting noodles, which is always a frustrating task, although using a pizza cutter definitely helps! As for the masher, I tried to mash up a piece of nectarine (without peel) and even though I mashed it several times, I had trouble getting it to cut through it all the way. I can't completely discount this product yet, as I'm sure I will find a great use for it through trial and error!

Verdict: This month's Ecocentric Mom box included some nice items that seemed to fit perfectly into the eco-friendly category! I liked everything I tried from the Green Sprouts brand so I am excited to have the useful set of snack cups, and I am hopeful that the scissors will work out, too. The air purifier bag is a unique and appropriate choice for this particular box and I think the design is cute and convenient since it can be placed pretty much anywhere.  The total retail value of our items is $47.41, which isn't too bad for a $32.99 + free shipping box.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
