May 2019: Can't Clutch This Review

Our clutch arrived in this pink dust bag which is just big enough to fit our new clutch inside. This will be nice for travel when you want to have a few options with you!

Banana Clutch - Estimated Value $29.99 (value based on their clutch retail values)

All I can think (and sing) every time I look at this month's design is "This clutch is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!"

This month's clutch measures 7"x 10" and it is made of this pretty blue pleather and features embroidered yellow bananas all over the front with gold hardware. I have to admit, this is NOT my style at all, but I find myself really liking this month's clutch for some reason. Maybe it's the colors or the way it makes me sing (see above), but I think this is a much more unique design than last month and I can definitely appreciate that. I could see myself using this as a fun clutch at the beach this summer or using it as a way to organize my diaper bag. Once again, it does have those loops on the outside to attach a wrist or shoulder strap to it and I think they stand out somewhat but aren't as noticeable since the gold matches the yellow in the bananas. Also this month I can't fault them for placing them on the outside since this clutch features a zippered top that wouldn't allow for hidden loops.

The gold zipper at the top opens up to reveal a yellow interior which goes nicely with the bananas on the outside. There is one small zippered pocket on the inside.

This is the "flair" designed to go along with this month's clutch, but unfortunately, they are not included in your subscription. You have the option to add flair and other accessories to your box each month with no additional shipping charge. It looks like a shoulder strap costs $9.99 while the keychains cost $8.99 each.

Here is the clutch in hand to give you a better sense of scale. I actually really love the blue color and I like that one side is just solid.

The Verdict: This month's clutch from Can't Clutch This is cute, but definitely a very taste specific. I could see this subscription being really fun at the annual subscription price point of $19.99 per month, but at $27.99 per month, I just don't think the value is there when they don't include the strap or any flair to go along with it. These clutches do sell out and there is a waitlist so I guess you are definitely paying for the perk of a guaranteed bag, but I'm not sure that's worth the $2 savings you get for subscribing (based on their clutch retail values of $29.99). If you do choose an annual subscription, the savings are pretty significant and you are able to skip a clutch if you happen to dislike the design for the month which is nice.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? There is currently a waitlist, but as of publication, this clutch is still available! Order before the 16th at 9:59 am ET to receive next month's clutch! From Studio DIY:

Clutches ship to subscribers around the 20th of every month. Subscribers are charged on the 20th of every month.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $27.99/ month + free shipping and we received one clutch with a retail value of $29.99 which is a savings of $2 with a subscription.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

AH

How is this sub selling out and having a wait list?! Even if they only made 100 a month, I am would still kinda be in shock that it is selling out.
I don’t like cheap bags either. I prefer a designer solid leather bag in colors like black, brown/taupe, blue. I’m a poor girl now so these have to usually be a gift and I make these bags last years. Hence the reason for them to be quality and not overly trendy.
I could understand if it was selling out at $10 or even maybe $15 a month. At the very most, $20 to include ALL of the flair. Smh I need to come up with a way for ppl to send me their money because apparently ppl have more money than they know what to do with. Kudos to them for figuring out something that ppl will spend a high mark up for.

You want people to send you the money they’ve worked hard for, so you can spend it on the things you’re shaming them for spending it on? I’m so confused.

I don’t believe the “sold out” notes on the website for a minute. These clutches simply HAVE NOT BEEN MANUFACTURED IN THE FIRST PLACE, except for a few prototypes for taking the photograph for the website. I bet she only manufactures them on demand, like for this insanely priced monthly sub.

Whenever the Sock Monkey artwork is licensed for quilting cotton, one of the supporting fabrics is always bananas on blue. That’s what this quilter thought immediately.

Clutch your ipsy bag for less, ladies!

Wow. Price point is $10-$15 too high!

That seems ridiculous that they charge ten bucks for a strap that they have designed to go with the clutch. They may as well add that amount to the sub and give you the strap…or they should offer a neutral color strap to go with all the clutches to buy one time. Anyway, the bananas are cute!

Agreed. While I like this unique design, both the bananas and the background color, that price is just insane. I’d never buy a purse without some sort of strap or handle as it would be too easy to drop, set down and forget about it and lose it, or even have it easily grabbed from you by a thief (not that I’ve personally ever encountered a purse snatcher but still 😁). So $38 for the most basic style of purse imaginable, although with a not-so-basic design of course, with a plain thin strap and nothing but a generic little zipper pull? Honestly I just can’t wrap my mind around that. I checked out their website and the prices, considering what your getting, like a “wallet” that’s just a simple 1 compartment little pouch for $14.99, are just crazy to me. You could easily get a comparable or even cuter version of their “wallet” at the dollar store. Same thing for the zipper pulls. The mark up on their stuff must be incredible. Especially if they’re manufacturing overseas or buying from an overseas supplier. But hey, props to them because if people are willing to pay their ridiculous prices you can’t blame them for taking advantage of that.

Those aren’t keychains. They are zipper pulls!

Dani

I think you’re right but to be fair to Brandi, even their own website calls them keychains. Weird.
