Daily Concepts Mister Afterspa Exfoliating Scrubber, Full-size! Retail Value $8
This exfoliating scrub packs a punch - I wouldn’t use this on sensitive skin, but it is awesome on my heels, elbows, and knees. I imagine that this wouldn’t feel as abrasive if you had tougher skin, and I like the strap on the band that helps my hand to hold this.
hims DHT Blocker Shampoo, 2 oz – Estimated Value $2.75 (buy the full-size version for $11)
I am not exactly sure what DHT is, but apparently, it can help lead to hair loss. This shampoo is designed to block DHT formation, and I am a big fan of the peppermint and tea tree scent. I wouldn't use this every time I shampoo because it was a little drying for my hair, but I would definitely reach for it again.
FOREO LUNA™ play in Midnight – Retail Value $39
I love using this cleansing device because the silicone is naturally anti-bacterial, and the sonic vibrations gently exfoliate without being abrasive. The small size of this one means that it can easily be tossed in a gym bag or overnight bag, and it has enough power for 100 full cleansing routines. The only downside to this is that it is not rechargeable, so it can feel a tad wasteful (though I have had luck using ones with dead batteries to help me clean my makeup brushes). If you need a FOREO (or want to have a cool black one), you basically get it at a few dollars discount in this kit and everything else for free.
Kiehl’s Age Defender Dual-Action Exfoliating Cleanser, 1 oz – Estimated Value $6 (buy the 2.5 oz version for $15)
I love Kiehl’s, so I wasn’t surprised to find that I really enjoyed this cleanser. It can actually be left on as a mask if you prefer, and while this does exfoliate, I didn’t find it to be too abrasive. This does have alcohol denat on the ingredients list, which I am not a fan of, but above it on the list are kaolin and glycerin, which makes me feel a bit better about using it.
Harry's Face Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 15, 1.7 oz – Retail Value $8
While I appreciate the idea of including a moisturizer with SPF, I find the SPF 15 to be a bit wimpy- especially when you consider the fact that the SPF is diluted by the moisturizer (something to consider, unless you’re applying more to make up for that, but most people don’t). I am happy that the SPF comes from zinc oxide, and this is also made with shea butter, coconut oil, and peppermint oil. I am learning that a lot of guy products have peppermint in them, and I am kind of jealous if we are being honest.
The Verdict: I thought this kit was a fun assortment of products. There isn't really anything better than cooling off from the summer heat with peppermint, and the exfoliating products can help get off the sweat and sunscreen. I do think this needs another small item, though. Currently, the value of these items adds up to $63.75, and Birchbox promised a total value of $77.
