SinglesSwag May 2019 Review
This conversational book takes us through Anna Faris’ childhood through adulthood with wit and humor. The foreward is by her ex-husband Chris Pratt which I thought was poorly done and awkward. Anna’s hardcover book was in the November 2017 PopSugar Must Have Box. When the spoilers were released, readers commented on the disappointment in this selection since it’s been out for over a year and was in another subscription box. This sub seems to either piggy-back on book selections from past subscription boxes or sends older book releases. It would be a change of pace to select an up and coming book release for their subscribers.
A hilarious, honest memoir–combined with just the right amount of relationship advice–from the popular actress and host of the hit podcast Anna Faris is Unqualified.
Anna Faris has advice for you. And it’s great advice, because she’s been through it all, and she wants to tell you what she’s learned.
After surviving an awkward childhood (when she bribed the fastest boy in the third grade with ice cream), navigating dating and marriage in Hollywood, and building a podcast around romantic advice, Anna has plenty of lessons to share: Advocate for yourself. Know that there are wonderful people out there and that a great relationship is possible. And, finally, don’t date magicians.
Her comic memoir, Unqualified, shares Anna’s candid, sympathetic, and entertaining stories of love lost and won. Part memoir–including stories about being “the short girl” in elementary school, finding and keeping female friends, and dealing with the pressures of the entertainment industry and parenthood–part humorous, unflinching advice from her hit podcast, Anna Faris Is Unqualified, the book will reveal Anna’s unique take on how to master the bizarre, chaotic, and ultimately rewarding world of love.
Hilarious, honest, and useful, Unqualified is the book Anna’s fans have been waiting for.
So Susan Cosmetics Halo on High Powder-Cream Luminizer, Full Size – Retail Value $25.00
This powder to cream luminizer in the shade candles & kisses is described as a sunlight shimmer. It has a nice texture and finish and will be perfect for the summer months. Swatched below.
From So Susan Cosmetics:
A soft-focus, luminous powder and cream hybrid highlighter with a light-infusing, radiant finish that transfers beautifully and effortlessly onto skin. Experience its unique velvety texture powered by skin-awakening Passionflower Extract and Copper Peptides to help lock moisture and reduce the appearance of skin fatigue.
Usage: Use your ring finger and glide the product onto cheekbones, down the nose, your Cupid’s bow and along the brow bone. Use your Angled Brush to blend the formula and amplify its incandescent effect.
LaRitzy Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick, Full Size – Retail Value $20.00
This long-lasting liquid lipstick in the shade veto is a brown nude with a peachy pink undertone. The matte liquid lipstick went on creamy and was long-lasting. This lipstick didn’t budge from my lips, but unfortunately, the shade is not a good match. Swatched below.
Here are the swatches of the liquid lipstick on top and the luminizer on the bottom.
This 7/8” headband with elastic adjustable strap is non-slip and fits over my head/braids. I don’t wear headbands so I will pass on to a friend. Attached to the headband is a card with a code for 40% of your next purchase.
Manna Kadar Sea Minerals Champagne Charcoal Scrub, 7.40 oz – Estimated Value $9.87 (Buy an 18 oz jar for $24.00)
This scrub is awesome and I was happy to receive more since I used the 18.34 oz jar I received in my FabFitFun Spring Box. This size is not on their website and the 18 oz jar is sold out. According to their customer service, the size in this month’s box is sample size. This scrub is gritty, has a pleasant smell and made my skin so smooth. I will have to use this scrub sparingly to make it last longer than the previous jar I received. Manna Kadar is a subscription box staple and while I have gotten tired of seeing this brand, this scrub is a huge hit for me and not at all disappointed to see this brand again.
Melinda Maria Safety Pin Pendant Necklace-Silver White Pave – Retail Value $48.00 (currently sold out)
When I first saw the spoilers for this item I wasn’t impressed, but in person, it grew on me. When I asked my boyfriend for his opinion, he liked it, so this is a win. The necklace is sterling silver-plated with a 13.5” inch chain with 2” inch extender. The pendant is white pave on the top of the safety pin but on the photo on their website the white pave is on the bottom circular part of the safety pin and my necklace doesn’t have that detail just a minor thing I noticed and wanted to share. The necklace came in a grey velvet pouch with a card with the brand’s name on one side and a cool quote, seen in the photo above on the other side:
Note to self: You are loved, you are safe, you are amazing.
I have a big sweet tooth and this cookie satisfied my craving. The large cookie was delicious and had the flavor of shortbread cookies I have eaten before. The sugar coated frosting made the cookie even better. The cookie is peanut free but contains wheat, egg, and milk for those with allergies or dietary restrictions.
Verdict: The May SinglesSwag box delivered an enjoyable curation despite the fact that two items were included in other subscription boxes. There wasn’t an info card this month and I’m not sure if it was a mistake or if they are doing away with info cards. Let me know in the comments if your info card was missing from your May box. The champagne charcoal scrub, cookie, and necklace are my favorite items from this box. SinglesSwag gives out monthly spoilers on their boxes, so be sure to sign-up for notifications!
This month’s box has an estimated retail value of $133.86 (not including the cookie).
