Knowledge Box is a monthly women's subscription box inspired by a female expert to empower other women by teaching them something new in a fun and feminine way. For $36.99/month + free shipping you will receive a box based on a theme along with information and the materials necessary to learn the theme. From Knowledge Box:

Our aim is to redefine the concept of “beauty” and encourage women to see their value and worth through their intellect rather than their physical appearance.

Knowledge Box also donates $1 from every box sold to She's the First, a non-profit group that focuses on fighting gender inequality in education globally. I always love a box that supports a great cause like this one!

Knowledge Box "Culinary Herb Garden" May 2019 Review

Inside our beautiful box was this nice full-color booklet highlighting our theme in addition to providing a list of what comes in our box. This month's theme is "Culinary Herb Garden" and it is perfectly timed for spring! It looks like they sent along everything we need to start our own garden.

This booklet explained a bit about what to do with our items and even included some recipes in the back for using our new herbs and other box items. I thought this was a nice touch and that Ceviche recipe is calling my name!

Marble Mortar and Pestle

There is no branding on this mortar and pestle, but it is a beautiful white marble set with a nice heft to it. This mortar and pestle set will look great in most kitchens thanks to the simple design. I have one that I frequently use, but it is a bit bulkier and heavier, so this one with a lower profile will be a perfect replacement. I'm excited to test it out with the recipes that they provided!

Glee Peppermint Gum - Buy a case of 12 for $11.95

This next item feels a bit random in the box, but since peppermint is a culinary herb, it still works!  This natural gum comes in an eco-friendly biodegradable box and contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners. It tastes a little waxier than most, but I liked it because the flavor was mild and not too sugary sweet like some gums can be.

Digz Leather Palm Gardening Gloves - Retail Value $3.98

These gloves are so cute! I actually needed a new pair of gardening gloves and these colors are great for a spring design. They feature a leather palm and a soft knit cuff and will be great to use for our culinary garden.

Non-GMO Organic Seed Packs in Thyme, Cilantro, Basil, and Parsley

We received four different seed packets containing non-GMO, certified organic herb seeds. I love that they have a fun "Did you know?" on each packet. These are all useful herbs in my opinion and ones that I use quite frequently in cooking.

Biodegradable Pots

To plant our seeds in we received these four biodegradable pots made from natural peat.

Expanding Soil Discs

Our soil came in the form of these compressed potting mix disks. They expand up to 15 times their volume in water.

Plant Markers

These plant markers are made from bamboo and I love the natural look to mark our plants with! Now let's get planting!

I am actually a terrible gardener and am better at killing plants than I am at growing them. This means that my husband usually handles our garden each year, but I'm excited that I might have my own herbs to contribute to it this year if all goes well!

The first step was to find somewhere to grow our plants. Fortunately, our pretty box makes the perfect place once the top is cut off. I had an old takeout container that I placed in the bottom and since it was a bit small, I was only able to fit three of the pots inside. I just opted to not plant the thyme since it's the herb I use the least of the four.

Next, I placed our soil pods in a bowl and I poured warm water over them and watched them magically expand. The kids were eager to help! My daughter had a little bean plant that she had received so I found a little room for it and decided to add it to our box, and then we filled up our pots with the soil.

I wrote the names of our herbs on our bamboo markers and inserted them each into different pots.

Then it was simply a matter of adding a few seeds to each pot. They recommended using at least five seeds, so I went for an even six in each pot. There were plenty of seeds in each packet though, so we could have easily added more, or even planted more of each herb somewhere else if we wanted to.

Once those were planted, I covered them with plastic wrap and stored them on top of the fridge and fortunately, it still looked nice thanks to our pretty box! They recommended storing them there since the heat from the refrigerator will help them grow. They need sunlight each day, so I will have to remember to take them down and place them in the light. They give instructions for caring for them, and even gave instructions for harvesting them when it comes time!

Verdict: This was my first time receiving Knowledge Box and I really thought it was a beautiful box overall, starting with the box design itself. I love their goal of helping women learn new things and reminding them that their worth is not in their looks. Such an important message for any woman and I love that they also give back through their donation to She's the First! I enjoy learning new things and doing them myself, so this box really appealed to me and I was pretty pleased with my first experience. I love that they included everything needed to plant our own culinary garden and also that they provided the mortar and pestle along with some yummy recipes to go with it. This box costs $36.99/month + free shipping, and I always find it hard to determine whether a box holds that value from just one box, but I love the idea of this box and I thought the quality of the items was great, so I was happy!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

This is way overpriced. The items don’t even make up the price of the box.

I wish they gave theme spoilers in advance. I’d never garden but I bet some months I’d love.

They do! The usually post the spoilers on their blog or on Instagram a couple weeks before the end of the month. They haven’t done June yet but said on Instagram they would be revealing it soon.

this looks like a great subscription. Not sure about supporting “all things Texas”, but Austin is a great place. I think I’ll be subscribing to this soon!

My husband and some of our friends are from Texas, and we support Texas-based companies. As in…it’s from Texas, so it must be good!

Thanks for the update, Brandi! I’m not sure how they knew about the review, but they contacted me about the May box already. What great customer service!
